2015-2016 SUNY Upstate Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Neither have I...I called admissions to try to find out my clinical campus but the woman was kind of weird and said she needed to have someone else call me back....should I be worried?
I got the acceptance packet by snail mail and that the clinical campus on it. Have you gotten that yet? If you said "____ only" then that's what they'll give you

Nope not yet - I said Syracuse preferred which is why I was curious. Anyway, I doubt they "accidentally" admitted me haha

So I interviewed 9/16 and still haven't heard back. My portal went blank earlier this week so I figured I would hear today but no luck. Should I start to be worried that something went wrong with selecting my campus choice or just be patient?

Does anyone know the percentage of an acceptance post interview?

Hi guys!! When you got your II, was it emailed to you or was it in the portal? And if it's in the portal, where would that even show up?

Thanks!

I never got an email, but some people do. When you sign into your portal, there's a big red message at the bottom that say 'congratulations on your interview invitation' or something along those lines

Thank you so much!

So it would show up under here?

No you wouldn't even have to go that far. As soon as you log in it will be at the bottom of the main page under the processed applications section

accepted as well via portal. no email. interviewed 9/16

Called today and they didnt have a committee meeting this week. Next one is on monday so hopefully the rest of the september interviewers will hear back

Is there any way to update your application pre-interview?

pre-interview hold on 10/05 🙁 Secondary completed 09/09. Best of luck to those interviewing!
Anyone know if there is a way we could update our application? I can't seem to find a link anywhere.

Is Upstate receptive to post-hold updates?

has anyone found out how to send updates or if they are even receptive to update letters pre-interview?
I am also on hold, so just curious if you guys (or anyone else reading this) knew if it was worth it or even an option.

Thanks. 🙂

I took a chance and sent one to [email protected] but haven't heard back yet. I'll let you know if I do!

I don't know what you can do pre-interview, but they definitely want post-interview updates. They made it very clear at the interview day that they want to have the most up to date information to make the decision, so if there's anything significant, to let them know.

For those who have done the MMI, did you talk for 8 minutes straight or is it more like a conversation? That is, you say something and then the interview asks a follow up question?

Any help is much appreciated!

As I think I've mentioned above, I did not feel super great after the interview. It could have been due to the fact that this was my first interview, my first MMI, etc. but I still was accepted! I'm not sure whether I actually performed better on the MMI than I thought or if they overlooked my performance for other positive aspects of my app haha. Either way, I'll tell you how it went for me!

For most, it depended on the stations. Some stations ended earlier than others (i.e. I did not use the full time). Definitely don't try to talk for the full 8 minutes. They want to have a conversation with you and be able to ask follow-up questions to push you further. I think early on, I tended to ramble a bit due to nerves and apparently that was ok. There was definitely at least one station where I talked for too long and didn't leave adequate time for a follow-up.

Regardless, it was a super super low key, low stress day and very enjoyable IMHO. Just try to stay calm! I think most of the prompts I saw really did push for conversation (when it was obvious that that was the goal!) GOOD LUCK!

I definitely had some stations where I really had nothing more to say and they were only prepared for one follow up question. I actually found this MMI to be far less conversational than most of my other interviews. So I'd say be prepared to talk for most of the time since it was a bit awkward to be sitting there quietly until you just decide to walk out: I felt that the interviewers appreciated it when I had a detailed response.

Hi,

Thank you for answering my question!

I have a few follow-up questions lol. Did you have to type a response, did any of the questions focus on things currently happening in the news, and did you have to complete a task with another interviewee?

This is good to know. So, you're saying you can get up and leave when you feel like the convo is over and before time is called?

Yes. Although, I would try and talk. I ran out of time / had much more to say than time allowed. There's no way you'll be that comprehensive on those questions / just ask the interviewer questions too.

Okay. Thank you so much!

I'll ask you the same questions I posted above since I'm interested in your experience as well: Did you have to type a response, did any of the questions focus on things currently happening in the news, and did you have to complete a task with another interviewee?

Exactly what @Halgene said - were not allowed to answer but I can promise you that it is VERY relaxed and the last thing you want to do is try to over prepare for this setting

Okay. Cool. Thanks, everyone, for answering my questions! Looking forward to my interview this week 😀.

Interview 9/30 and my portal just went blank an hour ago. So they must have made some solid progress...

For those who already received decisions, how soon after the blank portal did you get a decision?

When I found out - mine cleared on Monday and I believe on thursday I checked the portal and it said congrats on your acceptance. GOOD LUCK ALL!

I interviewed on 9/30 as well.... portal still says "Congrats on your Interview!". This wait is killing me.

I called yesterday... they were still working through September interviewees. Mid-october interviewees probably won't get looked at until December

Got the news two weeks ago but accepted!!! interviewed 9/21. IS

Blank Portal since Monday. Still nothing. Who knows what's going on. Just gotta twiddle my thumbs and hope for the best.

So either end of the day today or tomorrow... not sure if that makes me relieved or more worried.
im excited but the only thing im worried about is how many spots they filled up at the oct 15 acceptance. idk whether they were more selective reviewing us than the early september people

High priority waitlist. got the email at 4pm. IS interviewed 9/23. they said last year that there was less WL movement than last year. anyone knows roughly how many people get off of HPWL?
