2014-2015 Mercer University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone have any general advice for interviews at Mercer? This will be my first MD interview and I don't really know what to expect other than, "Why do you want to be a doctor?" or "Why do you think Mercer is the right school for you?"

Thanks in advance.

One thing I think is to be able to talk about any experiences you've had in the past that could have prepared you for the problem based learning format. Both of my interviewers asked about that. Also I got asked a couple times about living/working in rural areas.

Other than that, the questions were pretty general. The interviews are open file but they are kinda encouraged not to look at the files before the interviews, to avoid bias I guess. So I did get asked about my GPA, MCAT scores and stuff like that.

Good luck in your interviews!

This advice is invaluable to me. Thank you.

At work today getting absolutely nothing done. Ahhh the stress!

hey guys,

maybe im the only one freaking out here but, has anyone gotten a phone call or an email for acceptance yet? if so, please let me know... it would really mean a lot to see where i stand!!!

So if we get rolled over to next adcom meeting does that decrease our chances of acceptance?

going on with what ucky said, is this acceptance email you're talking about regarding the regular pool interviews in October???

Yeah, regular pool and interviewed in October/November and got an email today. Your adcom member notifies you, so perhaps they just haven't all notified people.

As far as meetings go, they review files based on the average ranking given to you by your interviewers (1-5). So depending on that rank they review applicants at the meeting. It could be that the first meeting just went a little slower. It is discouraging to not have heard anything, but I'm just keeping an open mind that in due time we will all be reviewed and it is beyond our control right now. Chins up guys!

So I was told there's around 30 spots left + alternate list! Good luck to you all and myself included 😉

Hey y'all, I got the acceptance call from one of my interviewers this morning before 10. Pretty exciting! I like the fact that they call us. He was very complimentary and kind. I also got a second call from a different admissions committee member, but I was in class and missed the call. Don't be disappointed if you haven't heard anything yet. There's still loads of time left! Also, because I realize you want to know my stats:
Mcat: 33
GPA: 3.7
Over 100 hours of clinical experience
Interviewed on Nov 11th

Called the admissions office and Sabrina said everyone who were accepted have been contacted. The next adcom meeting will be Dec 17th

Yeah I actually got the acceptance call yesterday! They sent out an acceptance email almost simultaneously with the call, so you can expect both.

maybe premature but has anyone found/made a Facebook group yet?

Interviewed 12/4. 3.6/ 3.71 sGPA/GPA. 28 MCAT 9/8/11. Waiting for the next ad com meeting on Wednesday.

+1!
This is what I was told on interview day as well. I am not sure whether to go ahead and give up on being productive today at work or to just find something mind numbing to do to occupy myself. Either way today is going to go by slowly knowing the adcom is deciding my fate. Good luck to everyone! Hopefully we get some calls tomorrow.

I got an acceptance phone call at 5:30pm today! I interviewed last Thursday (Macon), December 11th. I'm beyond happy right now =D It was from my committee member interviewer, and he said that they would be sending emails tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed guys!!!!

Anyone else receive any call or email so far?! Congratulations to anyone who received an acceptance!

I waited until now to join because I knew it would make me obsess more over this application process but I couldn't hold out any longer. Waiting to hear from Mercer and hopefully will hear something tomorrow! Fingers crossed 🙂 good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know how many more times the admission committee meets? Aka...how many more chances we have? lol :O

Any news? Based on previous posts..it looks like calls are usually made in the evening of the meeting day..or the morning of the day after. :/...guess I'll have to wait another whole month!

Well this committee meeting was anti-climatic...as far as SDN goes 😉

I received an Interview Invite on December 12th. I was complete on November 6th.

Does anyone know how many acceptances have been sent out so far?

The next few days are going to go by very slowly waiting for the next adcom meeting. :nailbiting:

anybody know how late mercer sends out interview invites?
i know they interview through early march-ish i believe. which means invites would be earlier... afraid they're almost done with those... 🙁

Interviewed 1/15 and was told next committee meeting is not until Jan 28th

I know they sent out interview invites today because my best friend got one today! And when I interviewed they said the meeting was today but I guess it doesn't matter either way if it was today or next Wednesday! Good luck to everyone!

I didn't get a date for the February meeting but after next week if I don't hear anything I am going to call and ask

To anyone looking for some information/peace of mind, I emailed the admissions office to find out about the AdCom meeting dates. They told me that the meeting was, in fact, rescheduled from last Wednesday to this Wednesday (what everyone thought, but nobody seemed to know for sure) and the next meeting will take place on February 18th. Best of luck to all of you hoping for news in 2 days!

You're a true hero for calling and finding this out.

Time to be anxious again on Wednesday!

Good luck to everyone today and especially tomorrow!
