2014-2015 University of Missouri - Columbia Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
"Dear Applicant,

The University of Missouri School of Medicine wishes to inform you that your application file is complete. Invitation to interview is pending Committee review. Committe review will not begin until mid September. Interviews are conducted October through February."

So the wait begins...

Did anyone else have a problem with the essay section messing up formatting? It condensed all my paragraphs into one long stream-of-conscious-like paragraph. Unfortunately, this was only evident AFTER submitting....ugh.

Ah, so you're saying there was no rush to finish this secondary? Well then...

Now they tell us. >.< Maybe it's due to the fact that they have to wait for 2,000 snail mail checks :poke:

When did you mail in your form and check, if I may ask?

Don't know if this means anything, but the email I got didn't mention that Committee review wouldn't be until Sept....

Received the "complete" email. I sent in my check by mail yesterday.

I'm OOS and sent in my OOS form. I received an email back telling me they would continue reviewing my application once my MCAT scores were in, which they should be next week. Just wondering if that's a good thing? I wasn't sure if they rejected OOS students without a complete application or if that's just a standard response?

Would it be considered poorly if I wrote a very short essay for the optional one about family connection to Mizzou? I feel like talking about curriculum is almost unnecessary since its my IS school

I submitted mine last week, haven't paid yet. I'm IS, have above 30 mcat and above 3.5 gpa. My only worry now is that i retook mcat last week, and felt like i might have done worse than my first attempt. Hoping everything works out fine, MU is definitely my dream school. I wish everyone good luck this cycle and hopefully see you next year at University of Missouri!!

First let me express extreme surprise at this:

Rejected today OOS with family ties to Missouri (dad grew up here and lots of extended family still lives there)

cGPA: 3.36
sGPA: 3.59
Post-Bacc: 3.99 (all pre-reqs)
MCAT: 35

Pretty bummed I didn't even get a secondary. I would have really liked to go here. Good luck to everyone else!

Sorry that you didn't even get a secondary!!
...

I'm taking the MCAT this Saturday!! I've scored 28-34 on my practice MCATs, with an AAMC average of 31,,, Still haven't submitted AMCAS yet either!!

After my MCAT this Saturday I hope to submit next week. My only hope is that as others have mentioned the committee doesn't even meet until September, so here's hoping a late submission to AMCAS and average MCAT will get me an interview...

Thanks, I'm hoping I'll have better luck at the other schools I applied to =). If you are going to be submitting your AMCAS before you get your MCAT score back, you might as well do it now. I think the verification process take a few weeks at this point!

Could someone provide some clarification for me regarding the secondary process. I received the OOS applicant more info sheet thing (residency in contiguous state ftw). It seems that the form needs to be returned via snail mail, is that correct? For those of you who filled out the sheet, how did you structure your responses, just as individual essays or all as one continuous response?

Lastly, is this sheet different from another secondary that comes later if they are willing to consider me?

Thanks

EDIT: I re-read the instructions and now see it says the form can be emailed back. My question was originally based on seeing someone else in this thread mention needing stamps.

Question: I am OOS, but in a state that Mizzou recognizes as contiguous. That being said, I am wondering whether or not I should fill out the additional information essay. Will it hurt me if I don't?

1. I am an OOS (But went to a MO state school), and I haven't gotten this OOS form that everyone is talking about. What is it?

2. My complete email also did not mention anything about a "September" Committee review, interesting.

I am in the same boat.

The secondary app directs me to mail in my $75 application fee. However, the very bottom of this page says the fee is waived for FAP (Fee Assistance Program) applicants. I e-mailed them for clarification and will update when I hear back.

"Please send in your secondary application summary page along with your fee waiver approval email from AMCAS. Thanks!"

I guess there aren't very many FAP applicants out there...

Well, I didn't see that at the bottom of the page... Definitely not going to get that 75 back 🙁

It took a bit of digging on Google to find it... the only school not completely waiving the app fee has been Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX; they reduced it by 50%... Texas really does have their own little thing going on down there.

My AMCAS was finally verified. Submitted on 8/1. I just received an OOS "prove your ties" form. I didn't think I had to fill one out since I'm from a contiguous state :/ bummer. Hoping they will give me a chance and send me a secondary!

That's odd. I'm from a contiguous state, and I didn't have to fill one out.

Yeah, I'm really confused as to why I received one. I'm from a state they have listed as contiguous. Do they have a minimum GPA? Maybe I didn't meet the mark for that? I don't have my MCAT score back yet so it's not that.

Do you think I should email them and ask about it or just suck it up and fill it out?

They do have a higher minimum GPA and MCAT for contiguous state people than in-state people. I don't recall what it is offhand; I'm sorry. They have been responsive to me by email if you want to try that.

Now I'm thoroughly confused because I emailed them asking what the minimums are and they said they don't have a minimum GPA, just a minimum of 21 on the MCAT to be considered. I was expecting to get an email saying they had gotten my app but would be waiting to review it once my MCAT score was in.

Not sure what to do now. I think it would come off as rude if I asked them why I got the OOS form if I'm from a contiguous state. But I also don't want to be rejected pre secondary, would be nice to at lease have a shot at the secondary. Shoot.

Yep, I live in one of the listed contiguous states. I would think they would have a minimum GPA too. Hmmm. Strange. Thanks for replying to me!
Of course. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I do think it's worth shooting them an email asking if the form was sent by mistake given your state of residence... I can't see them saying "You asked a question? Rejected."

Question: Verified on Monday, still no secondary link sent, is this normal? I have a low cGPA and waiting for my MCAT score to be released next week.

OOS form submitted. I don't have what they would consider an exceptional GPA and I have no Missouri ties. Hoping I made a compelling argument for a chance at the secondary.

@cb13076 , just wondering if you ended up getting a secondary? I'm in the same boat, submitted my OOS form without my MCAT scores in yet. Won't get them til September 16th. I'm wondering if I'll get that same response or if they would reject without having my scores.

I still don't have my scores in. I get them next Tuesday, so I'll let you know.

II while on my way to a different interview lulz. 3.7+/36, OOS. Complete 7/24.

Interview Invite!!! I am ecstatic!!!! 🙂 Oct. 22nd!! 🙂

I thought based on an earlier post the AdCom didn't meet until MID-September 😳

I am waiting on submitting my secondary until getting my "professional" photo done this weekend...I wonder if these few days would have made the difference...

Congrats to everyone who has received interview invites!! That's so awesome!

For those who had to submit the OOS form, how long after you sent it in did they let you know they received it? I sent mine to them yesterday and figured I would get an email today saying they got it, but I haven't heard anything...

Did anyone else try to respond and confirm the email? I got an automatic email response that said the inbox would not be checked until sept 22.

That's weird. I emailed them around noon CST and got a human who answered me. But I also had to change dates.

This happened to me too. I am gonna call tomorrow.

Can you let us know what they say?

The lady I spoke with said that I received the email because one of the ladies is going to be gone for two weeks; however, there is another lady who will be checking that account but she is out sick today. She said I will receive a email response next week.

II today!

Has anyone received a response yet from the e-mail account? I need to reschedule the date they provided...
