2015-2016 Texas A&M Health Science Center Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I gave them my info, but said not interested. It was the army that was there that day, but I'm sure they all share information. Did you give them back the card at all?

I don't remember giving them a card. I assumed that they had our info already. Mystery solved, I guess!

Does anyone here have info about the "minors" we have to complete in the new curriculum? I can't find this info anywhere on the site!

Does it say in any of the emails or on BAMF where we go to check in for the interview day?? Am I missing something? I'm interviewing at the Bryan campus.

Same here, I'm just going to get there 30 minutes to an hour early to be sure I know where to go. It's a fairly small campus from what I have heard, so finding the place for interviewees to go shouldn't be hard.

Did anyone else who interviewed here but has not been accepted yet get an email from the navy congratulating you on being a future tamhsc physician?

Yes! Just got mine as well. Looks like a mass mailing though, not sure if it just went out to all who interviewed or what.

No 🤔 Maybe the recruiters know something? Did you express an interest in their scholarship during interview day?

How many days after the interview did y'all receive the email?
I got mine 5 days after but it didn't say "congratulations future tamhsc physician" ..It only said something like "thank you for attending our presentation" 😕

Interviewed 10/1. Email 10/21. I wouldn't read too much into it though I think everyone got that email

When I went, the medical students at the social the night before even offered to drive from where dinner was to the school so that anybody from out of town could follow them and know where to go.

Did anyone else get another Army email? This one has the subject line "Automatic Acceptance! Scholarship, HPSP"

Edit: if only I got an automatic acceptance to A&M 🙁

I did. 🙂 Theyre really pushing this!

Anyone know if they are still interviewing oos? I hoped to get an interview here. Also, do they accept updates or LOIs?

r u gonna go?
Yes! A&M was by far one of my best interview experiences.

@pp16 I interviewed on August 20th.

@J1988 My application was a little bit late last year and then I never got off the alternate list. At my interview day this year I was told that last year was a bad year to be on the waitlist. I guess A&M didn't have any movement until really late in the cycle and even then it was only a couple of spots.

i agree with you adam. i've been on a few interviews now and nothing tops A&M. honestly amazing and i'm not just saying that. for anyone else hoping to hear from them, i wish you the best of luck - this school really has it's stuff together.

Looks like I'm not the only one with this view. This school is just... dreamy. Hoping I match here!

Does anyone know if it is possible to be rejected before November 15? Or can they send out rejections along with the prematch acceptances?
IIRC you get a notice if you prematched on Nov 15 thru Dec. If not you will be placed into the match for Feb next year. If you don't match you're placed on the waitlist till like June.

Everyone take a breath; it's too early to be worrying about things you can do nothing about.

That is the worst feeling, but it's good to hear you're back for round two! I was one of the fortunate few who got off of that wait list and, let me tell you, the people who got picked up with me are some pretty special students. It goes to show you, as well as anyone else applying: just because you don't pre-match does not mean you are not going to rock at med school. It took me and many friends 2 years and several waitlists to get in, and we are excelling. Do not let not getting an early acceptance make you feel inadequate (obviously directed towards others, great job on the acceptance adam108!)

When they say the interview ends at 5pm, is it really 5pm?
Trying to see if I could do an 8pm flight out of hobby..not sure if that would be cutting it way too close.

Traffic gets really bad through Houston and you have to go through to the south side. It would be at least an hour and a half if there is no traffic. It's over 100 miles. Don't risk it.

I do remember Mrs. Diaz mentioning that they are incredibly cautious how many acceptances they give out. A couple years ago they ended up with more students wanting to matriculate than they had planned when they sent out acceptances. I can't remember if some of the acceptances were withdrawn or the students were deferred for the next year but admissions probably doesn't want to chance it again. I have no idea if that caution will affect pre-match though.

At my interview, Mrs. Diaz mentioned they basically send out the same number of prematches as the class size. Then as students turn the prematches down, they continue to send out the number of prematches that would fill their class.

I guess for schools that tend to be heavy on pre-matches, that makes sense. In fact, I believe that that was something UTSW did last year when they made a major change to their curriculum (according to some report which I can't seem to find anymore...).

what schools are heavy on the prematch?

Congratulations to everyone who has already (or will be) interviewed, and good luck with the upcoming pre-match and match process! Here are the stats for the TMDSAS schools' entering classes of 2015, showing # of offers extended by each school, total applicants, total interviewed, avg GPA, avg MCAT, etc. Not sure if this includes pre match + match or not :

Congratulations to those already accepted and good luck to those who have and will be interviewing! Hope the prematch and match bring you all great news.

As acceptances and matches go out, its a good idea to start bringing classmates together! Several of us deferred last year in order to join the M.D. Plus Program and will be matriculating into this years class. We have created the class Facebook page so that members can begin communicating with other incoming classmates, asking questions to current students, and getting a feel for their new Aggie Med Student family.

The FB Group can be found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1249618311730499/

or by searching "TAMHSC COM: Class of 2020"

Again, Congrats and Good luck!

What?? I think she said the exact opposite during my interview day. Don't think the school is prematch-heavy at all because of the overaccepting fiasco from a few years ago. Also I'm pretty sure the majority of people matriculated come from the match... but I might be wrong.

UTH is a prematch heavy school and extends 45-60 offers usually. I think TAMHSC would give out fewer?

I know for sure that TCOM and Texas Tech are pretty aggressive when it comes to prematching. Part of it has to do with the location of the school I believe.

How do you know tcom is pre-match heavy? And their class size is like 240 or something if i remember correctly, so what does heavy mean here? 100? 150?

Anyone who recently got an II mind sharing what dates they have left? I believe their last interview date is 12/17 so I wanted to see if there was still a chance to hear from here.

II earlier today!
What dates were you offered?

If I remember correctly, you would only be given 1 date but they are very flexible if you want to reschedule.

I also heard Ms Diaz say they will offer exact amounts of prematch offers as the numbers of seats. Now question is, will we find out tomorrow? Or no because it's a Sunday? Will it be all at once, or rolling?

Nothing for me either. At my interview, Mrs. Diaz also mentioned that they may not send them out on the 15th since it's a Sunday and that they'll go out tomorrow instead. But then she joked that she knows how neurotic we all are so she may go in on Sunday to send them out anyway. I was really hoping that they would actually send them out today, but it may just be tomorrow instead :/

Good to know! That just calmed me down a bit haha.

If I might chime in, they were sent at midnight (12:10) last year. Perhaps they will be sent really late tonight? Just speculation.
