2014-2015 Mercer University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think it is safe to assume that they sent out all of their acceptances and they are making up the wait list as we wait. Goodluck to everyone as we all wait to see what happens next!

I'm not entirely sure what I should be hoping for at this point...do we recieve #s if we're on the wait list? and if so, should I hope to be 40 or lower? Since apparently..that's the average amount of movement? Any insights? Thoughts?

We do not know our placement on the wait list. Suggestion would be to keep in touch with them and keep providing updates if possible.

I would say yes and no. It is not as important as personal statement.

Thanks for the reply my friend, however I was speaking in reference to a Letter of Intent or Interest.

Oh my bad. I read it too quickly.

Oh my bad. I read it too quickly. I would say why not. Especially since Mercer is a safety school for many Georgia residents who have set their sights high, Mercer will have a lot of movement on their waitlist. Be aware that your LOI is almost binding, if you decide to go somewhere else after LOI, then they can contact the school that you ended up going to and they can revoke your acceptance on the grounds of breaching of ethics. That is what one admissions officer said.

I'm highly skeptical about the validity of this statement. Can someone please provide some more insight in to this craziness (I'm sorry idk what else to call it) about "they can contact the school that you ended up going to and they can revoke your acceptance on the grounds of breaching of ethics".
1) Why would they go out of their way to screw with your future like that?
2) That sounds like waaayyy too much work for a busy adcom
I would be interested in hearing more supporting info about this statement mi amigo

Thanks.

I said they can do it.

This is the first time I've heard this as well about schools revoking acceptance in this way as well. See if I were in their position, I personally would not read the LOI or I would take it with a grain of salt because every student is likely to say the same thing and, as sad as this is, pre-med students are not generally the most honest bunch in my experience.

Mercer actually in years past has not had a terrible amount of movement. I was told last year (when I was on the waitlist) that it's about 30 or so people that get off every year. I am not sure how accurate that statement is, but I did get it from the school directly. MCG has significantly more movement, but then they are a bigger school.

Anybody know roughly how many applicants they wait list? If I'm waitlisted...should I see that as a mini accomplishment in itself? Or does Mercer rank a significant portion of their applicants?

Anyone else notice the "Waitlist" tab on the secondary application website? I'm not sure if this was always here, or if it is letting me know I'm waitlisted. When I click on it, it's just a blank page.

Fairly certain that tab has always been there.
Nope, tab was not always there. I also don't have it...I guess see ya later, Mercer?

Tab is not there on mine either, but then they haven't updated my account even confirming that I did in fact go to my interview.

I have a blank waitlist tab. Maybe they are in the process of adding the tab to applicantions that will be waitlisted and will add info to it once the email goes out. I'm only speculating though. Who knows what this means yet..

Yeah just noticed that tab on mine too. I'm not 100 percent sure if that was there before or not...

That tab definitely hasn't always been there!

I believe all who have interviewed and haven't been accepted/rejected will find out tomorrow whether they have made it on the waitlist. I don't have the waitlist tab on my secondary and that's making me a bit pessimistic. Good luck to everyone!

You aren't the only one. I was waitlisted last year so if I am rejected this year after my stats have improved, I will be confused.

Hopefully there's no significance to the tab mystery then.

Well we shall wait. I think it's actually Monday when they tell us, not tomorrow.

Personally I don't remember there being a waitlist tab last year when I was waitlisted, but I can't remember that much about last year. There could have been a giant purple elephant on the application last cycle and I wouldn't remember it. 😉

On their admissions website it says the notification deadline is March 15th!

When I interviewed with Mercer they told me that their deadline for all notifications was March 15th! Were you told differently?

Yes, they told us March 16. That is Monday. I really doubt there are people working on Sunday.

At work checking my phone every second. At least it's gotta be sometime in the next three hours right?

I just received an email response from Sabina that I submitted on Friday. She said that everyone should receive a status update email this week . . . but she made no mention of it being today.

I've learned to cope with the waiting, but it's kind of nerve wracking when these schools can't even stick to their own dates/deadlines... :/

Seriously?! She's the one who told us that the deadline was today!

Don't you just love the med school admissions process?

Admissions office: Hey, you've been waiting to hear back from an application that you submitted half a year ago right? How about wait a few more nerve wracking days after the deadline we set to give you a decision to find out if you'll make the list to wait a few more months to see if you get in! :boom:

But the stress of waiting aside, I'll be happy whether I get in tomorrow or July 31, so long as I can go to med school. Here is to hoping all of us hear some good news soon.

Couldn't have said it any better!!!

I just talked to admissions. We will know by the end of the week. -_-

I'm also irritated about the deadline being pushed back, but maybe it's because they're convincing each other to accept some of us 🙂 I imagine they needed one more meeting than expected to set the wait list/acceptances. Let's all try to stay positive about this process 🙂 good luck!
I really respect your outlook on our current situation... 🙂

Did Mercer send rejections to anyone this application cycle? Or are they just waiting until some time this week to send them all?

Are we expecting them to send out more acceptances? I was thinking at this point we were waiting for rejection vs waitlist

More likely rejections or waitlists.

While more acceptances are certainly possible, I would assume they are unlikely since they notify accepted people the day after the adcomm meeting.

It really doesn't matter. I was trying to be positive. They're likely meeting again if they're setting a wait list. I see no reason they would delay the notification if they decided. If they wanted to meet again, they could also accept more people, if they want. Although I've been commenting and obviously have feelings, let's all relax 🙂

The rankings are, from what I understand, pretty easily sorted.

I speak as someone who was waitlisted last year, who met with the dean, and who didn't get in by a few thousandths of a point somewhere.

And yes, I know you were trying to be optimistic.

Did they tell you where you were on the wait list prior to not being accepted? I was wondering if they let us know our rank on the wait list. Also, can you move up or down in the wait list? Thanks!

They don't tell you and I don't think you can move down. You can move up if other people remove themselves off the waitlist. They don't take many off the waitlist. I think it was like 30 or 40 or something max.

Just received the alternate list email :/ I guess I'll just keep waiting and hope for the best.

I got Waitlisted as well. I called them. They don't say anything about where we stand on the Waitlist. In fact she said that we aren't even ranked. Idk how we are supposed to get accepted if we aren't ranked. She also wouldn't tell me how many were on the list. ಠ_ಠ

i have a big deposit due at another school coming up. I guess I just have to suffer $1500 loss if I get accepted to mercer. This is challenging. I wish medical schools had a more standardized admissions system.
