I know it's all speculation... being a match heavy school, why does UTH prematch some over others?

They really like you or the Deans of Admissions see potential I'm guessing (At least that's what we tell ourselves).

I clicked on the FB page link just to get an idea of how many pre-matches were sent out. The class is 240 and there's already over 200 people in the group.
So were there actually this many pre-matches sent out or did people just join the group to look at information? Houston is my top choice, just don't like the idea of only 30 spaces being open!

if you look at a lot of those members, they are class of 2018 that have joined to probably just to look at new class members. the UTH class of 2018 Facebook page has 572 members...

Just like IQ2US said, its mostly MS1's/MS2's right now. We like to hang out in the classes beneath us for advice and general curiosity (plus, facebook groups just acquire random people. The MS2 page is still getting people joining, but none of them actually go to med school. I think they're fake accounts or something? It perpetually confuses me.)

We're excited about you folks coming to UTH too! There are still the vast majority of spots that are not filled by pre-matches.

In state. No interview. I suspected last week that since I hadn't heard anything....even though it was one of my top choices...actually was my top, it's okay. I've had two TX interviews so hopefully some good news on match day 🙂

I checked my email from last year, they sent theirs out around 11 AM. This was my top school, severely disappointed.

Literally just made an account because I'm confused and don't know what to do: didn't get a match offer, I'm IS and had an interview. Does this basically mean "no". Because they say the stuff about rolling admission afterwards but that doesn't seem very believable.

I'm in the same boat. I had 4 interviews and no match... but apparently you're not just put on the waitlist automatically, they said you will be invited to join the waitlist at a later date

I interviewed at UTHealth, Texas A&M, Texas Tech-Lubbock, and TCOM. Undergrad 3.7, Graduate 4.0, and 28 mcat.

I just called now and she said as long as you interviewed at the school you are automatically put on the waitlist 🙂 so there's that. Still feel hopeless :'(

Very much feel you. Got a sorry you haven't been matched with a 3.9 GPA and 33 MCAT and I thought my interview here went really well. Tho I also applied like mid-late September because despite being a texas resident I attend a Canadian university so I was unaware medical school admission in the states was rolling admission :/

Not sure if that matters as much as everyone makes it seem. I applied in May, invited in August, and interviewed in September

Wow for some reason I just saw this. As stated above I have a 3.9 GPA, 33 MCAT, but I applied very late to all schools as I found out rolling admission was a thing in like September. I only interviewed at UTHealth and an OOS school (university of Iowa which said no to me 🙁 ). I interviewed at UTH on November 14th

Hey all! Im a 2nd year at UTH and I just wanted to say Congrats to everyone who matched here today! We are excited to have you as a new part of our family!

For anyone who did not match, try your best to stay calm and optimistic. Quite a few students, myself included, in each year's class come from the waitlist.

Someone asked how the waitlist works. As long as you did not match to a school that you ranked higher than UT Houston (and you interviewed here of course), then you are placed on our wait list. Everyone who matched at a school that they ranked higher than UT Houston has been withdrawn from consideration, so you're no longer competing against them for a spot.

If I remember correctly UT Houston is not very forthcoming with how exactly they go about filling the class from the waitlist. So I don't know if they rank their waitlist and then just pull the highest spots as spaces become available or if they attempt to replace someone who turns down their acceptance with an applicant that is very similar to them.

I am available to answer any questions that anyone may have. I don't check the thread all that often so please feel free to shoot me a message so I don't miss your question and hopefully I can be of some help. Good luck everyone!

Honestly I'm not 100% sure. I've always associated the match strictly with IS, though im sure it's possible some OOS acceptances could've gone out.

Finally got the waitlist email. It's a ranked list and I'm not sure if that should calm me or worry me lol. Welp now all there is left to do is more waiting! Kinda makes things exciting...at least that's how I'm approaching it!
