2014-2015 Virginia Commonwealth University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've had this status since 10/2 and i haven't been able to sleep past 6AM PST because i wake up every morning wanting to open up my email! GAHH anyone else in a similar boat but with better news?

"The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible if we have an adequate number of interview slots. Please anticipate an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date"

I had that status for about 3 weeks before finally getting an II. I'm sure it will be there any day now!

Anyone in Richmond tonight and want to grab dinner later?

I'm not in RVA, but the night before my interview, I ate at the Capital Ale House downtown. It was really good, would definitely recommend it!

Also is there a group for accepted students. I know there is supposedly a forum somewhere under housing and transportation but I can't seem to find it.

I would love to know this info as well

Did anyone get this status update?

The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview, you will be notified by e-mail in March.

Is this just a nicer way of saying that I'm on pre-interview hold? So confused of this cryptic message!

It is a pre interview hold; However, you could still be given an interview. I got this status, an II shortly thereafter and was admitted in the first release of acceptances. Just try to be patient.

+1 on the capital ale house. Good food and great beer selection.

Congrats! I didn't make the first round of acceptances unfortunately.

Also I hear there's an Irish pub near Cap Ale that's supposed to be good.

Thanks! Waiting is definitely tough. I sweated it out through most of last cycle to be placed on the WL.. I feel so honored to be given the opportunity to attend this go around.
I will definitely check it out!. Good luck in the upcoming months!

Hey everyone,

So I'm a OOS applicant and I was complete about 3 months ago in late July. I had two status changes in late Sept with one message of your file is now being reviewed by ad comm now or something to similar to that, then a second change back to the original message saying that my file is complete and ad com will do a comprehensive review of my application.

I've been patiently waiting for a month now. Any thoughts of what to do and what my situation means? Maybe they reviewed my application and then put me back in the "maybe" pile?

Try not to read anything into these updates. I know its frustrating but it is the ad com that really should respond to why they have circular updates. Not fair to applicants who are clearly hanging on every word trying to pick up a hidden message. Not what the process should be about Updates should be just that, straightforward, timely, informative and accurate. If not... Then don't change status at all...just sayin

I understand that as an applicant the multitude of statuses VCU has can be frustrating but I'll try to shed a little light on the matter. File reviews are done via a computer based system, as probably most programs use some iteration of as well. I'm assuming when a reviewer receives your file for review an automatic status somewhere along the lines of "your file is now being reviewed" gets sent to you. Sometimes, the reviewer that initially got your application, is unable to review it (for various reasons), and it gets sent back to be reviewed by someone else. When this happens you may get another update ie. "the original message" that has been mentioned.

This is the most likely explanation but in no way do I 100% know what's going on, so take it with a grain of salt. I can however tell you that I do know more about the process than most other students at VCU.

Hope this helps ease the confusion a little bit.

Rejection this morning! Had "May" status since late July. OOS, LizzyM ~67.
Oh well, good luck to the rest of y'all!

Rejected also after getting the may status in August. LizzyM 72-73.

I still don't understand how people with supposedly 'worse' statuses have gotten II's but those of us with the may or very interested update haven't...oh well. So long, VCU.

After receiving the MAY status on AUGUST 10, I just got an II!!!!! I had given up hope. Guess this goes to show that the May status can mean almost anything!

Scheduled my interview for late November. Pumped!!!

did u check your status or was it an email? congrats!

There appears to be no logic or reasoning to their method. You can go crazy trying to find the subliminal messages in the status

can anyone talk about the nature of the interview for us who are interviewing in a bit? ethics heavy? healthcare system oriented? laid-back?

After submitting my application about 6 weeks ago, I just received a secondary now. Does anyone know where VCU is in the process of handing out interview dates? Any advice on whether it would be wise to apply?

Thanks 🙂

Same thing happened to me last week and I applied! I figure that they thought we were competitive enough at this point to extend a secondary invite and all the primary applications are already in.

Anyone who interviewed know about how long it took for them to put you on the post-interview hold? Still stuck on the survey status!

Look at the interview feedback. There is a pretty good sampling of questions listed. This should give you a decent idea of the nature of the interview. Know your amcas /ps /secondary well.
I had a great interview experience here (faculty interviewer).
It was conversational and put me at ease.

It took about 3-4 weeks for me.

Does anyone know if there's a facebook group for accepted students? Thanks!!

I haven't seen one... I don't think anyone's made one yet.

Lol after being complete in July I just got my status changed to the "Further" one. Thank you based John, I guess.

Did anyone receive the "hold" status today after interviewing??? I know people that got accepted the first round received the hold status so I'm kinda freaking out right now, but also not getting my hopes up.

I think everyone receives the hold status after the adcom meets to give your file a score. I don't believe it has any significance regarding acceptance vs. waitlist vs. rejection.

I interviewed early October and just got the hold status today.

Does anyone know if it's true that they'll reject you within 10 days after reviewing your file if you fall below a 3.5? I heard something like that during the information session before the tour, but could have completely misunderstood.

I don't remember hearing anything like that at all. I remember them saying they don't reject until after all rounds of acceptances have happened.

Hmm okay. I interviewed after the tour and everything, so maybe as my nerves were going up, my listening comprehension went way down haha

I remember hearing that they reject you if you're >3.5 too, and it was before the tour.

Has anybody received this sort of status? I saw the "May" statuses but never this one in the thread:
"The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision. Please continue to check this site in order to learn when further action has been taken."
That's the subcommittee status.

Just a question for those of you who have interviewed...do they send you a rejection notice 10 days after you are reviewed in committee if you are given a score of a 4 or a 5?

Same. Seems like there is no reasoning behind anything they do here. With so many possible status updates, we should have heard something by now.
Why do they feel it necessary to torture us with statuses that are impossible to figure out. The process is hard enough.

Has anyone who interviewed not received the post-interview survey? I haven't.
