anyone else going to be here 12/11? It's my first interview and I'm starting to get nervous!
Thank you to those of you who have posted about what a great interview experience it was! Makes me feel better 🙂

^ I would love to do undergrad at Starfleet Academy. How did you manage that?!? Good luck during the interview; it was my first as well. Know your application, and you should do fine.

I have connections and a handy little timeship 😉 thanks for the advice!

Just accepted OOS! Interviewed 11/24

Congratulations!!!:highfive:
I know OOS acceptances are rare without a waitlist first, would you mind posting stats? And do you have any ties to WV?

Just withdrew my interview for the 19th, hope someone who wanted that date gets it, good luck everyone!

Thank you!
I took the MCAT twice this summer, last one was in September, 30. cGPA 3.97, sGPA 4.0. I do have extensive extracurriculars and more than 5000+ hours patient care hours as a paramedic in a busy urban service. No ties to the state.

I was accepted OOS non-waitlist with MCAT similar to yours, and I also had extensive patient care experience prior to applying. Perhaps WVU takes the patient care hours into more account than some other schools. I know they also look strongly for people who show a desire to work with rural and underserved communities. Last year another paramedic was accepted here OOS without being wait listed (he ended up choosing another school).

Having the previous experience, medical school will have more fun moments. That doesn't necessarily translate to grades, but I love sitting in class and having an aha moment of "so that's why that works!"

Congrats on the acceptance!

This is 100% just a theory, but I know in my class a number of people (maybe 6 or more) dropped out because they realized medicine wasn't for them. Perhaps looking for people with lots of patient experience is their way of trying to avoid that? The attrition rate at WVU is probably the weakest point so I wouldn't be surprised if it's something along those lines. In any event, congrats to all the acceptees! Hope to see you next August!

a word to the wise: if you plan on staying with a current student using med stay, treat your interaction and communications with your host as though the admissions committee gets a report, because if you are unprofessional and discourteous, they likely will.

Oh snap, now I'm curious haha

i'm surprised you didnt hear. an applicant was contacted repeatedly by their med stay host with no return communication at all, but did decide to pop on in at 11pm the night before the interview. ask our social chair for all the details, she can fill you in. 😉

Oh gosh that sounds horrible. I wouldn't have even been awake to let them in haha

Does anyone know what the turn around is for hearing back post-interview? (I interviewed on 12/3) My interviewer said that the committee meets every Tuesday, but I'm unsure if anyone has heard back in less than a week's time.

I'm pretty sure people have been hearing back pretty quickly, I'd think it's entirely possible you could hear back after this Tuesday, but if not definitely after next Tuesday, just guessing based on previous posters though.

My interview day was wonderful!! 🙂

For anyone who is curious, Dr. Hazard said they have filled about half of their seats at this point.

Keep in mind, though, that until May, no one has to declare their school. A lot of people with multiple acceptances wait until then to decline acceptance to their non first choice schools.

Don't worry wait list, there's still a good chance until May/June.

Good point. I interpreted her statement as meaning they had sent out about half of their initial acceptances for the cycle, (For those that are accepted immediately with no wait list). There will of course be more acceptances with wait list movement in May.

I'm really excited for the Med Stay! what have your experiences been like?

also, would it be appropriate to bring a little gift for our host?

I did. I got mine a $10-15 gift card to one of the restaurants in town. They saved me from paying for a hotel, and their info and advice was invaluable.

Congrats! I'm also OOS (living in NY) and recently got waitlisted. May I ask if you have any WV ties or something you felt really connected you with the program?

I don't have any ties with WV. I really connected with the overall vibe of the school; I liked how it is community oriented
I wish you the best of luck and hope you get accepted!!!!

To anyone who has interviewed already--Is there much walking outside on Interview Day? It's supposed to snow 4-6 inches between tomorrow morning and my interview and I'm worried about walking in the snow/ice in heels!

Not a lot. Just briefly over to the hospital, which isn't too far. A short walk on the sidewalk.

Are acceptances mailed out via snail mail or do you get some sort of confirmation through email or an online portal? I interviewed on 12/3 but because my interviewer had a family emergency I was told my file would not be reviewed until today. If any of you were accepted (and through email confirmation) when/what time did you receive it? If anyone could let me know I would appreciate it, super nervous about it 🤔

My acceptance came via email attachment. The email came around 1 in the afternoon.

I believe the general consensus based on this thread history is that you will receive an email.
If it states you have been accepted, then an official letter should follow via snail mail.
If it just states "An official letter regarding your current status will be mailed..." with no acceptance mentioned, then you can expect a letter via snail mail that will tell you that you have either been rejected or waitlisted.

I was presented to the committee Tuesday 12/16 and received my email Wednesday 12/17 around 1:30pm (Mountain time), my waitlist letter arrived a few days later.

Has anyone that interviewed the week of December 16-19 heard anything yet?

I interviewedDec 3rd, still waiting to hear back 🙁

Hi, everyone! I have an interview at WVU next week! I am very excited, but I am starting to get a little nervous. Based on previous posts, it seems that most of the questions are based off the AMCAS application, but I wanted to see if anyone could verify this or offer any tips! Thank you 🙂
Yes, that is correct. Just be honest and be yourself and you should be fine. If you're OOS and get wait listed, don't panic because there will be lots of movement come March.

I concur. It was very conversational and they had thoroughly reviewed my application. Most questions were asking me to elaborate on my experiences and motivation. They asked about interesting/uncommon ECs. I really enjoyed my interview! Best of luck to you!

Drive safely! The roads are mostly clear at the moment with spots of ice, especially on the edges of the roads. However, we are supposed to get freezing rain tonight followed by a number of days below freezing. I'm expecting ice in the morning, but we'll see 🙄

Apparently they are going to send snail mail out for the rest of the cycle. I just called about interviewing on December 3rd, and they said they had mailed my decision out which was made on Sunday, but won't be sending an email. Don't know if this is just me, but has anyone else gotten the same response if they tried calling?

I'm wondering if this has to do with Beth Ann leaving the admissions office. I received an email this morning from her (generic to all applicants or perhaps all of those accepted/waitlisted already) stating that she was leaving and provided a contact for the interim while they interview for her position. I bet they won't be emailing because it's too time consuming if they are sending letters anyway? Just a hunch.

WVU also has an LCME accreditation coming up at the end of February and I know pretty much all the student services people and professors have been super focused on that. Just as a heads up if things start moving slowly!

Hey guys,

I'm interviewing here 1/26 and I want to send them my transcript for fall semester. Which email should I send it to?

Best of luck to you @livelovelaugh123!!! 🙂

Does anyone know if there historically has been wait list movement prior to the (in the past, May deadline) April 30 deadline to pick one school?

Is anyone actually rejected post-interview? Or are you either accepted or put on the waitlist?

If I remember correctly in either this thread or last year's (or both) I do recall seeing a few post interview rejections but I don't think they are common? It's also possible, however, that those rejected post interview simply haven't posted it here.

Most of the movement will be in May, but there might be a spot or two that opens up until then.

I think you're right. I'm sure a few people get rejected, but most get waitlisted or accepted.

Waitlisted, got my letter in the mail yesterday. Interviewed on 12/3. Hoping that there is some significant movement!

just got WL letter. interviewed early january
