Wow! Those links help a ton!! My stats aren't high as you -- 33 + 3.74c/3.9s. Cornell is 1a/1b with Columbia for me. Good luck on the interview!
Thank you, and not to get all sappy, but I appreciate your faith in me 🙂 I hope you hear good news shortly, you have solid numbers yourself! :luck:

Does Cornell offer student hosts? My interview is the 15th and I couldn't find student host information anywhere in the emails

Yep they do. The first years just started orientation this week, so we haven't had much time to set those up with the admissions office... The MS2s start next week I believe. You should be able to get more info about hosting soon (though I believe from talking with people on interview day last year that you have to email them asking for a host first).

Also, congrats on the all the interview invites today! They are really rolling out!

Yeah, right now, the first years are still figuring their own stuff out and adjusting to life at medical school, so none of us have even been able to think about the interview season. But, I am sure once we get communication from the admissions office about hosting, plenty of us will be willing to put up our rooms. Give it time!

Congratulations on the IIs! Interviews day is pretty low key and straightforward, so don't stress it! Good luck. =]

What days are available for interviews? Will be interviewing at another school in late sept and hoping my in-the-area email to WCMC does the trick!

Does anyone know if other NYC schools (NYU/Sinai/Columbia) respond positively to in the area emails? Looking at plane tickets and it's going to be an expensive interview season! Thanks 🙂

I would be interested in hearing this too. Although I don't know how much it would help since I only applied to Cornell and Columbia and haven't gotten an II from the latter school yet...

I sent an ITA email to them not too long ago, and they seemed pretty friendly about it (probably because they specifically requested we send one if we are interviewing at other NYC schools!). Still no II, but I'm not giving up hope! Crossing my fingers it works out for you too 🙂

Normally interviews start around the second week of September and continue on into February. They interview on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, if I remember correctly.

Out of the three, Columbia is pretty receptive to in the area emails. In previous years, some applicants who sent in the area emails got interview invites within the next couple days. Besides those three, Einstein is also receptive.

Ugh. I live a couple blocks away from Columbia. Certainly don't have the advantage of "being in the area"...

II today. But I had a question for you guys. The dates in the email were all in September. However, I already have seven interviews scheduled in September. Given that Cornell is non-rolling, would it be acceptable/advisable to ask for a date in october?
Did they let you reschedule? I need to do the same 🙁

Can anyone comment on what it's like living in Cornell's first year dorms, and more widely, NYC as a whole.

I've been to the dorm for a party 6 years ago, it looked nice, normal, may appear to be small if you aren't used to NYC standard of living.
The experience of living in NYC is gonna be hard to generalize. Pretty much every kind of life styles on earth exits here. You probably will eventually develop a style and a perspective that's different from everybody else's. You're gonna walk a lot more, especially since Cornell is several avenues away from the nearest train station. You're looking at a city that's way more stressful, but way more vibrant. If you like shopping or food, regardless how weird your taste is, there will be something for you. Downside is the fact it can be very overwhelming, especially after a certain number of years. There is also a high female/male ratio, boys tend to report being surprised at how often they got ladies to buy drink for them.

Well, this is news to me, is it specific to Manhattan? Also, I see you've joined the penguin brigade 😛

They put me in Olin for a summer program there. Everyone has a single bedroom and shares a bathroom with a next-door neighbor (it's like suite-style). Overall, wasn't that bad (but beware of the community kitchen! prepare to get a mini-fridge lol)

Also, you need to check out Lasdon. Lol. Man, that place is NICE.

Edit: For clarification, the first-year students are housed in Olin Hall. Super good deal considering the location/convenience. Lasdon is mostly for M2's and above.

So, the first years largely live in Olin Hall - which is standard dorm-style single-rooms off of a hallway style living. The rooms aren't terribly large, but also aren't super constricting (like the Columbia rooms are). The rooms come equipped with a desk/shelf unit, a bookcase, a chest of drawers, a twin XL bed, some wall shelving, and a pretty decently sized closet. You can definitely fit a Full size bed in the the rooms and a Queen size bed is also very doable. Two rooms are connected by a bathroom that is shared between the two rooms - so definitely not hallway bathroom setup (again, like Columbia), but not private either. Approximately 85% of 1st years live in Olin.

It's not amazing housing (the wifi's a bit spotty), but it's not terrible either.

On the housing website, the rooms in Olin are described as being 9x11 feet, but they definitely seem much bigger than that. We also have a kitchen on each floor with two stoves in it and a small sitting area.

If you have a spouse/partner, you will be placed in a studio in Lasdon (if they still have housing left for you). One of the couples told me that if you want a 1 bedroom apartment in Lasdon, you need to have a kid and for a two bedroom, two kids. Apparently, our class has a large number of students with spouses/partners, so some people were left with "emergency housing" in Olin, which is basically an L shaped room with two beds and a private bathroom.

Lol @Mather2012, have you gotten your laptop tagged yet? I've been too lazy to go, so I've just been using my iPad for everything. 😛 Also, if any of you decide on coming here, apparently the tech people prefer that you have a Mac (it makes encrypting your laptop easier).

Does Cornell have a student hosting program?

Sent them an e-mail back on Friday and they responded that they'd forward my info to current students and see if anyone was willing to host. However, since many students are starting right around this time they said not to be surprised if no hosts were available (that also may be because my interview is ~1 week away).

Has anyone been able to get ahold of the Cornell Housing Office for Olin boarding? I've called and left a message several times, but have been unable to get ahold of anyone. 🙁

I got a hold of a live person but she said to call back in a week and that they probably wouldn't have any space :'(
