2014-2015 Quinnipiac University Application Thread

I was very impressed with the school overall. Great facilities, happy students, cool area of the country to live, very engaged faculty. The only down side is the fact that it has not yet graduated a class. Have you been accepted to any schools yet?

I was also very impressed with this school. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I think that they also have a very interesting curriculum and for being a relatively new school it sounds like they have many programs to offer their students. I would agree that the only downside is that it is such a new school so there are still some uncertainties. If you have not received any acceptances I do think its worth it.

II today! I'm OOS and was complete mid-September. I'm stoked--Quinnipiac is easily my top OOS choice.

So I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere, but what's the best way to fly in and then get to a hotel (going to tay at the Best Western)? How about getting back to the airport after the interview? Do they have a place you can stow your stuff if you're leaving right after?

Yes, they have a place to stow your stuff. I am sure this was not the most cost effective way to do it but I flew into La guardia (because it was much cheaper than flying directly into Connecticut) and then took a shuttle to the Best Western (I am terrible with public transportation because I grew up in a really small town and didn't want to risk getting lost). I think there were various other options to move around in Connecticut though. Best Western provides transportation to the med school and back. From there I took the shuttle back to the airport.

Congrats!! Do you mind sharing your stats? You can PM me if you want. I have been complete since 9/3 and still nothing :/

Thanks for the tips! I was thinking about flying to LaGuardia but with the cost of a shuttle it ended up being just as economical (and presumably much less of a hassle) to fly into Tweed, so I'm doing that and staying at the Best Western.

Mind sharing complete date?

This is exactly what I did and it worked out really well with the shuttle service. The only issue I had was that I couldn't get a flight out of tweed same day as the interview because it ends a little on the late side so I ended up having to stay an extra night. Though I was trying to get back to Los Angeles, so if you're on the east coast I image they may have later flights. Also, be aware that the shuttle only runs from 7am to 10pm, so if you have to go or come from the airport outside this time range you'll need a cab. Best of luck with your interview!!!

Thank you! I ran into the same trouble--couldn't get a flight until 7AM the next morning. I'm super p̶o̶o̶r̶ c̶h̶e̶a̶p̶ economical though and have bad luck catching early flights..so I'm just planning to stay at the airport.

Anyone else from 12/05 interview not hear anything yet?

Same here...hopefully more dates show up, since a week's notice is way too short to go cross-country...

Yeah, it ended up being a bit cheaper to fly into LaGuardia (like ten dollars lol) but I had never been to the east coast so I did it more so I could at least fly over and drive through New York. It will likely be less of a hassle though. Good luck with your interview 🙂

Yeah I also couldn't find flights later on in the day so I just caught the shuttle right after my interview and was planning to spend the night at the airport, but then I ended up exploring New York City all night with a friend.

Sorry if this has been already asked, but does anyone know the class size this year? I think last year was 90 but I wonder if the number of spots has been increased.

I think they said the class was going to be somewhere between 90-120. They were not sure if they were going to keep it at 90 or expand to at most 120.

Yup, solorun is spot on for what they said at my interview. If I had to guess, I would bet it will be 120. They received more than enough applications this year to fill 120 quality spots, and at the end of the day, more spots = more money, and who doesn't need more money.

Hey all! I'm actually a first year student at Quinnipiac/Netter now and happy to answer any questions - feel free to PM me. I'll try to start keeping an eye on the thread since I see there aren't many current students here answering qs.
Regarding the number in next years class, it's actually in the hands of the AAMC - the body that accredits our school. The school was built to house 120 (or 125?) students in each class. We started with 60 in the first class, and then 90 in the next - because the AAMC approved that expansion - which is actually quite an aggressive expansion compared to other new schools, so it may be another year or two before we move up to 120... Only time will tell.
Again, happy to answer any other qs - feel free to PM me.

That's what I get for talking out of my ass . Thanks for the info!

I was told at my interview that they would keep the class at 90 for at least 1 more year, then look to expand towards 120.

Interviewed yesterday. I liked this school a whole lot more than I anticipated and the current students are really happy there. Any of the people I interviewed with on here?

Congrats on your interview!
Did they tell you how full the class was by any chance yesterday? I'm still holding out hope for an interview invite.

I attempted probing to get a feel for how many seats they had filled but they would not divulge any information. The general feeling I got was that they were getting fairly full and a few of my fellow interviewees (9 total were present) agreed. They did state that interview invites would be extended until the end of February though and that the last interviews would be scheduled for late March, so don't give up hope on an invite yet!

Also, the M2 class is 60 students, M1 is 90. They told the M1 class it would remain at 60 when they were applying but they decided to expand. They are telling the interviewees it will remain at 90 for the coming year but some of the current students believe that they may expand to 120 for the incoming class. This is based on what has been happening with the school since some of the current faculty were members of the medical college accrediting board as well as the board the writes the USMLE exam questions, so the expansion wouldn't be a stretch.

These are just opinions though, not fact, so interpret this how you see fit.

I am also waiting to hear back from the school and every day I don't get rejected I am trying to stay positive. If they would just interview me they would see! I am so much better in person then on paper! I am trying to stay positive though. Stay strong my friends!

For those of you who haven't heard from them yet, they have interview slots through the 2nd week of March, so II's & rejections will be sent out within the next month or so.

Just curious. Where did you get this info from?

I'm not sure where they got their information, but they did let us know during our interview they would continue to interview through the middle of March.

The info is from the admissions office. They told me when I called to ask about my app status.
I wasn't intending that your information was not accurate, just confirming I was also told it was in March by the school.

Still silence from this school...does anyone know if they have filled up the majority of their class? I know that it's possible to get an II this late, but the question is how many?

Rejected pre-II this morning, complete since late August, OOS LizzyM ~71. Best of luck to all of you!

Rejected pre-II as well. They said we can call after May 15 to make an advising appointment. Good luck to those still waiting!

Sorry that statement must have come out too dry haha. I understood 🙂
