2014-2015 University of Maryland Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anybody else still heard nothing at all? I'm basically 100% sure that interviews are over. But I didn't think that UMD was a silent rejection school.

Received my financial aid package yesterday, not sure if this is the case for everyone
if you don't mind me asking, did you receive something in the mail or was something updated onto your SURFS account?

I was wondering: does anyone know if it's necessary to have a car for the third and fourth year for clerkships? From what I understand, it's not necessary for the first two years. I'm trying to figure out the cost of attendance--the cost of a car is not included, right? They just factor in costs for parking? Thank you!

I received an update on my surfs account
gotcha, thank you so much! did you have to provide any additional supporting documents before your award was posted by any chance? I had to bring in a document, which I did just last Friday so maybe that's why mine hasn't been posted yet.

They didn't ask me for any supporting documents. Also, I would like to note that my "award" was abysmal lol

Does anyone know if this financial aid package is all that is given, or if more will be sent as it becomes available?

I think that's all that's given unless they give out more merit scholarships later?

Does anyone know when UMD stops interviewing? Have they stopped yet?

interviewed 3/11 waitlisted. I am so bummed I want to cry. This was my number one choice, and I know from previous posts that there is little to no movement on their waitlist.

Does anyone know when/how often the committee meets to make decisions on applicants?

Edit: I mean post-interview decisions

Chin up, my sister goes there now and knows plenty of people who got in off the wait list.It varies by year so you can't really tell what it'll be like this cycle. Send your updates and express your undying love for the school. It's not over till it's really over and you've come this far so you might as well keep working at it.

I got off the waitlist in early June last year after I thought I was done for! It's not over till they give a firm no!

I got the official rejection letter in the mail yesterday. 🙁
Good luck to you guys!

Do they send something through mail for the financial aid package or do we need to register and accept our attendance to find out?

Thanks so much I will do that!

Ditto, I had to mail in supporting documents because I don't live in Baltimore, but they didn't process them yet I guess. My award (if any) hasn't been posted yet.

Happy Easter!!!

I emailed the admissions office last week with an update and didn't get a reply confirming that they received my email. Anyone experience the same thing? I sent updates before and they've always replied back. Not sure if they're just backlogged

I'm also at almost 6 weeks with no decision here. Glad I'm not the only one.

who did yall send your letter of Interest/updates to ? Dean Foxwell? Office of Admissions?

Does anyone know if it's possible to get instate classification after a year? or know anyone who has done it?

For applying for instate residency status, does anybody know how parental contributions impact residency petitions? If that contribution does hurt my petition for residency, does anybody where that threshold is? I read somewhere that it's 50%, but does anybody know if that's true?

I interviewed at Maryland on March 3rd, and I received the acceptance package in the mail on April 6th. What was weird was that the acceptance letter was dated March 30th, so it took a full week for them to mail me the acceptance.

Congrats! Do you live far away out of state? Because if so maybe it just took a week to get to you. If you're in-state I can't imagine it taking longer than 2 days though.

I am in-state and mine took four days to arrive.

when did you interview and when did you waitlisted?!
Interviewed in November and I think I was WL in December.

I was at work when I got the call and half zoned out. Hopefully I'm not just imagining that she said I got in, in which case I'd be giving you guys any unnecessary stress lol. Pretty sure it actually happened though.

Anyone know if they accept letters of intent? Also its nice to know that there is movement off the waitlist.

Does anyone remember if at the interview they said to contact them after a certain number of weeks if we haven't heard anything? I know some schools said to do so but I can't remember if Maryland did.

I interviewed in mid February and I just heard back this week (admitted). Sometimes it just takes a while.

Just rescinded my acceptance to Maryland. Very sad to do so as I absolutely loved this program, however it is just way way too expensive for an OOS student and the financial aid package wasn't great. Hoping the spot goes to one of you! Looking forward to being colleagues someday!
