I agree with what dopa-mean said. If there are no new grades or activities to update about, at least tell them why you would be a good fit for UMDSOM.
 
II yesterday. Looked at dates last night they had 2 dates in early feb and a few in march. Went to schedule today no February dates left but still had a few in march. They had an opening in January that was not available yesterday so scheduled myself for 1/28.

Interviewed mid-November and received the acceptance right before the holiday break. On the interview day they said to expect a reply in about 4-6 weeks, mine came in around 5.

Well I live in camden court apartments (Lombard x Howard). I had never lived in a city before either but I really like it. You can walk to class easily and to park a car it is about 175$ extra a month for a garage right across the street. I actually didn't bring one since you most likely wont be using it much. The only real issue is that Baltimore is a food desert and the closest supermarket is whole foods which is like two miles away. The way around this issue is safeway will deliver your groceries which is nice. There are people living in Fed Hill and they usually carpool or take the school shuttle in to school. When it comes to safety you are just going to have to use your brain. I would avoid being on campus late at night whenever possible but I have not had any problems with safety to this point.

Interviewed 12/3/14, contacted admissions office today and via e-mail they told me I was accepted; unsure I'm being goofed or this is the real deal. Recently changed address so maybe snail mail is taking a while, they said I should have a packet by the end of the week...... ANYWAY, I'm stoked. This is one of my top choices.

Im considering living in Camden Court apartments this coming semester. Do you think it's relatively affordable? I heard utilities are extremely expensive over the winter... How do you say it ranks up against neighboring apartments ex. Zenith, Fayette Square, Redwood?

Well I live in a three person apartment in Camden and electricity does get pricey in the winter probably about 250 when it's really cold. we do save some money when it is a little more friendly outside. I would say that Redwood is similar based on friends living there. I have no clue about Fayette square and I know that several ravens/ orioles live in Zenith during their seasons. That is to say Zenith is the most expensive apartment building in the area. As far as affordable I pay 760 or so in rent plus the electricity and cable so it is what it is. It's convenient to live close to campus and a quick uber ride to anywhere your classmates will want to meet for drinks.

Roommates are on you for redwood, camden, and zenith I believe Fayette has a roommate matching thing. I would suggest posting on your classes facebook page to find one (Maybe someone could make a google doc with a bunch of questions like opinions on guests, study habits, sleep habits, pets, smoking/drinking, etc) When I was looking camden was the cheapest but rates do change. Redwood and Camden are literally back to back which is cool because you will have friends in both. Fayette is closer to the school and in my opinion in less nice area, to be blunt it's more ghetto. As far as safety all are in the same basic area of downtown baltimore so you will need to exercise caution but I wouldn't let that scare you away. And these apartments are not student apartments so in mine I would say the majority are Nursing/Medstud/dental/Pt stud/ Doctor/ Nurse/ Etc. So the people are all professionals, students or families. It is a nice environment not like a dorm with puke out in the hallways. Whichever apartment you choose rest assured there will be other medical students there.

Oh yeah I don't know of any apartments that include parking in the price of the rent but 175 is about what you can expect to pay. You can find ones for around 100 a month but those garages are over by lexington market and known for break ins. I have a newish car and elected to leave it at home. Unless you have circumstances in which you need to go somewhere often, most people find that they do not touch their car most days. Only challenging part is groceries since downtown is a food desert but like I said I found ways around that. You're going to find that Uber and Lyft are your friends over here!
 
For accepted students, did you receive any sort of confirmation after mailing in the signed forms?

Maryland typically does not do a second look. Id be surprised to hear that they started this year.

Second look is a program a lot of medical schools put on for accepted students to come back to the school and check it out a second time before they make their decision on which school they will go to (Provided they have multiple acceptances). Usually they go back over financial aid, curriculum, student life... etc similar to what they do in the interview.

Does anyone know how Maryland notifies applicants of their decisions?

Is it email, snail mail or phone?

Relax, come with questions. If you did research try to emphasize it in your interview maryland is big on research and you will have to do it at some point before graduation. It is also helpful to make a list of things you want to get across that way at the end of the interview when they ask if there is anything else you want to add you can talk about that. Also, we like to make one of your interviews with a student and in many ways they will put more emphasis in this one because people will let their guard down when talking to someone their own age. Keep it in your mind that you are still in an interview and in this one they are specifically trying to see if you are a fit for their school. Be yourself and good luck!
 
He made me justify wanting to be a doctor because of my gender, suggested alternate careers so I could focus on having babies, and kept saying "you realize this will be hard on your family right?"

Oh dang sorry about that hope It's not your view of all of UMD. I would say anonymous letter would be your safest bet or you could call and not give a name or wait until you have your decision?
 
For those who have interviewed already: has anyone been able to stay with a student host? I emailed admissions with my request as instructed, but I haven't heard back. I just want to know if I should keep my hotel reservation. Thanks!
