This is quite strange. At my interview day, 12/12, Dr. Patel told us that we were "guaranteed a response within 6 to 8 weeks." What do you make of all this?

Don't over think it. What I've learned from several years' experience with trying to make stuff happen at the U is that it always takes longer than they say it will.
 
Anyone know if Is there a student host program available for people interviewing. Recently got an invite for early feb but none of the information provided seems to indicate anything like this is set up.

There is not, unfortunately. If I have the good fortune of attending this fine medical school next year, I will make the suggestion that a student host program be implemented, however.

So then, is there any reason that the commons is $70 better than the days inn (keeping in mind my plane ticket is already absurdly expensive, for some reason MSP is super expensive to fly to from my hometown)?

I used airbnb and found a place that was near campus and quite inexpensive. I suggest doing so both for economic sensibility and it will give you the opportunity to really experience the community. I loved it.

Yes. The Commons is nicer than the Days Inn, and right on campus. Look at the websites and you can see why the commons is more expensive. It probably wouldn't be worth you spending the extra money just to stay at a nicer hotel, but that's really up to you.

You could also stay at a hotel anywhere along the light rail system too, giving you more options.

well just got wait listed... if it doesn't say high priority wait list should I assume that means there's no hope left?

When did you interview? When did you receive notice and was it an email or through the portal

To the best of my knowledge only the Duluth campus has categories for their wait list. The other people I know who were wait listed at Twin Cities just got regular wait listed. Don't write yourself off yet until you at least know your wait list number which I think comes out in March or April.
 
I have an interview on Monday Feb. 16th, anyone else interviewing this day??? Or this late lol?
 
Just received a still under review email from Dr. Patel. It references that some people have exceeded the 8 week window. I haven't yet, but my 8 week date will be this Friday. Anything to infer from the duration it's taking? As in perhaps I've been passed over at least once and that reflects negatively on my chances, or perhaps they are just behind and haven't gotten to discuss my case yet? Here is the email.

Dear Applicant,

Thank you again for interviewing at the University of Minnesota Medical School Twin Cities. I wanted to write to let you know your application is still under review. I realize for someone of you we have gone beyond the 8 week decision deadline and I am very sorry about that. Our committee is working hard to get all decisions out in a timely manner. I appreciate your patience with our process; please let me know if you have any questions.

The way the email sounds, that they are just taking a little longer than they expected to get back to people. Unfortunately, I was in the same interview day as you and I didn't get that email from Dimple, so I'm not sure what that means for my application

Rejection email today 🙁. Interviewed 11/14.
 
Accepted at Duluth today. Interviewed mid November. Already accepted to Twin cities... Any thoughts on how to decide between the two campuses?
 
Wait listed. The waiting has been maddening and apparently continues. Not sure what sort of odds I have of coming off the wait list to accepted.

Last year I think there was some movement. It really all depends on the amount of students who keep their acceptances. Keep hope! Are you sitting on any other acceptances yet?

not currently, only if you're on the alternate list which comes in May, are you ranked. It is ridiculous to wait this long to be told to wait some more. Not pleased at how the admissions office is managing this cycle.

App season goes through April, but people have until April 30th I think to accept.A buddy of mine was accepted off the wait list mid-May last year.

I get that it can go on until almost August. But the email says once everyone has been interviewed and evaluated that we will then be notified. Trying to figure out if I wi hear anything before May. Email said no later than May 15.

Also, do you know If TONS of people are on wait list and not too many out right rejected or if being on wait list does actually mean you've still got a solid shot at this point.
 
Just going off what I have read and heard from others.

I know in some years up to 70-80ish offers of acceptance were withdrawn. The timing of those withdraws is uncertain so it is unclear if those seats went to someone on the wait list or were simply correcting overflow. I have seen the wait list in previous years vary greatly according to SDN. One person in the 2012-2013 cycle stated they were ranked 155 so the wait list can clearly go very high. It seems some years they may pull people off the wait list before officially releasing the ranked list which muddles the actual wait list acceptance numbers.

Previous threads seem to indicate rankings come out sometime in mid to late April. Given the new traffic rules this year the wait list will start to move earlier this year due to the new drop deadline being April 30th.

The Admissions teams on the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses have been working tirelessly to recruit and admit an excellent Class of 2019. We'd like to give a big shout-out to all of the folks (faculty, staff, and students) who have been involved in making this happen; thanks so much for all of your hard work! To better understand the huge task of recruiting and admitting just one class at the Medical School, here the numbers (so far!) this year:

Duluth Admissions:
>1600 applications
125 applicants have been interviewed to date (with a couple more months of interviews left)
56 letters of acceptance have gone out (for a total class of 60)

Twin Cities Admissions:
4000 applications
600 interviews have been offered to date (with 2 more months of interviews left)
170 letters of acceptance have gone out (for a total class of 170)

So at least 170 have gone out.

zero idea. i dont even know when interview season is over and if it's even worth holding out hope of coming off the wait list. I'm super disappointed in the lack of transparency and communication by this medical school. I like so many things about the school, but these things aren't good.

Minnesota isn't significantly different than any other medical school in regards to transparency and communication. If anything, they are more communicative and transparent than many...

probably just my particular experience this year then, comparing it with the other schools I've been dealing with.

Any current students have an opinion on living situations while in medical school? I'm considering finding a single/studio apartment on campus, but not sure if it's worth the cost as compared to finding roommates.

Interviewed last Friday and Dimple said their relative class size is 160 but as of Friday they have surpassed 160 acceptances and will continue to send out acceptances until the end of the cycle. because of course like most school, not everyone who is accepted ends up going to the school.
