2015-2016 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Confused. Got the CaneLink email on a saturday (seems like everyone got it on thursday), and mine doesn't start with "thank you" so I feel like my e-mail is different. What does this mean?

"The download of your biographical information into the university student portal (CaneLink) on the University of Miami mainframe computer system has generated an automated email requesting you to update your contact information."

What contact info?

Did anyone from the Nov 2 interview group get the "A final decision has been reached by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine on your application." status change? I didn't, and I am guessing that means that I'll have to wait for the next decision day in December.

i just got the canelink email this morning, completed late aug.

Yea, I doubt anyone from that date did. I interviewed on 10/19 and wasn't included in the first decision date (11/4). Most of those folks had interviewed early-Mid October and earlier. I've been included in this upcoming decision date (11/18). You're looking at about a month turn-around at earliest

Same! What does this mean? When do we call or when will we hear?
When did you submit? I'm still "currently under review." Just trying to paint a picture of where they might be with things.

On a side note, I'm very glad that they are thorough with this review process because that application took a great deal of effort.

Acceptance dates are listed on the applicant mobile app. The link should have been included in a previous email.

Notification date is November 18th. All decision dates are posted on the hubspring that they gave us along with our interview notification!

good call! fingers crossed for good news for Nov 18th, looks like they made a decision on my app for both MD and MD/MPH. :xf::xf::xf:

MIAMI MILLER, you are my top choice ( only second to my state school because of the cost of attendece) if you love me , I WILL LOVE YOU BACK. Please be kind and nice to me, and I will
Reciprocate^10 .

Does anyone want to comment on how important those prestige points are for your application? For example is state school a 0/30, 5/30, 15/30 etc? I would hate to have a solid application knocked because I did well at a university that wasn't prestigious.

Also are points only to get an interview? Are there more points after the interview that get added?

Thanks in advance 🙂
Not that important. I've met tons of awesome classmates who came from state schools or no-name colleges who worked incredibly hard to get here and who deserve to be here just as much as me and the others who came from a "more prestigious" university.

Any advice on choosing between MD and MDMPH once accepted?

I've got some advice. Pick MD so I can get off the alternate list for MD/MPH. Lol. Seriously though, I don't know why you wouldn't do MD/MPH if you have the choice. From interview day, most of the MD/MPH students I talked with said getting both degrees in just FOUR years was made very manageable by the school (which was one of my main concerns). They seem to have integrated and organized everything as well. The opportunity to spend a summer in a foreign country doing a project seemed pretty legit as well. I also would think you must of had a decent reason for wanting an MPH if you were interviewed for the MD/MPH program. If really do want to get an MPH, what better time than now? I could go on..... just please drop one soon so more of us can get accepted. Also, congratulations on getting accepted (I must have interviewed with you in September. Ya'll were a pretty impressive group).

Is anyone still unable to log on to the Canelink portal? I got the email on Thursday and still cannot get on.

Got the final decision message as well, nothing for MD-MPH yet.

I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but my interviewer-advocate (I really like that the person that liked you the most interviews you, I don't think I've heard of this happening at any other school I applied to) asked me flat out if, given the choice, I would do MD-MPH or just MD. I said the former because of my goals and interests and he agreed that was the better route.

Maybe the fact that I said that means I'll get waitlisted or rejected for MD and that's why it showed up earlier? Dr. Gervais told our group to expect a call on December 9 rather than tomorrow, so this seems to fit with my speculation.

No, your response to that question does not affect when you will hear back.

I'm post-interview, currently "final decision" status, and never got a canelink email. Not sure what that may or may not mean.

Hi guys,
I received the following email from admissions and am wondering if anyone else has received anything similar. And what exactly does this even mean

"The download of your biographical information into the university student portal (CaneLink) on the University of Miami mainframe computer system has generated an automated email requesting you to update your contact information. That website also indicated that you would be able to check your application status. Please be advised that your medical school application status was not downloaded, only your biographical information.

Please continue to use the link we provided to track your medical school application status after you submit your secondary application.

I don't think it means anything. I am still under review, without a CaneLink email, and I still received this.

Scoring is a rolling process and can be finalized at any time.

Hi, midevil! I know you're not at liberty to discuss specific information, but I was wondering if you could comment on the timing of interview invitations -- are they also given on a rolling base? Or perhaps certain intervals? Thanks! :hello:

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I've looked through the portal and all the emails Miami Miller has sent to us and I do not see if they will accept application updates. Has anyone tried to update their application? If so do you email it in a PDF format directly to Admissions? Thanks! Other schools, as I'm sure you all know, make it pretty easy to upload the document directly to them on their user friendly portal.
Good luck everyone!

If you haven't gotten an II yet, is that a bad sign? How many more II do they have left to hand out?

They seem to interview later than most schools. My brother got an interview in January (already had an acceptance so turned it down).
