Hey everybody, whats the best way to get from New Haven union station to the school? I was thinking of taxi but wondering if there's a more cost effective method. Thanks

If you fly into New Haven Tweed airport and stay at the Best Western the school recommends; the Hotel will pick you up from the New Haven airport for free. They will also shuttle you to and from the school on interview day, for free. (Tip nicely!)

Unfortunately, I am taking the amtrak to new haven the morning of the interview.

Right now I'm debating if I should try applying to Quinnipiac as a long-shot school for next cycle. Stats are OOS 3.5cgpa 3.2sGPA 3.9non-sGPA with a 25 MCAT (retaking in January). I've been working as a tech/scribe for a retinologist for 6 months, have about 700 hours of clinical experience there (no other shadowing hours at the moment) and have volunteered at a hospital's pharmacy for about 115 hours.

I'd like honest opinions on if I'd just be throwing money away, thanks to all in advance... and good luck with your interviews!

Hi! Your MCAT score is definitely very low, so try and get that to a 30! Also you need to bump up both science and cumulative gpa. Maybe skip this next cycle and work on improving your grades? Best of luck! Also, figure out what you are weak in and spend hours just doing passages/problems. I highly recommend Kaplan for physics if you are weak in that, it took my PS score from a 7 to a 10🙂

I agree with Kelly, that MCAT is just too low to be competitive. The MD schools I have been applying to have not been considering under a 28 at all. Most won't really look under a 30. The gpa isn't the end of the world if you have very strong extra curriculars to go along with it. Hope you have been doing leadership, volunteering and shadowing! You could do post bac course work or other activities to improve your app along with the MCAT boost.

Also, are we thinking that everyone is (rightfully) celebrating the holidays now? Guess on more movement is first week of Jan right?

Got an interview here this morning! Really surprised as I thought they'd be on winter break. Do I have a realistic chance at acceptance or am I interviewing for a wait list spot?

I don't know for sure, but I think it would be way too early to interview for a waitlist spot. They got at least 7,000 applications this year, so if they invited you for an interview, you are more than qualified to be accepted there good luck on your interview!

Not interviewing for waitlist! They are actively looking for admissions at this time, this is from my interview with them 1.5 weeks ago. The interview is conversational with some pattern for questions but they want to know how excited and motivated you are for medicine! Go for it--Good luck!!!!!

Another question, can I catch a 9pm flight out of Laguardia on interview day?

Could be close with traffic, but I think if you hurry you'll make it. I got to Queens by 7:45ish after my interview.

I'll be there January 7 if anyone wants to explore the area PM me!

Just wondering what dates they are currently scheduling for? Figure you were in the most recent round of II invites.

When I scheduled my interview they had dates from early January through February. I took the earliest available date.

HAHAHA I just got rejected.

Thanks for the laugh this morning Netter! I guess they could tell that I had 0 interest in the school.

When were you complete?

I interviewed there. Went because I figured it would be good practice but I couldn't hold it together because I lost interest the second I learned that they had no idea what 3rd and 4th year would look like.

Accepted!!!! First acceptance, so excited!!

Congrats! Wonder if you were at my interview day 🙂

Thanks! I interviewed on like 12/3 I think it was.

And I hear what you're saying about the uncertainty of years 3/4. It's definitely something I will have to consider when I make my final decision (assuming I get more acceptances). That being said, I got the impression that everything is running pretty smoothly over there so I'm optimistically confident that they will provide excellent clerkship for their students. Plus I love how their 3rd year ends a few months early allowing for an extra elective.

Application complete 11/3, interview invite extended today for later this month! I sent an update letter two days ago so I'm not sure if that contributed to the recent invite. Does anybody that has interviewed recently have any advice? I know the school is new so I'm just going in with my normal MMI mindset.

This school doesn't do MMIs. You have two one-on-one interviews, which are open file (at least one is; one interviewer asked how I was able to increase my MCAT score so dramatically). Be prepared for the usual questions, i.e. Why medicine, why Quinnipiac, etc. and to discuss your ECs.

Both of my interviews were conversational and my interviewers seemed to be genuinely interested in me as a candidate. Good luck on your interview!

Thanks for the info! Do you remember approximately how long each of the two interviews were?

Just got an interview. Only dates I could see on the calender were the 16th, 22nd, 23rd of this month. Not sure if thats all that is left or just only what I am being allowed to chose from. Those of you that interviewed here, was it worth it? I would be coming from one of the two states not attatched to the rest of the US, so getting there so quickly would be difficult. Want to make sure it is worth it.

I was very impressed with the school overall. Great facilities, happy students, cool area of the country to live, very engaged faculty. The only down side is the fact that it has not yet graduated a class. Have you been accepted to any schools yet?

No I have not, which is why I want to go. I remember seeing you post in the CU SOM thread. Haven't heard back from them either. I just would have a hard time getting there from the last frontier. That would explain why I haven't seen a match list for them anywhere. Did they say anything about their Step 1 scores?

Well if you can make it work, I would go since you have not been accepted yet - best to put out as many lines as possible until you get a bite IMO.

As far as Step 1 scores. The inaugural class is in their 2nd year right now, so they will be taking step 1 this spring - if I remember correctly, they said they would post the scores as soon as possible.

Also Rejected, Complete Mid August, LM ~ 70.
Good luck to all who are still in the running!

Also rejected, complete late August, LizzyM ~68.

Was a little thrown off but hey, they got a ton of apps. I did appreciate their offer to discuss my application with them. You're doing rejection right, Quinnipiac! lol

+1.

Joining the rejection party, complete 7/23, pre-interview. They sure took their time.

Earlier in the cycle, they had it set up that you could only see the next 3 interview dates offered, but those were not the only dates remaining. If you respond to the II e-mail address asking if there are alternative dates, they may able to accommodate you.

If you have no acceptances right now, I would urge you to go unless you would not like to attend the school if you are accepted.

Congrats!

I wouldn't go in with an MMI mindset. They listen to you and want to hear your story. It's very conversational, but don't forget that it's an interview.

As a counterpoint, I didn't like it there at all. Facilities were nice and people seemed nice enough but it was too much uncertainty for me. Of the newer schools that has yet to graduate a class, I liked Hofstra much more.

I will be going to interview the 9th of February. From the end of the New Haven MTA line to the campus, whats the best means of transport?

Congratulations!! How did you send an update letter?
I realize now I was mistaken in posting that. I had sent update letters to multiple schools that day and had intended on sending one to Quinnipiac but they invited me before I got one out to them, so I'm going to hold off until post interview (scheduled a week from tomorrow).

Are you in-state?

Is anyone interviewing tomorrow taking the Metro North to New Haven, and then taking a cab to the school? If so, could we share the cab, or even meet at Grand Central. Please PM or respond to me, I would really appreciate it!
