2014-2015 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My tour guide talked about how she had friends who got accepted after interviewing in early March last year. I don't think they are finished handing out acceptances yet. The Asst Dean also told us that after our files go to committee, she will call those accepted. It really doesn't sound like we were interviewing purely for the waitlist.

At your guys' interviews, did the assistant dean meet with each applicant individually?

Thank you!! Hahah I needed that reassurance

We met in groups of 2. It probably just depended on how many applicants were there that day/the timing of interviews.

Ah gotcha. Did she also meet with the entire group and have everyone share something about themselves? I learned some pretty neat things about my fellow applicants, so that was one of my favorite parts about the day.

We did that when the two of us met with her.

My Pre-Health advisor said that things moved slightly slower for Loyola this year due to high admissions staff turnover. I don't know how she would know that though.
That's what they told me when I called in January.

Was the admissions committee meeting yesterday? I thought I wrote down that it was on February 6th but perhaps they changed it as it looks like nobody got any calls/notifications last night.

It seems like the past 3 or 4 committee meetings have landed on a Monday. The next one is on Feb 23, which is also a Monday. Maybe you will hear back in 2 nights!

I sure hope so! The wait is killing me, as this was my first choice.

This might have been talked about in the past, but is there a specific place where I can get more information about the school's curriculum? I tried looking on their webiste, but perhaps I'm not clicking on the right links

Have you interviewed? I have a sheet that lays out the curriculum (all 4 years) in a block-by-block schedule that is a print-off from interview day (I think, it may also have come in the acceptance package folder but I have just mixed all the materials at this point). If you can't find it, let me know. I can send you a picture of it if you send me a PM.

I haven't interviewed yet, I'm interviewing in a few weeks! I've had interviews where they have asked what I liked most about the school's curriculum. I read a comment awhile back about the Loyola's curriculum, but I can't seem to find that particular post again. I'd like to know a little more just so I'm not ill-informed. I'll PM you!

FYI- I got an email from the admissions office saying they're reviewing applications tonight, and I might hear back by tomorrow. I interviewed 1/14. Fingers crossed for everyone!

I'm crossing my fingers for you! Good luck!! Did they send that email to everyone? I interviewed 2 weeks after you so I'm guessing there's no chance my application will be reviewed tonight.

does submitting an pre-II update automatically trigger a review of your file? i submitted one and a LoR but is it possible that they wouldn't look at it?

I do remember one of my interviewers in Jan saying the next committee meeting was today, the 9th. So hopefully good news is on its way for you!

No, I just paranoid-ally emailed the admissions office to ask when id find out 🙂

Does the portal's status change after the committee makes a final post-interview decision?

To some of the above questions and recent IIs, I interviewed a few weeks ago and the new dean of admission told us they are way behind this year d/t staff turnover, and we had just as good a chance of acceptance as anyone. good luck!

ACCEPTED!!!!
LizzyM of ~67, interviewed 1/14, got a call from one of my interviewers at 6:30.

Edit: Was also called by the new Dean of Admissions around 7:45. She did mention she tried to call everyone she could with the news. She also said the acceptances will be mailed out later this week by snail mail.

Just accepted! Got the call on the train. I was really surprised the call didn't get dropped- there's usually no cell service in the subway. Interviewed 01/17.

I figured since it was so late in the day I wouldn't be getting an acceptance. So thrilled to have a second offer! Good luck to anyone else waiting to hear, and congrats to the above posters who got their calls tonight!

For all the people asking about when they will hear, for my interview date they were very clear with us that if we were accepted, we would be called today, 02/09. They stated that if we didn't get a call that day, we could expect a waitlist or rejection letter via snail mail.

Portal doesn't seem to have changed yet.

Hello! I also got accepted today! (~5:30 PM PST) I missed the call while getting some coffee, but the Asst. Dean left a wonderful voicemail. I also received a call about an hour later from one of my interviewers.

I am so thrilled by this offer, after having had to reapply and wait through what seemed like an eternity.

I interviewed 1/07, but when we spoke to the dean towards the end of our interview day, we were told that the Admissions Committee would convene on 2/23.

congrats to all the acceptances!!
anyone know how full the class is already?

great..now i really want an II from here haha

Not sure on how full the class is but it seems like that late interviewees are not interviewing for a WL spot. Our tour guide on Saturday told us that she interviewed latest date possible (early march) and a lot of her interview group got in!

Congrats on all the acceptances everyone!

Hmm, so that means it is possible for the AdCom meeting for an interview day to be earlier than expected? Interesting...

Not that full. When I interviewed in January they were behind schedule. And if it's telling, the Facebook group has only ~50 actual new students. So I'd imagine there's plenty of room left!

Anyone still getting IIs? I'm feeling so impatient and hopeless right now .

Can any current med student tell me why you chose Loyola? Are there any unique aspects of the curriculum or certain opportunities that you don't think you could get elsewhere? Current applicants who will be attending in the fall are welcomed to answer too! I haven't been accepted yet (interviewing in a couple weeks), but Loyola's high up on my list based on what I've heard from friends and what I've read on here. I'm looking through some of the financial costs though, and I'm trying to justify paying $50k+ instead of ~$30k at a state school.

Hey Bubbles, so I'm gonna firstly say that you gotta do what's best for you in the long run. Money is definitely a big deal so if that's a deal-breaker, no one will hold it against you.
I'd say our curriculum is pretty traditional so I can't say it's better or worse than any other school's. But! I'd say loyola gives you a supportive family environment. If you need help, walk into an instructor's office. If you fail a test, you're an email away from getting on the right track. Wanna shadow someone in a specific specialty but don't know how? Shout out to your advisors and they'll hook you up.
I surely hope that lots of other schools care about their students like Loyola does, but I have been told by colleagues at a bigger state school there's just not enough administration for the number of students and they end up feeling like a number.
Alas, my experience is limited and I can only comment on that limited experience.
Good luck!

Hi @Mmedran, may I PM you a question about Loyola?

Thank you! I've heard similar things about large state schools (which is my number one concern), and I've heard nothing but great things about Loyola and the environment they provide for their students. If I get accepted, I will definitely have to make a difficult decision! Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Any recent interviewees willing to say how full they've said they are, and if they're still sending out II's? Thanks a lot!

Spoke with adcom today. They are still sending out invites through the end of the month. It's true they were behind from staff issues, but are almost caught up.
