Anyone have any idea how many ii's netter is extending this year? Last year they gave them out at a ratio of about 1 out of every 5 but that was with only 1600 applicants (oos)

They only had 1600 oos applicants? no way I thought it was a lot more than that.

I think ElizaMD88 is referring to the numbers in the MSAR, which for some reason still don't reflect the statistics for the class of 2018 which had a total pool of ~5000 applicants. The MSAR numbers seem to be in regards to their inaugural class which had a pool of around ~2000 applicants. Although I could be way of base here...

Ya, you're right. Those were the numbers i was looking at. Do you know what the ratio of applicants to invites is?

does anyone know how good the waitlist movement was last year?

Just got an II today after having been complete since around 7/20.

About a month ago I got the email saying the school is busy.

If you're still waiting to hear something, don't give up!
That is so great to hear! I was so disappointed to not get any response from them, but maybe I will still hear something!

It seems like most people who have heard back recently were complete in July/Aug (with a few September). Considering your app was submitted on 12/1 (is that the deadline?) I would presume it may take some time before you will have to worry about potential travel arrangements. For schools with rolling admission, it is advantageous to apply early. Also, while your short bio seems really impressive (GPA and interesting background), I don't think your MCAT score is going to help you out (especially the 5 in VR). Are you considering retaking it?

MDScribe,

I scheduled for mid Jan MCAT but appears that I may not take it. I got secondaries from 3 schools in states, SC, CT and PA. Expect more secondaries. I have 1 yr research experience as well. The schools consider latest Sept 18, 2014 MCAT scores, so thinking not to take Jan 2014 MCAT. If do not get in this year, atleast in DO, will take new MCAT 2015. Verbal is a challenge for me. I know 3 -4 more languages other than English. Yes, 12/1/2014 was dead line for AMCAS. I applied to 15 schools including 3 minority schools.
In all honesty, your 25 mcat will likely hurt you more than your late application submission. Netter's avg will likely be 30-31 based on last year's avg and the large increase in apps this year. Good luck with your application but I strongly urge you to retake the MCAT and plan on applying next cycle as early as possible.

It's really impressive that you know 3-4 languages. I'm sure some schools will understand an unbalanced VR score, but I'm not sure if a 5 will cut it. I saw that you posted an MCAT score of 24 in another forum (PS 11, BS 9, VR 4). Was that a typo or another test date? If you have already taken it twice (with a 4 and 5 in VR), I would consider really taking some time to aggressively work towards bumping up the VR score a few points. Considering your success in all other areas, I'm sure you can pull it off! I don't know what your timeline is at this point, but I can't imagine you hearing back from schools anytime soon (it is really just that late in the process). Rushing to take the MCAT in Jan probably wouldn't make sense, and wouldn't give you much time to drill verbal practice. Also, what are "minority schools"? I know practically nothing about DO admissions stats, so I'm not sure how low of a VR score you need to still be in the game. For the MD cycle, I would really reassess MCAT strategy for 2015, and get ready for next cycle (instead of wasting time and $$ with secondaries that may not amount to anything).

24 MCAT was from June 2014
25 MCAT is from Sept 2014

I am surprised that why three schools, CT, PA and SC states have sent secondary in that case if they will reject based on my MCAT any way. I may not get an interview. I am waved secondary fees for 15 schools that I applied so does not hurt to submit secondary. Thanks.
Nearly all schools just automatically send secondaries to everyone. Are you opposed to applying to DO schools?

I will submit DO applications next week.

Is everyone granted a secondary application?
No, not all applicants will be granted a secondary application. The school of medicine employs a holistic review process whereby all applicants are considered using their metrics (GPA and MCAT), experiences and attributes to find evidence that applicants can be successful in our curriculum and environment. While each incoming class will present a range of credentials, both academic and non-academic, a review of our Incoming Class Profile for Fall 2013 should provide applicants with greater insight into the competitiveness of their candidacy.

Correct, Quinnipiac is one of the few that do screen as I insinuated above.

Listen, I'm not trying to discourage you, I think it is wise of you to submit DO applications. That being said, you are applying extremely late in the cycle, many schools have zero interview spots left and most others have very few interviews left to give (per ADCOM members on this site such as Goro). It sounds like you have a really interesting story to tell in your application about your life experiences and your journey to where you are now. However, your MCAT is severely limiting you for MD schools. If you focus your time for the next 4-5 months on rigorous studying for the new MCAT (specifically on verbal) and get your primary application in by june/early july then your chances of admittance will go up exponentially... If you don't mind me asking, why are you applying so late?

OK , thanks!
I think getting secondary is important to have a hope for interview.
Hypothetical question, If there is interview invite after secondary completion, does it means that there is some interest in the application from school ad com?

Sorry if this comes off as being a bit aggressive, but as others have said before 1) you SUPER LATE to the application process. Can't stress that enough - a lot of people have been done with applications since July/August, and medical schools generally admit on a rolling basis. Meaning that they've started accepting since October, and as the season goes on, the less spots are available and the more competitive each spot becomes. At this stage, even if you get an interview invite, it will likely be for February/March, eg when there are very few seats left for acceptances, or you're being straight up interviewed for a wait list position.

That being said, if you do get an interview invite, yes it means there is interest. However, I'd suggest getting the MSAR (you can buy it on the AAMC website) to get a feel for how many interview invites are sent, see in state bias of schools etc. Nevertheless, as others have said, getting a secondary generally doesn't mean anything. Even for Quinnipiac, which screens, I doubt they invite more than 10-15% of the people they send a secondary to into the interview stage.

I'd also suggest you post your stats/experiences and question on the What ARe My Chances thread. This thread is school specific, so you won't get as many good responses as if you posted in a larger, general thread where admission committee members can see.

Yashi, you're way behind. It's honestly best for you to wait till next cycle and apply early. Deadlines for secondary submission are already past at some institutions. Get your ducks together. You don't have everything set up yet.

Spoke to someone at admissions recently:

7800 apps, 500 II's will be sent, and almost half will receive acceptances.

I didn't feel a good fit there and felt like it came through during the interview. Not expecting much.

Thanks, I got the feel from you guys.
I actually applied here on 12/1. I did not know about this school until I was going through the list of schools on AMCAS on that day. But reading about their program, I was really excited. I know it is super late, and I wondered if I should save time and money for the next time around, but I decided to apply anyway. I would just go into this with very low expectations, like everyone is saying. But follow your heart, Yashi. If you feel you are a good fit and have a compelling reason to apply this late, explain that in your essay. Good luck.

Interviewing this week; anyone want to explore the little town let me know. PM me!

Any interviews rolling out? Waiting as patiently as I can for that email!!

Just curious. Why did you not feel like a good fit?

While I think learning from a primary care focused school has its perks, i.e. good clinical skils (which I think is hugely important), I'm interested in research and academic medicine and these opportunities require much more legwork to find here. Additionally, with no step scores or match lists, this place feels like a gamble to me.

There are also some personal reasons, as I've had really bad experiences at one of the affiliated outpatient practices and frankly would hate to talk to any of those physicians again let alone learn from them. (Clarifying to write that this was as a patient).

The school is pretty true to its mission, it just doesn't seem to jive with mine. If others went there and felt good about it then that's awesome for them. I'm just hoping I get in because I don't have an acceptance yet. I liked albany and hofstra a lot more.

Again, this school might be a great fit for others, but I didn't feel that. I think it has a lot going for it, but at this point it's a bit of an expensive experiment to want to be a part of.
