2014-2015 New York University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I definitely think the pace and personality will take a bit of getting used to, as I've only ever lived in the PNW! But I'm excited to experience the city when I visit 🙂 thanks for the info!! Is the area around NYU (Murray hill / kips bay, right?) nice? What about crime level?

Very very safe. Not my favorite part of town, can be a bit bro-y in murray hill. 1br $2000+/mo in my experience, my 2br was ~$3200/mo I think.

This is what I'm looking forward to in going to an NYC school 😉

Interesting, thanks! Safe is good at least. But the NYU dorms are like ~900-1000 a month I think, which is pretty good!!

Random tip, if you like drinking, make friends with the graduate students, they have a happy hour every friday with almost unlimited snacks and beer.
Anyway, I loved living near NYU. You might be able to find good deals at around $1700 for a 1br/studio near Murray Hill or east village if you are lucky. But that's still way more expensive than the dorm. As I said earlier, the qualify of life for me at NYU increased many folds with the new fairway market. I look forward to the future when I can just make a shopping list, go there for 30mins and get everything I need, pay $8 bucks and have 2-3 wks worth of grocery delivered.
Your life certainly won't be restricted to the NYU area. You should keep an open mind and visit new places! Especially the hearts of Brooklyn. It's a pretty special place now. Most places in NYC are safe. Even places that may provoke some nerve like Harlem are good to walk around during the day.

Anyhow, I'm really open to making new friends, PM me if you want help in finding apartments in the future or just want someone to hang out while you are here interviewing.

The NYU undergraduate area is probably my favorite part of NYC, so many things to do and places to eat; if only that school wasn't so expensive.

oh yeah downtown NYC is a very nice area, very safe!

Word.

Anyone else getting this error message when trying to submit their secondary?

NYU Admissions Fees - Error
The following error occurred:
Transaction cannot be processed [trouble connecting to server for verification]

For anybody else that is having problems, I spoke with the admissions office earlier today and they said they're having technical issues with the payment portal. The issue should be fixed by tomorrow.

Have the majority of people getting IIs been IS residents? Or has it been pretty mixed?

Just got an interview here, but my stats are far below average so I'm feeling self-conscious. Does anybody know how much weight GPA and MCAT carry after receiving an interview? As in, even if I interview well, could academic stats be a deal breaker in receiving an admission offer?

Do you mind if I ask what your LizzyM is? Or just MCAT score.

I actually attended NYU undergraduate, and I've attended a lot of their pre-health meetings.

Congrats on the interviews guys!!!!! What were the earliest dates available for y'all?

There were still 6 or 7 dates in October and 2 in November

Thank you! And congrats again, go kill that interview so you can attend one of the best schools in the country!

Hey, not sure which formula to use for lizzy M but MCAT was 32, GPA ~3.6

are you supposed to get any emails notifying you if your application is under review at any time?

Did anyone receive a complete email from NYU or any other communication after the submission of the secondary (aside from an interview invite, etc)?

I received no other communication.

I got a complete email a couple of weeks after I submitted.

I got an email titled "Secondary Application Complete" right after I turned mine in. The email also said "This will inform you that we have received all forms and credentials required to complete your application. "

What's the email it was sent from? I know they were going through technical issues, but never seeing that email makes me wonder if the application is logistically lost.

It was sent from the admissions office, [email protected] .

On another note, that's kind of interesting how the admissions email is sent from a .org address rather than a .edu address, isn't it? I wonder if that implies the admissions process may be carried out by a contractor.

Good point, has anyone contacted them about this?

On another note, has anyone who received the "Rejection" status on their app portal with a green checkmark and date of 1/3/2015 that was a "glitch" received an II? I have a feeling the only "glitch" was that they released the rejection information before 1/3/2015 🙁.

We are so unwanted that they rejected us before we applied 😢

Emailing soon about it.

I remember that discussion. All I can offer is that it seems overzealous that they would update the client-side web application so soon. I can see them maintaining an internal list but updating an applicant's portal this soon?

I agree that it's likely overzealous, but it's possible the internal list is linked to the database that had the technical hiccup.

Thanks so much! May the odds be ever in your favor this application cycle haha
