Waitlisted! Interview 12/4. 4.0, 507, couple of pubs and outside of medicine work experience.

Hoping/assuming my MCAT is what's holding me back considering I'm OOS, but it's tough to know: maybe my interview didn't go as well as I hoped.

Can anyone attest to when the ranking will come out for those of us waitlisted at the TC campus?

12/4 IS interviewer here that was supposed to hear at 8 weeks. Still no news at 11 weeks. I called at 9 weeks and asked if a decision had been made or if I could get a meaningful timeline. "You'll know when a decision is made." Fyi, she didn't ask for any identifying information.

Any other 12/4 ppl waiting?

For those of you wondering why people are getting accepted out of order: I went to an admissions seminar in the summer, and the director of admissions told us that certain candidates that the school 'really likes' get an expedited review, post interview.

Just got the axe after being complete since September. OOS.

Likewise, October for me. Not super impressed with the communication from the U. MCW would give me an update every other month as to the application/interview progress on their end; the U of Arizona - Phoenix did too.

So I just interviewed last week. I was told it could take 8-10 weeks for a decision. Is that how long everybody else been waiting for?

Yes that is right. I interviewed Jan. 4. and still waiting a respond.

I'm at 12 weeks. No news. I never wanted anything as bad as I want this. Drowning in misery. Did they tell you if they have any seats left, or is it all waitlist from here on out?

I figured they wouldn't interview people if there wasn't still room... so i didn't ask... plus Jan. interviewers said they were only half full.. I assume the closer we get to April 30 the more will know were we stand. But hang in there.. No answer is better than a quick rejection lol.

Just got the call 30 mins ago. IS. such a long journey! happy to answer questions.
Congrats bro! Interviews Jan 4. I have been waiting 8 weeks....No word yet. People who Interviewed Jan 8. already heard back. I am confused here. I thought It was first come first serve. Do you have any Idea why they taking so long? thanks.

It took me 12 weeks to hear. Thankfully it wasn't a rejection or a wait-list. I can only say that the director of admission told our summer info session group that certain candidates which the school perceives to match to their mission exceptionally well get an expedited review after they interview. What this means to me is that they cherry pick, and this behavior is probably worse towards the end of the cycle.

Does anybody know how good of a school Minnesota is? I've heard it is supposed to be really good. Is it in the top 10%?

It's an amazing school! I don't know which rankings you are most interested in but StartClass has it ranked at #20 in the nation and at the same tier as other top med schools like Harvard, UPenn, UCLA, etc. The main difference is that it is more primary care oriented than research (although research is a HUGE focus of the school as well).

Btw, does anyone know approx. how it takes at this point in the cycle before we expect to hear back post-interview? How often do they hold adcom meetings? I interviewed on 1/25 and am so anxious to hear back from them!:nailbiting:

Could any current students share their experience with second look. What kind of information did the school share to either solidify your decision or change your opinion of the school? Was the shared information largely a reminder of topics covered during interview day or insightful new information? How was the day split in terms of presentations versus socializing/exploring time?
Thank you in advance for any info 🙂

Does anyone have insight into the medical fraternities? Seems like something unique to UMN (at least compared to the other schools I'm considering). I'm assuming (hoping) they aren't like undergrad fraternities...

Denied this morning. Interviewed 1/19.

In-state resident. 37 MCAT; 3.73 GPA cum laude from a top 10 liberal arts college. B.S. in Chemistry, B.A. Political Science.

Gap year spent scribing and volunteering in an impoverished, majority-minority region of the Southeast.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Wow, that's insane! Maybe they saw an acceptance from a better school and just assumed.

That is just crazy bro. If they denied you, I do not think I have a chance. I interviewed Jan 4 and still waiting a respond. I believe the admission committee met today and there will acceptance/wait list/rejections going out today and the coming days.

Interviewed back in November.
Was delayed and still haven't heard a peep.

Me too. It's my top choice and today was the 8 week mark for those of us who interviewed on 1/25. The anticipation is killing me 🙁
Just out of curiosity, why is the U of M your top choice?

The committee on Admission has 3 more deliberations left. I was told that we should start hearing something within the upcoming week. FYI I interviewed 01/19.

Thanks for checking. The upcoming week as in this week, or next week?

I did not want to play the semantic game. So, I let it go. No matter what we should hear something by the end of the month.

Second look was great! I was already going to MN before second look so it was purely a chance to meet classmates and get to know a little more about the school. I went to UMN for undergrad so much of the presentations about housing, things to do and life in the Twin Cities were all well known to me. They would be really helpful to people unfamiliar with the area. One presentation featured the day to day life of a med student which was very insightful.

Some of second look goes over things covered on interview day which can be a drag, but it was a nice break from all the socializing. You will have plenty of time to socialize with students. There are also periodic social events after second look posted on your class Facebook page that are worth considering if you are in the area.

Wait-listed, interviewed 1/25. Just got the email. 🙁

Honestly, what are the chances of an OOS applicant getting off the wait-list at this point?

Me too. 🙁 What I don't understand is what the main difference between the wait list and ranked alternate list is. Does it basically mean they are deferring their decision for a bit longer?

Yeah, the email says "Being placed in the wait list category means that a final decision on your application will be made at a later date in the cycle. The next time you are notified of a decision you will be informed in writing as to whether you have been accepted to the class, placed on the ranked Alternate List, or not accepted."

*Sigh* The wait continues. I really hope being wait-listed doesn't mean it's most likely an eventual rejection. :nailbiting::dead:

Anyone have any insight on how much the wait-list 'moves' after rankings are released? I know it varies from one application cycle to the next, but just wondering if I should still have my hopes up for an acceptance here or if I should be planning for a rejection.

IS, interviewed: November, WL: January
