2014-2015 Temple University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So since it sounds like they are up to people who were complete in mid August, as someone who was complete sometime in September, should I expect about another month before I hear from them?

For all you dog lovers out there, Temple had a dog therapy day in the library yesterday for the students to come relax with some pups. Love this school!

Again, anyone who has questions about the school feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to answer them.

They do this every semester at the undergraduate campus library and it's always popular! The dogs are absolutely adorable and friendly, and they bring different ones each time 🙂

Hey guys I need your help
Can anyone please let me know the format an update letter.
I haven't heard from temple so far but I want to send them a couple of extracurricular activities that I have done but do not know where to to start.
Please let me know if you have done an update letter before and how the format should be
Thank you!

Google update letter format for medical school. It's really not that complicated.

You address it to the admissions dept/deans. Describe your interest in the school and post a few notable updates.

For all schools you send an update to, make sure to also include at a minimum in the header, your name, current email and AMCAS ID#.

Interviewed end of November...CCL received today (12/15). Temple was more excited to put me on their CCL than another school was to accept me.

wow that was a pretty quick turnaround, interviewed early november and still haven't heard anything, but expecting the CCL as well since some people who interviewed around when I did already got accepted

I was complete mid august and have yet to hear back. I sent in an update letter as well.

Sigh.

interviewed here last week. Not sure whether I killed the interview or bombed it. Honestly.

Do you mind sharing what day you interviewed? I was 11/23 and am still painstakingly waiting....

Interviewed first week of November and silence... Honestly, I think it depends on when your faculty interviewer is available to make a case for you at an adcom meeting. My faculty interview went really well and she said she would be more than happy to endorse me at the committee meeting-- I have yet to be accepted or CCL'd. I'm sure they can't all attend each one because of their personal schedules, so whenever a decision is reached we will hear... hence the broad range of turnaround times. I don't think there is any reason to panic if people around your interview date have heard back and you haven't.

I hope it works out!

Thanks for the information! Hopefully we both hear some good news! Really hoping they send out some decisions before winter break begins

So, I'm one of the people who have been "under review" for months and I just noticed that in the portal it says that they do not want you to send them transcripts unless you have already been accepted or completed some prerequisites that you previously did not have complete... Does this mean that If I send them an update letter, I should not include my recent grades from this semester? Or do they just mean that they don't want people mailing them transcripts? What have you guys done?

I would interpret that message to mean they don't want you to have your school send them an official transcript. But a letter that says "I've done X, Y, and Z since submitting my application, and earned a 3.9 this past semester" or however you word it would probably be fine.

Congrats to those accepted!!

I interviewed on 10/28 and am still waiting. Is this about the average length of time? They didn't let us know how soon we would hear back on my interview day.

Thanks!

Congrats (and Merry Christmas, indeed!) to all the new acceptances today! See you all in Philly in August!!

This is going to sound ridiculous, but I don't know how to PM...the sad story of a mostly lurker on sdn lol. Would you mind sending me the link to the fb group? Thanks in advance!
Congrats on all the recent acceptances! I made a Class of 2019 FB group, so PM me and I'll send you the link.

not sure if this was mentioned in previous posts but is temple receptive to interest letters pre-interview?

Hello all! Merry Christmas Eve! I was wondering for those placed on the waitlist, was there a status change to your portal or did it continue to say interview complete? Thank you in advance!

I wrote an update letter in October and received an II three days later. Thats about as good of evidence as any that they are at least somewhat receptive.

Burntheblobs, would you mind sharing your stats? I updated in Oct as well but have heard nothing. I am now working on a second update

I just got my acceptance email!

Interviewed on December 4, 2014
Accepted on December 23, 2014 (less than 3 week turnaround)
I never sent any updates after the interview.

Oh God I know! Accepted today to the main campus.

Accepted e-mail today. Interviewed 11/11.

Accepted. Interviewed on 11/6

Belated congrats to all of you!!

If you can, would you be willing tell me your stats/ECs? I would really appreciate it if you can 🙂

3.3 cGPA, 3.5 sGPA, Double Biochem and Biology, 32 MCAT (x2; taken twice three years apart; exact same score/breakdown).

I have 3 years of EC's from since graduation in late 2011. In my time as an undergrad and after, this includes employment in military R&D for a pharma, field biologist 1 yr, several paid research projects, two academic labs (no papers), and Ochem tutoring as a "professional tutor" for a small company. ***Year-round service for four years at a camp for pediatric cancer pt's*** (This is my lifeblood, on my PS, the Why Medicine question; it really is a culture of service that has completely changed my perspective), leadership in fraternity, past children home summer volunteering. Most recently, took a few night courses, volunteering at free clinic (once per week), and as a hospital patient tutor for Children's Hospital (once per week) while day job as med assistant at family practice.

I did get into the St. Luke's program, which may be different than Temple in general. It is an honor to be accepted; however, I am still waiting on a handful of other schools.

Good luck, sir!

Thanks and congrats Graywolf!

I hope I will get in somewhere, lol

Is there a Medical Spanish program at Temple? Or any other elective options during the first two years? Thanks

When you update does it appear on the portal? I thought I updated all the schools I applied to, but under the "send us stuff" tab on temple's portal, there is no evidence that I sent them anything.
