2014-2015 Ohio State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
does anyone know if decisions will come out the 15th or 16th? I was told the 15th at my interview, but received an email that said the 16th...

For those who have had interviews already, did you apply regular MD or early decision?

Mine only ever said received, I believe.

I contacted the admissions office recently to double check, since mine also only said received, and seemed to still give directions rather than confirmation of receipt of LORs. They told me that my application is complete, so it seems that the only status change is to "received", and then II, etc. after that.

I've been marked as "received" since mid-July as well with no e-mails or notifications since. Just patiently waiting for an II. Hopefully, schools will get their batch of first acceptances taken care of for this week, then switch gears and start giving out more II's. One can hope at least!

Just curious, has anyone received an interview here with a 30 or below?

Hey guys! So rumor has it Dr. Capers will start making his phone calls TONIGHT at 12:01am to the first batch of accepted students (those who were told that their decision day is Oct 15). This is not official, but I have heard some whisperings. Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone!

Are you trying to make sure I get no sleep tonight?? I don't think I'm going to make it through the next 24 hours

That's how it was for my year. I remember because I interviewed on the 15th and Dr. Capers looked very tired on account of having stayed up until 3AM making the first of his calls.

Medstar should then update your status soon after (within about a day or so of the call)

Best of luck!

Were different groups told different dates? In the email I received after I interviewed it says the 16th and I interviewed on the very first day. I am hoping I am wrong but don't want people staying up all night if it is actually tomorrow night.

I got an e-mail that said the 16th as well, but they gave me a sheet of paper during my interview that says to check your decision on October 15th

The 16th may be referring to when they update your status on Medstar, not when Dr. Capers makes his calls.

Do you know what happens if you don't pick up? I have an interview tomorrow, so I plan on trying to sleep as much as I can, so I may not hear a phone call if I were to be accepted.

They leave a message saying that you were accepted but that you have lost your acceptance by not answering their call--clearly a sign of a lack of interest.

Am I supposed to stay up until 12 AM ET to see if I get in?/ Haha I guess I'll know tomorrow!!!!!

You guys above are silly, playing with incredibly incredibly anxious pre-meds!

I got a phone call from Dr. Capers tonight! I put him on speaker. My mother was there and screamed. So psyched right now, and I so hope that good news is coming to all of you soon!

CONGRATS!!! definitely not sleeping tonight now...

Deferred....well that's a crappy way to start off this day 🙁

All these joyful capers for Capers!! Many congratulations to all accepted and hoping that acceptance deferred is NOT acceptance denied!

Hey guys, congratulations to the first wave of accepted students, and good luck to the rest of you for the remainder of the season! For those who interviewed early and were deferred, don't lose hope just yet!

Just a quick bit of advice: I know it's early, but if you are accepted here and are unsure at all about attending Ohio State, make sure to come to Second Look in the spring so that we can convince you that OSU is without a doubt the school for you. Congrats again all!

I am so glad to see that you love the place! Good people make it even more attractive! What do you love the most about OSU? (Please, please, please don't say football. . .)

Does anyone know if/when OSU rejects or if they do so silently? Congrats to everyone with interviews and acceptances!!

While I am a big football fan, that was not even on my list of things to consider when choosing a school. There are plenty of people in my class who don't care about football at all.

To address your question, I'd say my favorite thing(s) about OSU are the students, and the incredible amount of personal support you receive here. Firstly, my classmates and colleagues above me are absolutely fantastic. They are probably the biggest reason I initially chose OSU, as I could have gone elsewhere. I went to second look and met a whole host of people who would be forming my class, and it just felt so right. Our class is very social, and very collaborative. There's always someone to study with, hang out with, party with, or just talk to if you need it. Admissions did a great job in that respect.

That brings me to my second reason: Faculty and administration are very engaged in your success, both as a physician and as a person. This is something I have discovered more during my first three mo There are so many resources and opportunities for mentorship that it feels practically impossible to fail here. I have at least five dedicated physician mentors that I've been assigned as part of various aspects of the curriculum, and each of them bring something to helping me achieve my goals. It's a very comforting feeling knowing how well we are supported here.

That's probably enough rambling for now. To quickly mention a couple other things, I'll point out that OSU and Columbus has tons of other perks I enjoy, but those are mainly quality of life stuff, like a good music scene, great food places, full access to University resources, etc. (the discount ticket office here, and the Ohio Union Activity Board are legit here).

Thanks for the info! How are the winters over there in Ohio?

Manageable. Columbus is far enough south that lake effect snow is not really a thing here. Snow in general is not extensive, from what I have heard, it mostly just gets cold. Last winter was an aberration, but it was an aberration everywhere. It's gray for a few months, but there are worse things in life. Weather has actually been great the past three months, surprisingly enough.

Anybody ever hear about an applicant being referred to Medpath but then get put back into the regular MD admissions queue? Did they eventually get an interview? My status changed about a week and a half ago to Medpath but then my new MCAT score came in this week and now I'm back to regular admissions, just wondering if anybody has heard of this happening before.

Accepted and beyond ecstatic!!! Does anyone else know how soon we need to fill out and send in the Technical Requirements form?

Does anyone know what "deferred" here implies? I got deferred here and was one of the first interviewees. I looked up past threads on this too with OSU but they're pretty old. Does this mean I'll probably stay deferred for the rest of the year and be put at the wait list come May? Or is there a probability I'll be moved from the deferred list before May?

Thanks in advance!

When were you accepted and when did you interview?
Intervieed 9/15, accepted night of 10/14. But to any accepted students, have you done anything other than check the box saying you confirm your acceptance, or are you also mailing out the Technical Attestation thing?
