Thanks, I had a low uGPA (non-trad). 3.5 post-bacc and balanced 31 MCAT with solid research experience and decent volunteering. Best of luck to you all.

Hey guys, I'm not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but does anyone know if Jeff required 2 semesters of ochem? All I can find on the website is that we should take a variety of bio, Gen Chem, o-chem, and physics... But I can't find how many semesters they require?

Anyone have any info on this? Or is Jeff just awesomely flexible? 😉

There is no semester requirement.

In fact, many schools are moving to the model. With the MCAT becoming so comprehensive, there is the expectation that success on the exam shows a holistic educational range.

I interviewed already back in September and still have that status. It doesn't mean anything.

A lot of you guys are referencing a Dr Callahan to send updates to. Where did you get their contact info and could you send it to me please? I have zero correspondence from Sidney Kimmel other than the initial secondary invite and I'd like to send in an update.

That's because you're looking in the wrong area....

Don't click on the "Pre-Fall 2016" link. Click on the "Display Secondary Application Status" link. Scroll down to Interview Status.

Also, that area always says "The Web application is complete but has not yet been processed"

I received a call from a PA number this morning. My heart began to race. "THIS IS IT" I told myself. "I AM GOING TO BE A DOCTOR."

Nope. It was a delivery person at my door delivering the 2 lbs of Amish popcorn kernels I ordered online.

Lol!!!!Almost cracked a rib at this one!

A couple questions for a current student:

What is Jefferson's remediation policy?
Are the first two years graded w/ a P/F or P/F/H system?
Will the class of 2020 have more team-based learning than other classes, since the curriculum is moving more in that direction for the class of 2021?

Thanks in advance!

1) If you fail anatomy, you continue on with the rest of your class and take a comprehensive re-exam in July and if you pass, end of story you move on like nothing ever happened. If you fail the re-exam, a committee of students and faculty meet to decide if they feel you should be allowed to move on (rare cases where you may have failed by less than a point and did well in everything else or factors outside your control clearly caused you to not do well like severe illness for example can result in promotion despite a second fail, but they're the exception not the rule). If you fail any other class or straight out fail the anatomy re-exam, you repeat the year and possibly take a leave of absence before coming back. Idk what the exact policy for MS2 is.

2) First 2 years are P/F/Honors. All exams and assignments are graded 1-100. Overall grade of 0-69.9 is fail, 70-89.9 is pass, 90+ is honors, top 5% of scores in certain classes result in special letters of achievement being added to your file. There's essentially no pressure to do anything more than pass though.

3) Some of the minor aspects of the new curriculum will go into effect next year, but 99% of the changes will not be implemented for the Class of 2020. We actually already have a large amount of team based learning in the curriculum between ICM small group, anatomy groups, applied anatomy groups, MCBM team-based learning sessions, health mentors, etc. Because of our large class size we almost always get broken up into groups for any interactive, non-lecture sessions. I'm not sure what changes will and won't go into effect next year, but some of the minor ones that can be integrated into the current curriculum will.

ACCEPTED!!!

So glad I have the popcorn to celebrate.

Screw the popcorn, go buy yourself a celebratory steak.

Got the high priority waitlist email today!! Looking at it as good news. Anyone know what the chances are of getting accepted off of this particular list?

HPWL sees high movement generally. @SuperGrover44 is correct; roughly 1/3 of the incoming class traditionally comes off the HPWL (myself included).

It's better than getting rejected... I was HPWL last year but didn't get pulled. That said, if Jeff is really where you want to go (or currently your only option) use the spring to be productive. Jeff loves updates, and if you can provide Drs. C & B with not only continued interest, but with progress, it can go a long way. Remember, they are keen on community service, so if you haven't done some recently, that's a great place to start.

Can any current students comment on the clinical rotations at Jefferson (or what they've heard about them)? Is there a lottery system? Are students generally happy with their rotation sites?

Thanks in advance!

Ahhhhh thank you...Decision pending -__-

Any II action from people complete mid September? I've been staring at decision pending for a while now lol.

Do you know how many people are placed on the HPWL?

Nobody knows and it very likely changes each year. It's anywhere from ~90-400 being that of 800 interviews, roughly 50% of interviewers are accepted and roughly ~50% wait listed and the typical class (270) is comprised of 1/3 HPWL students. There's no school I'm aware of that actually releases wait list numbers to people.

Wow that's scary. So sorry to hear. You have excellent scores with near perfect gpa! Were you a traditional undergrad?

My undergrad was traditional in that I graduated in the standard 4 years at age 22. I am currently, however, a non-traditional candidate (late 20's) with a master of science degree.

While the grad GPA is close to 4.0, the undergrad GPA is closer to 3.0 (although I did have a great GPA my senior year, and I went to a very competitive school). I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life during the first three years. Not everyone knows what career they want to have at age 18. I certainly did not.

How admissions committees decide to evaluate my two GPAs is a mystery to me. The grad GPA is recent, while the undergrad GPA is roughly a decade old.

It's certainly been a tough cycle, even with a solid application: 1 II (waitlist), 1 hold, 14 rej, 19 silence. Perhaps admissions committees don't favor non-trads as much; I have no idea. I'm also a reapplicant at SKMC.

the U of MN Releases alternate list rankings in April so you know where you are on the wait list before may deadlines for acceptances. I think that there are couple of other schools where you can call to determine your rank on the HPWL as well... though not sure on specific schools.

I did not know that, but I'm glad some schools tell you if they do rank their wait list (Jeff does not rank beyond HPWL and alternate wait list).

Paging @Doctor Strange since he's in the midst of them.

I'm a second year so everything I know is through the grapevine. From what I've gathered:

They don't like to call it a lottery system, but it is. They take your wants into consideration and enter them into the algorithm. I've been told they're very perceptive to those requests, however. But I'll defer to those with firsthand knowledge.

Everyone I've talked to seems very happy with their locations.

There's no school I'm aware of that actually releases wait list numbers to people.

Yeah there are. For the sake of anonymity I'll just say that the school I was choosing between with Jeff released the numbers and had a live ticker to let you know where they were currently on the wait list. Spammed the refresh button on their website once I was ~3 spots away from the offer. That was a suspenseful 4 days in May.

How do i login to check my application status? I keep going to their site but cant find the login anywhere

For those who were accepted, all we have to mail back is that postcard that states we accept the seat correct? We don't need to send in the deposit until April 30th correct? Thank you!
