2014-2015 The Commonwealth Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys, I just got this email. Good news, bad news, or what? I was really excited at first but then I typed interview waitlist into google and people seemed to think it was a hold email.
"I am pleased to inform you that the Admissions Committee has selected you for theinterview waitlist at The Commonwealth Medical College. If a candidate withdraws their application, and a space becomes available, you will be notified. Please note that this may occur with very little notice. As a policy, we cannot share a candidate’s position on the waitlist."

Just got the same email. Any news with you?

I'm pretty sure tcmc has filled it's interview slots for this year. It pretty much means if anyone cancels they'll pull from this list.

Any idea of the likelihood of that happening? They made it sound like its something to be proud of.

I know of someone who was pulled off the waitlist so it is a possibility but it might depend on where on the waitlist you were placed. There is still hope

So based on the pattern thats been going on the last two months are we thinking deferrals tomorrow, acceptances/rejections next week?

Yes actually. I got an interview the next day. But im oos, so not very optimistic about my chances
I'm also OOS and interviewing the end of this month. I don't think they would offer interviews to us as candidates if they were not seriously considering us for the entering class.

I sure hope so. Its just not very encouraging that only 27 out of the 326 OOS interviewees last year actually matriculated. I mean realistically, how many acceptances could they have given out?

Don't worry so much! You received an interview so you have a chance. Even in the OOS acceptance rate is low, someone has to be accepted, so have confidence in yourself!

You also have to consider that alot of people who are getting acceptances as OOS applicants probably have their own IS options which could have cost less. People may have just chosen other schools etc. We cant just jump to conclusions, last years stats dont necessarily dictate what is going to happen this year. When I interviewed there were way more OOS interviewees than I would have imagined.

Yeah. It's a new oos school that's quite pricy. I could see a lot of people accepting another offer if they have it.

I was told that they accept 280 students (100 matriculate).

Does anyone know how many acceptances have gone out already? I know they were interviewing around 800.

Hey guys,

I've been a lurker for a really long time, but I am posting for the first time as I am anxious to hear any news since being deferred on November...

From just looking at the current thread, it seems that the deferred dates so far have been exactly 4 weeks apart (10/15, 11/12, 12/10, 1/7).
Also, it seems that the acceptances follow the deferrals (10/15, 11/19, 12/12, and 1/13), and it takes 5 business days at the most (11/12-11/19).
Some guys who were accepted on 12/12 said that they had previously been deferred on October, but from the batch of acceptances on 1/13 no one posted anything about being previously deferred and then accepted.

So I wanted to ask few of questions:
  1. Did anyone get deferred last week? (Following the trend, I expected deferrals on 2/4, last Wednesday)
  2. Is there anyone deferred on November and later that heard any good news from TCMC recently?
  3. Lastly, Is there anyone accepted on 1/13 that have been previously deferred?
Thanks!

So based on what your saying we can imagine news either today or tomorrow? Unless an extra day is added because of their snow day yesterday.

Hey, I was deferred in November too and still waiting on a decision. I thought deferrals would go out last week as well but it seems they've had a snow day or two which may/ may not have affected their schedule. Just guessing.

Just got a deferral so looks like their schedule was messed up by snow days

Got deferred too 🙁(

Interviewed in JanuaryJanuary

Seems like there are a LOT of us in the deferred boat. I got deferred in October and haven't heard a peep since. I have to believe we are still being seriously considered - a handful of people got rejected post-interview.

I've heard that they defer a good number of people. They take their time to figure out who will make up their best class

I'm on the same boat. Just waiting patiently and hoping for the best!

Do you mind saying which date you interviewed in January? I did as well and I am trying to get an idea of when I might be hearing . . . Thank you!

hey peanutsnjuice,

Seems like you were right. If previous trend is to follow, some acceptances should be released by next Wednesday or earlier... It sucks that I have a big nonrefundable deposit due this weekend though...
I was hoping I would hear back by the end of this week too.. ugh

Have that many people actually been rejected post interview? I feel like I don't hear of that many. Which I understand can just be the nature of the issue. Thoughts?

Also deferred in December, 12/10 and anxiously awaiting an update. Best of luck to all of you doing the same. This school was great and I hope to see some of you in the fall.

Rejected pre-II. They talked about their MBS program in the email

Did anyone get a second look email? They posted something like "Check your email for your invitation to revisit day" on Facebook but I didn't get anything except a short message from a second year that had nothing to do with second look.

Yeah, I've gotten like 8 welcome emails over the last month, but nothing about a second look.

Do you guys know what's the requirement for matriculation regarding our last semester grades? Do we have to maintain a C on all classes (not the pre-req classes)? Or do we just have to pass and get the credits?

I would just say you wouldnt want to do anything that would raise any red flags. Even if you get in. It's a small school and I'm sure word amongst faculty would get around on who tanked their last semester.

You've worked hard to get into med school, the last thing you'd want to do now is do bad your last semester and be affected in a negative way.

Just put in an adequate amount of work and try to get A's and B's, but I highly doubt one C would be a problem.

Has anyone received the "interview waitlist" that hasn't gotten an II yet??

So just to update, the second look is April 11.

Also, I was told unofficially the coming curriculum change is most likely going to be a hybrid block/LIC model that is coming because of previous class feedback. I got this news unofficially, so don't hold me to it just yet.

Nope. It's on Saturday, 4/11.

Imagine going to Second Look on a Thursday, how random would that be
