I got an II today as well. Last I checked my status was under review, and that was last night.

When you say under review do you mean the green status that said it had been reviewed and they would decide whether or not to send you an II

No, I mean the first status that says something like "your application is under review"

Does anyone know how to put AP courses in the prereq section? It says to put the University that gave you credit, but I'm not sure what to put for the grade. Thanks!

how long was your status the "has been reviewed, committee will decide....." thing? and congrats 🙂
I think around 1 week, but then another 2-3 weeks after a decision was made to notify me.

For the AP question above, I put P (AP Credit) because they show up as P on my transcript.

On my transcript it was marked as K (what my college calls exempt for some reason..)
I just put AP for the grade because K seemed a little weird to put

Anyone with knowledge of the Tri Rail and Metrorail systems: would you say it's safe for an unaccompanied woman to travel from FLL to the medical school using the metro systems in the evening? I have a flight arriving at around 7pm for an October interview, so I'll have to use the metro kind of "late" to get to my hotel. My fiance is a tiny bit worried but I am convinced I'll be just fine. Prove me right or wrong - any info would be helpful. Thanks! 🙂

I got an email a few weeks ago saying that my photograph was received. I finally submitted the secondary today, but my status shows that they're still missing my photo. Did this happen to anyone? Should I resend the photo or just wait a few days? Any help will be appreciated!

Application complete on the 17th and still in review... What's going on? Lol

It just takes some time to match up. You shouldn't have to contact them

@nih15hopeful use the GOShuttle from FLL. The group ride (with 2-3 other parties) is $25-35 depending on where you're staying plus you can book online in advance. The TriRail to Metro can be an adventure, especially for an out-of-Towner at night...

Thanks for the tip!

By "adventure," do you mean unsafe or simply difficult to navigate? I am pretty public transportation savvy, having grown up in a big city. How about if I used the metro system a couple of hours earlier, around 5pm (I can change my flight without penalty if it would somehow make a significant difference in safety)? I only ask because I see that I could save ~$45 total on transportation using the metro system over GOShuttle.

Im from Miami and personally wouldn't use the public transportation. The trains are pretty safe but the terminals where you would switch trains can get pretty sketchy after dark. Plus the Miami metro system is infuriatingly confusing.

Well, I think the second opinion & extra info settle it. A shuttle it is! My fiance has won yet again...sigh...lol. Genuine thanks to you both @MortarAndPestle76 and @goldy490!

I wouldn't worry about it as long as you make sure you flight lands in time to make the last tri-rail. The stations and trains usually have nighttime security so you should be fine if you aren't leaving the station, and your hotel isn't in a really ghetto neighborhood.

worth adding this one as a last minute addition? also concerned since they interview so few oos/oos applicants

This was several years ago. Since the 2013 entering class, they have stopped favoring IS students for admissions purposes since the med school doesn't receive state funding anymore. The higher percentage of in state students being interviewed is probably due to more IS people having connections w/ the med school through research or shadowing (esp their own undergrads, which they do favor quite a bit) or may because the IS applicants may have higher stats to begin with.

For tuition purposes, though UM is a private school the med school tuition for the MD program is currently about $5k higher for OOS students, but the plan is to increase the IS tuition over a several year period so that it matches the OOS tuition (which is higher but hasn't increased much over the past few years).

Also, if your stats are borderline I would recommend applying to MD/MPH which is more forgiving with stats (the average GPA/MCAT was 3.65/32 for the class of 2018 MD/MPH, while it was 3.76/33.5 for the MD class of 2018). But keep in mind that the MD/MPH adcoms are also looking for more unique experiences in your application to compensate for the lower stats, and this is evident in the fact the the MD/MPH class usually has a higher proportion of non-traditional students (who have pursued careers in other areas prior to med school) than the MD class.

As a private school, UM doesn't have an institutional bias the way the other Florida schools do. They do tend to take more Florida students though, and I think that is because they they have a commitment to Miami/Florida and want to take people from the community that will be likely to stay in the state for residency. They have some of the best professional connections in the state and don't want to lose a foothold because their graduates are heading back to their home states after graduation. Also if you look at their class profile, nearly 1/3 (41 of 150) of their students went to UM for undergrad, which definitely throws the numbers a bit.

The high number of students from UM undergrad is due to their 7 or 8 year Honors Program (aka the combined BS/MD program) which usually takes up 20-25 spots each class. And while they don't favor IS vs OOS, they will do give some preference to their own undergrads (though this may just be due to them having connections with the med school).

Good point!

One more for the Miami locals regarding my post-interview departure from FLL: I'm not familiar with how busy that airport can get, but would you say arriving there just 60-80 minutes before a domestic flight would give me enough time to get through a Friday evening security line and successfully board?

Same thing happened to me!

it says briefly describe the clinical experience. so i wrote 200 words.. is that too brief?
why are they asking questions thats on amcas? 🙁

I don't think I've ever spent more than 30 min waiting in security (except times like Thanksgiving/Xmas) at FLL. You'll probably even have enough time to grab a drink at the bar!

People that got an II and chose dates - how long did it take for the school to let you know what one you're scheduled for?

I submitted my preferences in the morning and got confirmation around 1:00pm. Best of luck!

I never got an email confirmation but the portal updated, listing a single date (fortunately, my top choice). I am not sure whether it's final until I receive the email, but I hope so because I've already booked hotel + flight.

when did that happen for you?

Anyone MD only that doesn't have the under review status?

Yep! I'm MD only and my status is "your application has been reviewed by the admissions committee." It's been that way since last Tuesday, I believe.

Nope, everything has been green for me. That's odd

AHHH congrats!! I've seen you around other threads hoping for an II, so congrats again!

PS whats your LizzyM and when were you complete?

Thanks! Yeah it was disheartening getting a bunch of rejections to start but now so happy 🙂

LizzyM 70 and I believe complete July 13-15? (While edit later with exact date)
