2015-2016 University of Central Florida Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The interview was pretty sweet. Relaxed interviews, nice faculty and staff, friendly students, amazing tour/amenities, and, my favorite, HIGH DEGREE OF TRANSPARENCY. UCF basically gave away the farm on how they evaluate candidates, how they rank them, when they will notify us, and what information they will give us when they notify us. In fact, they are very willing to talk to students inquiring about their status. Overall, I was very pleased with UCF. Baylor was my first interview and they impressed me with their class and organization...UCF was my second and they were right up there with Baylor. UCF is an up and coming program that many argue has already made it...and honestly you can't argue against in light of their results and conduct as an institution of medical education.

In essence: it was awesome.

Oh, and you get to watch a surgery...possibly a robotic surgery at one of the nicest hospitals you will ever step inside. 😍

100% agree with all of this! UCF was my most enjoyable interview day so far, no question about it. Everyone was so nice, and we had a TON of opportunities to interact with current students. I completely agree that UCF's transparency in the admissions process is awesome - I have not encountered this degree of openness at any other school. I loved this interview and UCF quickly rose in the ranks to the top of my list. The only downside to my interview day is that we didn't get to see a robotic surgery because the surgeon was between cases 🙁 but we did get to see the robot!

Who else is interviewing 10/19? So excited!

For those of you who interviewed, about how many other interviewees were there?

Does anyone have an idea of how many IIs they've given out? Currently crafting an update letter and will possibly upload it tomorrow..but am thinking it might be smarter to wait if they haven't gone through that many II spots yet..

Does anyone know if UCF will be making phone calls on Thursday?

I could do some really random math to figure it out. Call it 4 interview days a month, 16 people per day, that's 64 per month, let's round up to 70 for the extra few days in a month. September, and October invites have gone out for sure, maybe two weeks of November, so 70+70+32 = 172. Again that is completely made up though 🙂

prob like 20-40%...Just an estimated guess.

For those that interviewed early enough they said they will be. I think it's the first 4 interview dates?
Yeah, I am wondering what time though because I want to make sure i answer the call Lol.

We specifically asked REL during our interview if we missed the call what would happen. After joking that they would offer the spot to someone else, he said they would leave a message to call them back 🙂

We will begin calling at or after 9am EST, and follow that pattern for each time zone heading west to noonish for the west coast. We will begin calling members of each of the four groups based on the group that interviewed first.

Best of luck all!!

Accepted this morning with a phone call!!!!! I love this school and everything about it. Words cannot express how happy I am to have this opportunity! Ahhhhhh! Good luck everyone, sending positive vibes to the SDN community!

Congratulations!! All the hard work pays off.

Congrats to those accepted! I'll find out next week.

Can someone who has already interviewed tell me about the interview day? Is one interviewer a med student and the other a physician?

Hey guys. Really interested in this school and have never been to Disneyland before lol. I was sent a secondary in later september and finished it quickly after, but did not realize that I needed the character letters until I logged in to my portal and checked. I took time to find good candidates to write my character letter, but they're both busy with school and took quite a long time to write it. I just got my first character letter sent in a few days ago, and hopefully the second one will arrive soon. Am I too late in the cycle? I was wondering what are my chances now since I took too long to send in the character letters? Really sad...🙁 Would love to visit this school.
Btw, OOS too so even less of a chance 🙁

Just a heads-up ... it's Walt Disney WORLD that's by Orlando ... Disneyland is in CA! (I'll let someone else weigh in on too late v. too early but I wish you the best.)

Regarding the time of receiving a call, I think REL can call whenever. I remember when I got accepted a couple years ago, he called me at like 6:45 PM EST and I could've sworn he was going to tell me I got rejected. 😛

So, my whole status disappeared today, and originally it said EFI. Has this happened to anyone else?

Same here lol, are we all top 1/3? Fingers crossed for all of us! I've heard they somewhat regularly pull from the "not-yet-accepted" list so that's promising!

So does that mean the class is already full?

Nope...@REL might be able to confirm this or clarify better than I can...but my understanding is that applicants are ranked post-interview and placed into a "spreadsheet" based on that ranking. Each week the committee decides on accepting a number of students (I've heard this ranging anywhere from 4 to 7 but I honestly do not know, that's just from other applicants/hearsay). I think they pull (for the most part) from the top of that list to fill up the seats. As new interviewees are ranked, they go into that list based on their rankings. So our being in the top 1/3 right now means that it is possible we could be called next week or we could be called anytime between then and April for an acceptance if we move down that list, depending on how many people are ranked above us with each new batch of interviewees.

A lot of that info is from what Rel told us on our interview day, but some of it is just anecdotal so until he or someone else can confirm this, I'd take it with a grain of salt 🙂 I'm hoping that if the above described is the case, then those of us who are waiting now get our phone calls sooner rather than later!!

Avatarwan-kanobi you have it all correct....well done!

My interview here is coming up and I just realized something about the LOR requirements. I am a non-trad on my 2nd gap year. I am using my undergrad's committee letter for all of my schools, which included several attached individual LORs. I noticed that they make no mention of requiring a committee letter for non-trads, while they mention it for trads. Am I in trouble?

If they invited you to interview, then you've probably satisfied their requirements - but if you're really worried maybe call admissions? They're very helpful in that regard. As far as I know, most schools prefer committee letters, so I'm sure you're fine 🙂

Thank you! I just checked the admissions login, and they mentioned that they do not mark your application complete unless I meet all of their requirements for LORs, so I think that I am good!
