2014-2015 Texas A&M Health Science Center Application Thread

If you want to stay with a student volunteer, what day would I have to fly in (TX res, but college is OOS)?
Also, can I book a flight for the same day to leave? The interviews are b/w 2-5PM...Plus, Hobby airport is ~2 hours away if I leave immediately, so say I get there around 7ish; should I book a flight to leave that day or no?
Thanks!

Be careful with that- sounds like you would be heading into Houston during peak rush hour, which will be madness. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of buffer time.

I see. So would it be best to arrive a day before my interview, attend the social, and leave the next day, in the morning? -specifically if I were to stay with a student volunteer?

It's been really quiet in this thread. *cricket cricket* Has anyone received any IIs?

I would highly recommend attending the social on the day before the interview, it's a great chance to meet students and it can help put your mind at ease about the next day, plus you will already know a few of the people which is comforting.

Also with regards to the interview day at A&M, expect a full day of presentations and tours ending with two interviews. I found my interview at A&M to be very relaxed. They really make an effort to welcome you to the community.

Yes, they are currently building a brand new state of the art anatomy building, which is scheduled to be finished for the next incoming class.

Bryan/College Station is currently undergoing a many development projects. Even next to the A&M Medical School campus there is a huge project currently in development called ATLAS, you can read more about it here:

So I submitted my secondary in early June but my portal only says "true" for my secondary fees and is still pending...is any one else in the same situation? Should I call?

Ughhhhhhhhh I just realized somehow my whole secondary got deleted when I paid so I've been waiting all this time and they didn't even have it! FML

Wow, thanks for the info!

Anyone know how the secondary fee waiver works? I submitted the info to them 4 days ago, but nothing has changed in the BAMF screen. Do I need to submit the secondary first?

The same thing had happened to me as well. Set me back almost three weeks :bang:
3 months for me :boom:If I didn't already have 2 other interviews (and a be a recent UT grad...hook 'em!) I'd be way more upset. Oh well! Gotta get it in now

TX Resident, 3.8 GPA, 32 mcat. Applied June. Any comments on my chances? No invites yet from TX schools
Did you get an II yet. I have similar stat like you with 3.7/33, but no II yet. Good luck.

Does anyone who has interviewed here/somewhere else already see the "[Click To Go to School Ranking] button" on your TMDSAS app yet?

Hi all! Crazy excited. II received today! OOS student. Can someone fill me in on a few things?

I just assumed I would be interviewing at CS. Any reason why I'm interviewing at Temple? Does that indicate anything?
Which is the best airport to fly into for the Temple campus?
Does this mean I am being evaluated for Temple campus only? Do we get any say in what campus we like (for clinical years at least)?

Thanks in advance!
Hey congratulations! Just for inquiring minds what's your stats as an oos?

Supposedly the interview location (Temple versus CS) is randomly chosen. I did find it interesting that a lot of Texas A&M students from CS were sent to Temple for their interview, at least on my day, so wondering if they were trying to expose those students to the Temple campus. Overall it doesn't mean anything and where you interview at has no bearing on which campus you end up for school. They will explain it more on your interview day, but they are changing the curriculum so that all students spend at least the first year at College Station before being sent to one of the other campuses. I believe you will get to indicate your campus preferences after you are accepted, but they only have a certain number of seats for each campus so may not get your first choice.

And congratulations on the II!

The campus you are at your interview somewhat random in that they also try to accommodate whichever is closer to you.

It doesn't matter which campus you interview at. Also, starting with our class, all MS1's will be together for the preclinical years (now 1.5 years) at the CS/B campus and it will no longer be a split campus with half the class at Temple 🙂

Howdy! I would recommend landing in Killeen (GRK) or Waco (ACT). Killeen is about 10 miles closer. It may be advantageous to contact the admissions office and ask how most OOS interviewees handle their commute. I am sure they would love to help and can give better advice.

Notsofast When did you submit your secondary? Also are you URM?

You can get invites all the way into November here, so hold out hope!

@TexasPro, Not yet. Stay positive is my suggestion. Our stats are above average for admitted students in TX and interviews go on till November I understand . Good luck and hope we get called soon

Invitations go on into December, interviews into January. We have lots of time.

I have an interview Temple Location. After the first 1.5 months at B/CS what locations do I get to choose from? Houston?
Thanks!

They go over the program and curriculum and clinical year options before lunch and before interviews, so I wouldn't worry about having to know much beforehand. Good luck!

Finally submitted my secondary today...after discovering it got deleted when I paid on May 19th. I doubt I get a II but oh well. I had already paid so I might as well re write the whole dang thing and submit it! Good luck to the rest of y'all

That stinks. I think there is still at least an outside chance of getting an interview - who knows? Stranger things have certainly happened. Good luck!

Last year, they send out II's into November, so I wouldn't count yourself out at all!

My optimist side is definitely holding out hope for an interview here. My realist side started studying for the MCAT again last night. lol

II just now. They don't have any option to change the date.

Congrats! I hope that helps ease the stress of your day! I spent the night on the floor in DFW. It was a rough day for TX interviews.

I needed to get to DFW lol. I wished we could have traded places. I accidentally confirmed before I read the email carefully. I thought I would interview at Lubbock where Texas A and M is, but it's actually in Temple, which is 3 hours away from Houston and my UTMB is scheduled for the next day. :/ That's a lot of driving.

Does A&M have student hosts?

They do have hosts. The day ends pretty early I would say so you'll have time to drive down to UTMB (they also have student hosts). If you haven't been offered I would just email admissions--sometimes they don't send out the info in a timely fashion.
