Does anyone known what the deal is with staying with students for September interviews or who to contact?
 
Does anyone know what the postal mail information actually contains? Also, does anyone have information on which hotels to stay at, etc?
 
The University Manor Inn is right across the street from the med school, and is pretty much the only hotel in the area.

II this morning! First one, so excited. OOS, MCAT 30, BCPM 3.85, complete July 8. My interview is scheduled for Sept 17th, anyone else gonna be around at that time?

That's what I'm scheduled for too. Hotel is only option I guess. Are there no accommodations to stay with current students?

I just called and they said staying with current students wont happen until october. The hotel is really cheap so its not that big a deal
 
From their website: "We require an interview for admission. If you’re not selected, we will notify you as soon as we have reviewed your application."

If that's really the case... that's is super nice! Sweet of them to not string people along, especially since they claim to do random review. (though judging from this thread, most II's have gone to people who were complete very early in July, so maybe not so much the case?)
 
I am interviewing on Sept 17th, and will be arriving on Sept 16th at around 4:00PM (flight from Chicago -> BUF). Anyone interested in exploring the campus? PM me!
 
Thought this was an interesting read, taken from the SMBS Medical Admissions Policy:

Step 1: Screening process performed by the Admissions Screening Subcommittee
A. Every applicant’s admissions folder is reviewed individually using holistic analysis to:
a. Evaluate his or her ability to meet the academic challenges of the SMBS
curriculum,
b. Assess his or her suitability for a career in medicine, and
c. Assess his or her ability to fulfill the mission and values of the SMBS and the
profession of medicine.
B. The Admissions Screening Subcommittee reviews all application documents provided by
the applicant to assess the essential and unique attributes of the applicant.
C. The review process assesses an applicant’s academic metrics, attributes, and experiences
in the context of the three criteria listed above.
D. Once an applicant is deemed capable of successfully mastering the challenges of the
SMBS curriculum, specific academic metrics such as GPA and MCAT scores are not
given additional weight during the review process; rather they are assessed within the
context of the applicant’s other attributes and experiences.
E. At the completion of this review a select group of applicants will be invited for interview.
 
Undergrad here, submitted secondary today. Late but praying my school shows me some love.

Hey sirphillup, just wondering...when were you complete? I really love this school and waiting to hear some news. Would love to know where I am at in the process.

i feel the same way. i used fap waiver ...well supposedly because there is no place to say that you have one. you just ignore the payment step...but when i check my secondary to make sure it went through it saved the info i typed it but doesnt say that i submitted...idk guess ill get nervous after a week or so

Glad to hear that it was more relaxed. Just wondering, was it one faculty interview and one student interview? Also, was there some sort of essay for us to write before the interview?

Two one on one interviews. It's random selection on if you get a faculty or student or such. And yes just a small writing portion. Nothing to fret about at all

Submitted 7/26 (obviously, kind of late), but still haven't been marked complete. I emailed and was told that my app is complete, but they haven't processed it yet. Most of you seemed to be complete within two weeks.....anyone else still waiting to be complete after a month???

I submitted 7/7, received a complete email 7/22, and haven't heard anything back since. I'm assuming they are just pretty backed up.
 
complete 7/11..no word yet...either they backed up or I am in the rejection pile
 
Can anyone comment on the MD-PhD program here?
 
What hotels are you guys with II choosing? We got a few recommendations in the interview invite packet but I actually wasn't gonna go with any of them... I was thinking maybe University Manor Inn??

Any advice from past interviewees or anyone would be great 🙂

No promo codes or discounts (*see Wyndham Garden) but there are other amenities like shuttles and services that are included, so you might want to wait for your packet to see all the details. There also was no student stay program available for 9/17 interview, but the packet does mention that if it were to be available for your interview, a list of potential students would be included.

This is the list within the packet that Buffalo said were convenient hotels/motels. Doubletree by Hilton (Amherst Campus), Courtyard Marriot, Lord Amherst Motor Hotel, Holiday Inn, Red Roof Inn, Comfort Inn.

In addition, there are a few flyer ads included for Wyndham Garden (ask for UB Medical Admission Program Rate: $107 plus tax), DoubleTree by Hilton ($107), Holiday Inn ($99), and Garden Place Hotel ($81).

Not sure why University Manor Inn isn't included in the packet, it is by far the closest motel (located about an 8 minute walk from the location we have to be the morning of the interview). I haven't interviewed yet but I booked a room here. I'll let you guys know how it is!

Do you happen to know how they process? GPA/MCAT/IS? I heard Downstate's review order is also random.
 
Someone mentioned essays for those of us with interviews. I didn't see anything in the packet though...

only thing I've heard is a short writing activity the day of the interview that we shouldn't stress too much over. don't really know what to expect though!

II just now! IS, complete 7/22 but had an issue with my legal residence on AMCAS so may have been delayed. Really excited for this one!

This may seem ridiculous but for the secondary, when it asks:

*Please list all online courses that you have already taken in college:*

Did you list all the *online* courses you took in college, or did you list, online, all the courses you took in college.

....

This question makes me wonder why I think I am qualified to become a doctor. LOL.
