2014-2015 Temple University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
HAHA my portal says 'welcome to the class of 2018'. Looks like I missed the first two months of class.

Congrats to all those accepted today, Temple is an awesome school. I don't get to checking these boards much but if a MS1 here can answer any questions PM me.

Accepted via email at 3:30PM as well! interviewed 9/23. congrats everyone! :highfive:

So the deposit is due on the 29th.... if I do this does this mean I'm now bound and can't go anywhere else? Or can I put a deposit and still wait for another school later?

From my understanding the deposit is non binding.

Edit: as per the email

In order to reserve your seat in the class, a $100 tuition deposit is due on October 29th. This deposit will be applied to your tuition and is refundable until April 30th. You can log onto TempleMedOnline at tmo.temple.edu to pay the tuition deposit.

So if you back out before april 30th, you still get your money back

Can people who were accepted share their stats? Did anyone apply to their EDP program?

Some questions for current students:

1. Do most students live in center city? Do a lot of people have a car or no?

2. According to this page
http://www.temple.edu/medicine/education/documents/block_two.pdf
only the top 12 students in the course get honors? Also I didn't think high pass existed?

1. In my class, it seems a majority live in CC and commute using the Broad Street line, but there are a number of us which live elsewhere (NE, NW, South) and I know several, including myself, have cars. It's by no means required though. I myself take the bus and have no issues. Parking is kind of expensive so I passed on the parking this semester.

2. No idea how old that document is - I'm IN Block 2 right now and that is not up to date at all. 🙂 The first 2 years are graded Honors, Pass, Fail. There is no curve. Honors is 92% or above, pass 70% or above. If everyone in the class gets 92% or higher, everyone gets honors; i.e. your grade is independent of how well your peers do, there is no competition. In my experience so far, everyone is INCREDIBLY helpful. My class shares notes, video links, study guides, etc. every day on our class Facebook page to help each other out.

Can anyone use their portal site properly? I'm trying to deposit the 100 but the site is giving me a weird error and shows me code.

I was able to pay the deposit without any problems. Maybe try a different browser or device?

Anyone who interviewed in October head anything back yet?

Does anyone know what the post-interview acceptance rate is?

On the website, my status updated to Invited for Interview last week. Still haven't received the official email, so I can't schedule yet.

Does anyone know what the post-interview acceptance rate is?

I don't think anyone knows for sure. It seems like a lot of schools offer about twice as many acceptances as seats they have. Looking at the MSAR, the total number of interviews for two years ago was 1019 with 215 matriculated, which is about a 21% matriculated rate. To estimate the average post interview acceptance rate, in theory you could double that to get ~42%. The estimated acceptance rate is higher for in state residents (~80%) than for out of state residents (~24%).

Those accepted, did any of you get an email about sending your SSN? If do where did you submit it?

I just did actually, I called the office to see if it's real (just in case) and they said I should call back tomorrow. The woman who sent the email is out for the day. I'm just going to wait till I speak with them tomorrow, but I doubt it's fake.

I actually created a portal login. Pretty sure it is real since it's the same email address that sent us the secondaries. I also called and they told me the same thing. Either way I don't think it's a big deal, as long as our deposit is paid.:highfive:

Should update letters include AMCAS ID? Or can you assume submission through the portal will link the document to your ID?

I've believed with all of mine that it can't hurt to include it.

Anyone who interviewed in October head anything back yet?

I'm not sure if it works the same at the main campus, but when I interviewed at Temple St. Luke's a few weeks ago, they said that they interview for the first 3 weeks of each month, then the committee meets to review all of those students during the fourth week, and decisions are sent about 2-3 weeks after that. If the main campus does it the same way, October interviewees won't be decided on until next week, which would explain why, at least in this thread, it appears that only September interviewees have gotten acceptances thus far. Like I said, not sure if the main campus utilizes the same schedule, but that's what they told us for St. Luke's.

Hey so I just interviewed at St. Luke's this past month and just wanted to share some information to everyone

At St. Luke's they interview every Tuesday of the month except the last. On the last Tuesday the committee will get together and make decisions, which are then released mid-late of next month (So for October people, probably late November). For interviews at St. Luke's, Dr. Rosenfeld (Chief Academic Officer and Senior Associate Dean for the regional campus at St. Luke's) said that both student interviews and faculty interviews are equally important. He did not however say if the student interviewer also joins in on the committee or rather just provides a report.

For the main campus they interview Tuesday-Thursday and meet every Friday to make decisions. However, they noted that the faculty interviewers don't necessarily go to the decision-making meetings every Friday, but rather may go every other Friday or perhaps even more infrequently. This explains why for some people they can get news of their admissions in as short as two weeks, to as long as six weeks. For interviews at the main campus they noted that the faculty interview is much more important than the student interview.

Also for those who have already interviewed and are on the wait-list, the admissions officials at Temple have said it's important to send letters of interest in March!

Either way, good luck to all, and hope to see some of you guys at Temple next August. Feel free to message me for more specific questions!

What month are they scheduling interviews for now?

Hey guys,

So my roommate is moving out and we are looking for a 3rd individual to take his place. The place is a beautiful 3 story apartment with backyard and deck. You are more than welcome to come check out the place. He is offering to leave all the furniture with the exception of the bed if you move in between now and January 1st, but you can certainly move in in July as well! Me and my other roommate are both MS1's at Temple Med this year and would be happy to help give some advice getting acquainted with Temple Med. Send me a private message if you are interested or for more details! We are preferably looking for a male roommate!

II today, I'm thrilled! Do you guys think it would be a good idea to schedule for an interview in December even though there are still some open November interview slots? I'll be done with finals by then which is the main reason I'd do it, but I'm a teensy bit worried that a December flight may be more likely to be delayed due to possible inclement weather.

Congrats! I would interview ASAP if I were you.

Hey ladies and gentlemen! I interviewed at this amazing school on the 7th of October and was wondering if anyone from the month of October has heard back on admissions decisions? If not, when should we expect to hear back from? Wishing all of you other great applicants the best of luck on this cycle!
