Did anyone else have trouble with their 5512/base access form and have to go to the ID Office the morning of their visit? I interviewed before they started requiring them, and just got notice that my guest's wasn't able to be processed, so I'm trying to figure out exactly how early we're going to need to arrive on base to get that taken care of.

Looking forward to seeing some of you on Friday!

Had trouble with mine too. I was told that the forms have to be submitted in PDF format. I resubmitted mine and it went through okay (first time I sent in JPEG)

Waitlist letter today! Interviewed 1/22. Some of you have stated that you're on the AF or Navy waitlist, but my letter just states "primary waitlist" without any branch info. Did you have to contact admissions to find out your branch?

Congrats! I believe you are waitlisted for your top choice of branch.

The waiver process is entirely separate from the admissions decision, so you can receive an admissions decision prior to receiving a waiver. If you are accepted prior to receiving a waiver, however, you will not receive the unconditional acceptance until the waiver is approved.

From my experience, and the similar experiences of others on this thread, they seem to be averaging 6-8 weeks to process and decide on a waiver.

That depends on what the original disqualification was for. I'd say get anything you may remotely think you need to get a waiver approved. All I needed was a letter from a doctor endorsing me. But it took a bunch of phone calls and five months for it to be approved.

Whatever you put as your primary choice on the ranking sheet is the waitlist you are currently on

Also, random question, is any one on the wait list going to second look day? Or is that only for currently accepted students?

Pretty sure second look is also open to waitlisted students. At least it was last year...

I'm on the wait list and didn't get any kind of information about the Second Look...I'm pretty sure this one is for accepted students because I heard they have a second one in May or June for when us wait listers get accepted

Gotcha, thanks for the info!

Anyone go to second look day by chance? How was it?

Awesome, I'll be matriculating in the fall too did they share any new or particularly really useful info/ advice about officer training, finding housing, roommates, etc?

Concerning housing, they said a lot of houses will start to open up 2 months before our move in date in July. Also do not live too far away. They also said finding roommates would most likely occur during officer training. Hope that helps!

WAIVER APPROVED!! *happydance*

Helluva wait (6mos or 4mos depending on how you count) and was thisclose to losing all hope. Whew.

So I was looking at the Red Line that everyone keeps taking about, and it looks like the closest stop is on Rockville pike. Do students just hike east on Palmer Rd to get to campus, or am I missing something?

Congratulations!!

The nearest stop on the Red Line is Medical Center. I believe there is a shuttle that runs from the stop to campus, or it's about a 15-20 minute walk, depending on how fast you walk. One of the students at Second Look Day also said that the school is actively working to improve/increase the ease of transport from the Metro to campus to ensure more people are commuting that way, as parking continues to be tight on base.

Very happy for you! Hopefully I'll see you in the fall

Any advice from current students on where to live for a non-traditional student? I'm an active-duty Army Major with wife and three kids and I need a garage. I currently live down in Woodbridge, VA and work at Fort Belvoir but the commute to Bethesda is too long from here and takes a couple hours with traffic.

Also, has anyone else been in the situation where they are already living in the Greater Washington area when they are selected? I'm wondering if the Army will still consider it a PCS and pay for moving expenses.

Not a current student, but I live in the Bethesda area. Single family homes in the neighborhoods of Kensington, Silver Spring, and Wheaton seem to be popular for families of people who work at Walter Reed/USUHS and the National Institutes of Health (across the street from Walter Reed). I imagine that you could easily rent (or even buy if so inclined) a 3-4 bedroom home in those areas with your basic allowance for housing. The town of Gaithersburg is also an affordable option that may give you more space, but a long commute. Bethesda does offer plenty of houses, condos, and apartments for rent, and will be the closest to USUHS, but you'll pay more for the space you're getting.

If you're already military, perhaps consider renting in the Glen Haven military housing community, which is in Wheaton and about a 15 minute drive in morning traffic to USUHS. It's a fairly new complex, and I believe that some of the units have a garage. I know a couple with two kids who lived there, and they seemed quite happy with it.

If I get off the wait list we will have to meet up as newly demoted O1s. I'm currently an active Navy LCDR.

I'm right there with you brother. Hanging out on the Army waitlist but cautiously optimistic. I'm holding a seat at a civilian school at the moment but USU is my dream school. I'm going to have a demotion party over the summer and put my old butterbar back on.

I don't want to get your hopes too high, but I was waitlisted on the 10th and got the official "you're in" call on the 23rd. Hopefully you hear sooner than later!

I'm glad to see a bit of AF waitlist movement! Congratulations!

For those waitlisted, did your letter specifically say which waitlist your were placed on? Mine just said 'for a place in the incoming class.'

You are on the waitlist for whichever branch you put as your primary choice on the ranking sheet when you interviewed.

Hi everyone! I just had a quick question regarding medical status. If my status on dodmerb says: under dodmerb review. Does that mean that Usuhs is now reviewing my file? Does anyone know how long it takes to get from there to cleared?

For accepted students, if I have a GPA around 3.6 and finish this semester with a 3.2, is that going to jeopardize my acceptance here? I am just talking about A's and B's, no C's
I think not, unless you fail a required course.

Next Monday is the last meeting, so we should all hear by the end of next week I think!

Hey folks, I'm a graduate of usuhs. For anyone looking for a place, I know of a 3br/2ba ground floor condo about 10 min walk from the grovesnor metro station (1 stop north from med center). I think it's $2000/mo or thereabouts. PM me for more info! Good luck to those still waiting to hear!
Edit: didn't realize the interest this would get, will pass on the info, but looks like this specific condo got rented... That said, can pass on info to a realtor who helps with rentals like this one as well as home purchases in the area... And he's familiar with USUHS . Again, PM me if you'd like his contact info or you would like me to pass on your info to him.

Anyone have any idea what the married/single ratio looks like at USUHS? Maybe I'm getting an unrealistic impression from the FB group, but it seems like there are A LOT of married incoming students. I guess this is expected since USUHS seems a great option for people already with families, but still wondering as a single (female) student if I'll feel out of place!

I'm single too and in the accepted fb group, DC is a great place for singles and young professionals so I don't think we'll have too much to worry about

Col Saguil mentioned that a large number of students get married during/before their time at USU, I think he said it was around fifty percent? Whether that was fifty percent of the senior class or fifty percent of the whole school I don't know, but I don't think you will have issues. CRK23 is right, DC is a really fun place to be, especially if you are on the Red Line, plenty of young singles our age. From everyone I have spoken to, I have heard that the camaraderie at USU is second to none. Since it is a military school, I doubt you will ever feel lacking for friends or support. The military takes care of its own!

2:1 guy to girl ratio in the school...I think you ladies will be fine 🙂

and echoing you all, plenty of Capitol Hill interns, medical students, and lawyers to choose from a few stops away on the Red Line.

Fellow single female incoming M1. We can be friends!

As a female unless you don't want anything to do with any males in the military, I wouldn't worry about choices, or even just other singles to hang out.

As has been mentioned in addition to that you have plenty of other sources nearby. DC is very singles friendly. My guess is that what you are seeing from married people talking is all of the things they are worried about with moving their families. things that although important for the singles, are probably less at the forefront of your mind. Things like a house big enough for all their stuff and/or kids, school districts, support networks for spouses, etc.

Also unless USUHS is nothing like any other military unit I've been a part of, the married and single people are typically still very good about hanging out and including each other in events
