finally got the MAY status. Complete 7/11

Can someone remind me what this implies in terms of all the multiple status VCU bombards us with?

Woooooo! 😀
A lot of people with "MAY" reported IIs a few days afterwards! IMHO, I think it's a very good status to have.

I have a 27 as well! Congrats, and thanks for giving me hope! Haha. I have a 3.8 cumulative GPA and good ECs. Probably going to call tomorrow and make sure my app didn't get lost in the chaos...

I have a lower GPA, so you may have a better chance lol when were you verified? If it was a while ago, I think you should call because it's doubtful you got screened out.

I got the "vcu has received your preliminary app..." Email July 8th. I called several weeks ago and the lady just said you need to wait basically and didn't look into anything. I'll call again tomorrow, hopefully didn't get screened out!

Highly doubt it, I'd honestly be super surprised. Since it's been a month, I think it's safe to call.

Anyone OOS'ers complete before 7/10 and still on complete with no status update? I submitted an inquiry a couple weeks ago via the help link on the online portal but didn't get a response. Should I call?
Same here ! Let me know what they say if you do call. Would appreciate it

I called recently. They said my file was complete and needed to be seen by A reviewer to determine the next step, wheter to interview or not.
So, I think the committee may have already reviewed our app/given it a priority score maybe, and then one person *cough john* determines what happens next.

I've gotten to the point that I check my application status so often that I practically ex out of the screen immediately after logging in because I'm so used to seeing the same thing over and over :bang:

Finally heard something after being complete 5 weeks ago, and all I get is: " Your file is complete and has been forwarded for review by an Admissions Committee Member."

It has been a long time since I have heard anything from this school. On 7/11 I got a status update that said:

Your M.D. file is now complete. The Admissions Committee will now do a comprehensive review of your application. Once the review is complete, your file will be prioritized, and interviews will be granted based on your priority score and the date your file was completed. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates. Please continue to read all paragraphs below...

Since then it hasn't changed.

I wonder what it means?

they haven't gotten around reviewing your app yet

This is really starting to annoy the crap outta me..complete since 7/10. I'm sure there are more competitive applicants compared to me, but at least review my app/reject me whatever! I need a status update!!!!!+pissed+

I found a picture of John at his desk. You can even see the untouched pile of applications! 😱

I am a reapplicant and the best advice I can offer is to try to get used to the waiting. I had three interviews last year (starting in October) and waited until March to find out I was on the waitlist at all three. I then had to wait through the summer wondering if I would be called.

My good friend heard nothing from any school until October and was then interviewed and accepted at 4 schools.

Waiting sucks, but it doesn't necessarily mean bad news. And there's not really anything you can do about it so stressing is pretty useless (although I understand that sometimes it's inevitable).

I am a reapplicant here as well. So I def know how it feels to wait for several months without hearing anything "good." I am just frustrated with the whole "submitting things early," when schools like these aren't even bothering to look at my app. Anyway, I will continue to wait for my status update like I have been..

That's what's killing me about turning your app in early. One school said "OOS will not be interviewed until November" OMG I won't know anything until October even though I turned my app in 2nd week of June and was verified by the 1st week of July, complete before August....UGH. The struggle is real lol

This process is not the best interest for both the school & the applicants. It does not have to be that way. WHY? There are many "creative but constructive way" to screen applicants. We can joke about it all we can. I suspect at the end of the day, it will negatively impact people look at VCU the coming years and will discourage many "great" OOS applicants to apply. Applying medical school in general is stressful and literally painful enough, to go through "THIS" is the last thing we need. My two cents opinion.

I understand that VCU has a different screening process, but I don't know the details or what all of this talk about John is. Can someone clue me in or give me a link to read up on how their screening is different?

To everyone still waiting to hear something, hang in there. News definitely comes when you least expect it. But I am interviewing October 9. Do you think this is too late to hear something when the first round of decisions comes out October 16? Will I have to wait til December?

Wondering this too

Based on how sluggish they are I highly doubt it

I'm now a "MAY" status, application complete on 8/1. OOS Non-trad, 3.67, 31. I am REALLY hoping that if I get that II it won't be for some time in February...

Looks like John is working this weekend, my status switched to 'further' (#3) this afternoon.

Unfortunately, this is the process that many medical schools follow. If you don't learn that now, you're gonna have a long year. Trust me I wish I could have changed it before I applied to 40 schools. I was complete here in September last year and didn't hear back for 4 months. Then got an interview, and still didn't hear anything for a month and a half, and then had to wait another 2 months to get accepted. Many waited more. And some schools I applied to never even formally rejected me. It's how the system has been, and yes, it sucks. There is no rhyme nor reason and trying to understand it only makes it harder. So, what ever you consider "THIS" is, I suggest you just just accept it. Or else let the schools know how you really feel and let us know how it goes. It could be worse, and if it was any easier, you wouldn't appreciate.

Yeah, I totally agree what you said.
This appears to be a trend more & more school adapted. The used to be 6 to 8 months application cycle (June to Feb) now stretch to year long one; and at the top, more & more school "seemed" apply the silent rejection strategy.

Everybody, hold on your boat.

When was the cycle 6-8 months?! I want to go to there

I was using wrong choice of words. I refer to when the application begins from June 1 to "in general" many people get where they would be at in terms of acceptance or rejection.

Anybody know if VCU requires you to complete a grad degree if you're currently enrolled as a grad student? Like many SMPs, mine has a required thesis component, but most students don't complete it until years later unless the med school they get into requires it.

Just got this update from VCU:

"Your file is complete, and has been forwarded to the Admissions Committee for further decison."

Uh, wat? I've been sitting on complete for over a month.

EDIT: Nvm, read thru the older pages of the thread. Looks like they're just now getting to my application.
