I think it's optional for a reason....otherwise they would have made it required.

Got one at UCLA but nothing here (OOS). Do they send pre-secondary rejections this early ?

I don't know for sure, but the way the section was introduced on the secondary made it sound like it may be a factor they take into consideration.

UCSF does not take this into consideration as far as the admissions process goes. Check out the Office of the Registrar's Nondiscrimination Policy. It's probably just for statistical analysis or the like.

Are you IS/OOS? Might have been screened out but you never know. I know last year I had a friend that got his secondaries later than most.

I guess they give out secondaries in groups with similar stats?

Do you think it's better to "expand" upon one of your activities like the prompt says? I feel like I am only going to sound redundant since I don't really have something NEW information to add. But I don't want to look lazy for leaving it just blank so I can try to expand on one of the activities that I wrote in my AMCAS... Any thoughts on how important this optional essay is???? Especially for someone with lower stats than their average matriculants...

If you have some things to say that you think truly make you a stronger applicant, this is the space for them- after all, you don't want to regret not saying something.

That being said, I don't think this would be the space to write a "why UCSF" essay.

Don't think it has to do with verification times from what I've seen thus far.
I'm basically in the same boat with interyeti, along with a handful of other posters with nearly identical stats, many of whom submitted their app very early.

ahh.. my working theory is that they look at both your stats when it was sent to them haha. Cause I was verified super early and only got my secondary yesterday with my below average stats while other people with higher stats got them earlier

I believe, it will always be a mystery lol. Maybe they really truly do it holistically. And there's nothing more to it haha
