2015-2016 Quinnipiac University (Netter) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I basically ran into the same problem xD
But i don't know how to answer the social change question....so I need to come up with SOMETHING

I wrote about my unique research interests and how they could impact social change in the future of healthcare.

For the LOR part of the secondary, I already designated on AMCAS that they will be receiving my committee letter, but AMCAS hasn't received it yet. Can I still submit my app? because I can't get that page of the secondary to say "Complete." ;(

EDIT: NVM, I saw a similar issue on the first page. Has that been resolved?

I know this has been asked a couple times but I'm a little concerned... Quinnipiac seems to be primary care focused. How frowned upon is it to write about a different specialty for question 1? I don't want to be automatically sidelined because of that! Thoughts?

How close to the word limit were y'all for each of your essays? I'm only at like 184 words so far for my social change essay but I feel like I'm running out of things to say...

I would start out overwriting then editing down, some of mine are closer to 200, I wouldn't be concerned as long as you're getting your point across.

To be generic "quality > quantity" haha

When i FINALLY receive a secondary

If you are running out of things to say, stop writing. It is generally very obvious when a person is done talking, but feels like he/she is obligated to say more.

Any current/incoming students willing to answer a quick personal question about the secondary?

Soo.. is the consensus that we cannot submit the secondary application until we see our letters listed in the LOR section of the app?

I submitted a while ago so I don't really remember, but doesn't it say on the LOR section of the application not to submit until you see the letters listed? If it says that, then definitely don't submit until they're listed.

Man I spent so much time on this one.... I feel like my secondary isnt even that good

I realized on the LoR section of the secondary I didn't indicate what type of letter each one of my LoR's was (science, personal, etc) prior to submitting and they now all say personal reference. Is this something worth contacting admissions?

I am about to submit and my letters all say personal reference as well. I think AMCAS just sends them to schools that way; all of the other schools that I have secondaries for also list my letters as PR (for personal reference). It shouldn't be a big deal, since the content of the letters and title of your recommenders should give it away regardless.

LOL I love the email we just got soothing all our fears about not being able to submit within 2 weeks due to letters. Thanks, SDN

I called them. You can't submit until your LORs are in. I'm waiting for a committee letter which won't be released until August. So can't submit until then.

Was this email only sent to people who haven't submitted yet? I didn't receive the email, but I have already submitted, so that may be the reason.

can someone tell please me how to change your photo size....some schools want 2x2 some want 2x3 and I'm apparently totally inept at things like this...

It says "approx 2x3" I think as long as your length is bigger than your width, you'll be fine. I doubt they'll take a ruler out and measure haha

Submitted without my LOR's in and I received the same e-mail. How kind.

My guess is that it's fine. They can't expect everyone to go into primary care

For the 'One Clinical Experience' essay...when they say not to 'duplicate' your primary, is this in regards to copying & pasting sentences, or the topic in general?

What prompt are you referring to?

when inputting course grades, do you think they're looking for the number grade (3.0, 4.0, etc...) or the letter grade designated by AMCAS?

For the number of hours worked as a full time student per year, is it referring to if you worked the whole year/school year, or does summer hours count too? I worked sparingly in the summer, so just wanted clarification.

If you werent a full time student in the summer, then that work wouldnt count right?

primary submitted like two days ago, not verified yet(prob 3 weeks time). school is 15 minutes from my home. school is very oos friendly cause everyone in state goes to UConn. toured campus, its brand new, anatomy lab is pretty cool.

Has anyone thought about writing the "advice" question in a letter format?
For example, "You should do xyz. You probably are thinking this xyz"

I know a few people asked this already, but I'm not sure whether you guys came up with a general consensus. For the essay regarding the area of medicine we envision ourselves working in, is it a bad idea to put anything down besides primary care? That sounds silly to me, but then again I'm not sure how the school would interpret answers beyond primary care. I am thinking of putting down psychiatry as my answer. :/

I would like to know too. On one hand, the school is primary care focused. On the other hand, I do not want to seem close minded in terms of picking a specialty.

If I may offer my .02, I would suggest only writing about primary care if that's what you're passionate about. Don't try to conform to what you think they want to hear--be genuine, they will certainly sense if you're not.

I don't think they will throw your application to the wayside if you say another specialty. At least I hope not, I'm interested in EM and said so.

If it helps, psychiatry is lrinary care.

Fm, im, peds, obgyn, psych,

From what i understand at least

Is anyone else having trouble with the application portal? It keeps saying "incomplete" when all the sections have been filled out.

Just submitted maybe an hour ago, no problems.

I feel so dumb right now... I already submitted and I think I made a mistake when entering my course requirements! It asks for a year for each section + I entered the right amount of courses for everything except biology. I'm on the quarter system so I think that got me confused 🙁. I entered only 2 bio classes (lab is separate) which I think is equivalent to a little more than half a year and then entered 2 bio lab classes separately. Would admissions fix a mistake like this?? (doubtful?) I am a bio major so I definitely have the requirements down....ugh 🙁
As long as you have the requirements, I wouldn't worry.

If you are still worried, you could shoot an email to the school of medicine. This is just a minor mistake. 🙂

Also, do they screen for secondary invites?
Yes. It's not a highly selective screen (like some of the other schools where over half of the applicants get rejected before receiving a secondary), but there is a screen. For the exact numbers, scroll back through previous pages of this thread.

I'm hesitant to believe that criteria for screening, though. My GPA falls below the screens listed before and I received a secondary.
