2015-2016 Texas A&M Health Science Center Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got an II here at 9 AM as well yesterday, scheduled at the Temple campus. 🙂

At what point would writing a letter of intent be acceptable?

I thought letters of intent were only useful post interview and if you were wait listed. Have you interviewed at A&M? It seems kind of useless to send one in pre-interview, but that's just my personal opinion and I could be completely wrong.

Anyone know when they started sending out acceptances/rejections last year or the past few years to OOS individuals that had already interviewed? Was it on/around October 15th?

Just looking at last year's thread, it seems like there were a couple of acceptances reported on the 15th.

Hello everyone,
My TMDSAS app was transmitted to schools on Oct. 7th, but in BAMF website, primary application and MCAT scores hasn't been marked " complete" yet ( My secondary is complete though), and my application status is still pending. Does anybody know how much it takes approx. for the status to be updated ?

It took my portal about a week to update. Just give it some time.

A couple more days and we'll know..... I'm excited.

I heard this from another interviewee at a different school so I can't verify how true it is. They said they might not send acceptances out today because they will be busy with interview day so they might come out tomorrow.

Fair enough. Do you know how long their committee review process is after the interview? Not sure if I should expect to hear back if I interviewed late September

I don't sorry. I thought about it more and that doesn't seem right because it's not like every single person in the office is busy with interview stuff. I'm sure they have a decent amount of down time. I hope we hear today.

For those who interviewed here, what did yall think of your interview date? Would you rank TAMHSC high on your TMDSAS rank list?

I loved my interview day at TAMHSC! However I'll admit that I'm not sure if I'll be ranking it higher then Dell Medical School and a few others so therefore it stands around the middle of my list right now. But things always change!

I wonder what that means for the rest of us OOSers, hopefully it means they're still reviewing our applications!

I scored low 30's and my cGPA was 3.95. For what it's worth, last year sucked for me. I was waitlisted by two schools and denied by more schools than I can remember. It's still early though, so don't lose hope. If you don't get in anywhere (like me last year) use it as motivation to step up your game.

Congratulations to you! Waiting is definitely brutal. Do you know how and when they communicate the wait list?
Thanks! Yeah I know. Waiting for an email can drive you nuts. I received my waitlist notification last cycle on 2/2. I believe that's match day.

Did anyone get a more detailed schedule than what was written in the invitation email? You know,

"Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Health Professions Education Building ...etc.... The interview day will conclude at 5 p.m."

I got a pretty detailed schedule for my PhD interview the day before, so I'm wondering if I missed an email somewhere.

I interviewed a while back, MD/PhD, they don't send you a schedule for the second day. You will get a goodie bag and a folder for your MD interview at 7:30 in the Morning on the day of your interview. For the PhD I think it starts at 11 at the MREB. MD interviews are at the same place for me but in the building across the MREB on the lower floor. Try to book several taxies in case one doesn't show up. It actually starts at 8! PhD interviews were a bit tough (all depends on who you get!), but MD were very enjoyable, had some questions that stumped me, but interviewer was very nice. Waiting for a response back! Texas AM is my top choice! Ask them if they have accepted anyone yet?! This wait is brutal 🙁

What's the latest I can expect to be there on the day of the interview (regular MD, Temple campus)? Just wondering whether 5ish PM sounds reasonable, since I'd like to be able to drive home afterwards.

Depends on how close you live to Temple. If you live within an hour or two I would expect your last interview to occur around 4 or 4:30. Those who live further away will receive the earlier interviews to help them start their travels sooner.

That's awesome - I live about 6 hours away, so I really appreciate them being so accommodating. Thanks for the info!

Did anyone else who interviewed here but has not been accepted yet get an email from the navy congratulating you on being a future tamhsc physician?

Yes! Just got mine as well. Looks like a mass mailing though, not sure if it just went out to all who interviewed or what.

No 🤔 Maybe the recruiters know something? Did you express an interest in their scholarship during interview day?

I gave them my info, but said not interested. It was the army that was there that day, but I'm sure they all share information. Did you give them back the card at all?
