2014-2015 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Withdrew here this afternoon. I really liked the school and obviously location but money talks! Good luck to those on the WL!

I feel like I'm dominating this thread rn, but did you send an email to the regular address or did you withdraw via the student center? For some reason, my student center wouldn't let me complete the withdrawal process :/

Same!! It's like they don't want you to. I emailed and got a speedy response that it was received. Congrats on deciding!

Ah okay! Thanks! I was apprehensive about emailing since it seems like they have a slow turn-around sometimes. Almost there!

A joke. The student center has an option to decline acceptance. It asks why you're not attending in a drop down menu but there are no choices so it doesn't let you complete it or at least that's what happened to me.
Oh. Maybe that drop-down menu being blank is a technical error?

@ConsultantMD @womanofscience @Ace Khalifa Had the same issue, but trying to accept/pay deposit. The Dean emailed me and informed me that the option on the student center is not functionally (purely ornamental), and everything should just be emailed/sent in snail mail (if deposit)!

That's good to know. I'm still on the waitlist lol, but I'll remember this for the future!

So did you mail in your deposit? I guess I will mail mine in tomorrow we have until may 15 right? Did you use this address:

P.O. Box 016159 (R-159)
Miami, FL 33101

Deposit/Mail Address info here: http://www.mededu.miami.edu/Admissions/Deposit.htm

Yeah I would mail it in right when you know you are definitely attending! I sent mine last Tuesday and they received it yesterday!

"Please don't be at the bottom of the waitlist. Please don't be at the bottom of the waitlist. Please don't be at the bottom of the waitlist." - me all day and for the next month.

For those of you looking for housing, I am a rising 3rd year in the MD program and am looking for another roommate (preferably a guy) to fill a 3 BD/2 BR in Brickell. The unit is fully furnished, and lease starts June 20 so this would be perfect timing for incoming MD/MPHers. Please PM me for more details if you are interested.

So is there anything else we have to do to accept our acceptance besides withdraw from other schools and send the tuition deposit?

+1...MD/MPH off the waitlist! To everyone still waiting - keep your heads up, there's hope
I hope that one of these was my spot! I withdrew a little bit earlier today. So excited for y'all!! Miami's second look weekend was awesome. A different school was a better fit for me, but I'll be a more than a little bit jealous come winter when you are chilling on the beach!

(If so, sorry I waited so long. Had to wait for a delayed financial aid package.)

Withdrew yesterday. Hope someone snatches up my spot!

Wow so the decisions come either early in the morning or late at night. Congrats to all those recently accepted! I have renewed hope for the future!

I'm surprised that UM is having so much movement. Congratulations to everyone accepted so far! I really hope that there will be a spot for me... UM has been my dream school since 9th grade! 😍

Hey everyone

Congratz on everyone who've been accepted. I am interested in applying to Miami next cycle but I am worried that my MCAT is too low 30 (10/10/10). Did anyone get in with a 30 MCAT?

Gpa is 3.8 too and holding all else equal. ..

TYVM

Go for it. A 30 is solid especially when paired with a 3.8 GPA!

Although I appreciate your optimism, my jaws dropped when I saw that the average was between 33 and 34 though... regardless wish me luck the coming cycle....
Average implies that there are scores both above and below. If you have msar it will tell you what the 10th percentile score is for each school. It is a general rule that if your mcat is above the 10th percentile and your GPA is around or above the median, and the other aspects of your application are good then you are safe applying at that particular school. I'm not certain what miami's 10th percentile mcat score is but I'm almost positive 30 is above it. Have confidence in yourself.

I actually just checked MSAR a 30 is exactly the 10th percentile.

MCAT isn't everything and standard deviations are usually several points. Within 1 SD of the mean is still in the bell curve. People end up on the alternate list for various reasons unbeknownst to them, so don't obsess and stay cautiously optimistic.

I agree that a 30 is a solid score, and I also believe Miami looks beyond just your MCAT. I was above their "average" with a 3.8/37, barely received an interview, and ended up on the waitlist. If you're confident in the rest of your application and think you could be a good fit go for it! Especially if you'll regret not giving yourself a chance.
