2015-2016 University of Missouri - Columbia Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It has been exactly 14 days since I turned in my OOS form and received confirmation (so this might be a little premature). Did it take longer than 2 weeks to hear back about a secondary for anyone?
I heard back exactly on the 14 day mark. Not sure if it matters in your case but it was 14 days after receiving confirmation not 14 days after I submitted the form.

No II's yet? This thread seems pretty quiet...
They don't start interviewing students for regular admissions until October at Mizzou. That, and it's possible the people getting IIs aren't on SDN 😛

Rejected today, OOS form confirmation of receipt on 08/05
LizzyM 72.2, no real strong ties to Columbia

This is the first I've heard from any of my schools, but will try not to get too hung up about it seeing as Columbia is super IS

Good luck to everyone with this cycle!

Don't feel bad about it, I got that too and I have had 13 family members attend mizzou, figured the least they could do is send me a secondary, oh well!

For the secondary, is the only way to make your fee payment through the mail?

That or walk into their office and give it to them

I have approval from FAP, but I sent my check in the mail already. Was hoping they would waive the fee. Oh well.

In case anyone was wondering, the first post about an II last year was on 9/04. Any day now...

They do waiver the fee. I called and was told to mail a copy of the FAP approval email along with the mail in form

IS applicant. I submitted my secondary mid July and was informed that my file was complete at the beginning of August. When I called in late July they told me that only about 70 applications were considered complete. I'm going nuts waiting to hear back on interviews!

Same here. Compared to last year, the first wave of IIs should be either this week or next.

I also received my secondary app in mid-July, completed it within a day, and received notification of app completion in early August, so I think we might be right behind the first group of verified applicants. (Edit: we're probably behind Mizzou UG students who didn't have to mail in their application fee.)

Good luck to you Ski! Last year they interviewed 324 out of 510 IS applicants, and 87 matriculated. Here's to at least getting that II!!

MU just gives me such a great feeling! It's definitely my top choice. Yes, it sounds like emails for interviews went out around the first week of Sepyember last year. I sure hope we both get those soon! Best of luck to you!

So no one has gotten an interview here yet?

No word on my end.

Well maybe they are just running slightly behind this year.

I would be very surprised if no one on SDN were getting II's from this school.

Of course not that many people apply to Mizzou (only about 1900) so I guess it wouldnt be a total shocker.

I haven't heard anything back from them yet.

So who's going to call them and ask what's the deal?

*touches nose* Not it.

Did Mizzou send out secondaries before applications were verified?

Haha I'm going to suggest that nobody call them because I bet it will only annoy them...they will send them out when they send them out. I promise if I get one you guys will be one of the first to know.

Have patience and find some peace in the fact that you have completed your part in this awful, tedious process of applying to medical school. It's early so don't start worrying about no II's until like, December. If you are IS you have an excellent shot of being interviewed at Mizzou.

Completed August 7th, Instate applicant.

I got an email August 6th from MU saying that my file was incomplete and to send in anything they had/would request to complete my file. After waiting to get an email stating what I was missing a while, I sent an email asking what was up, only to get an "oops, my bad. You are complete" email. That means I wasn't marked as complete for an extra few weeks. Hope this doesn't hurt me too much. I was really hoping to be involved in the first wave of interviews.

Why's that?

@Yojimbo_OGT Was probably complete before RedStone, and he didnt get an II yet like Redstone did.

But of course, I'm applying to a lot of different schools, and this has been happening in almost every school thread. So its probably illogical for us to panic about not getting an II. They probably just started sending them out this week. In fact Red Stone is a re applicant so they are probably already familiar with his file and made a decision on his before going to the new applicants. Plus hes the only one with an II right now in this entire thread.

Or I could just be wishful thinking and me and Yojimbo are actually just boned. lol. I would be so sad.

only 70? Wow.

I guess that kind of does make sense. If you compare the amount of applications that are sent to the average school, MU hardly gets any applications. Only 1900 total applications a year. Most schools get 3k to 5k applications, and many schools get 7k-13k applications a year.

Yep Same here. He is a reapplicant though, so maybe they go through reapplicants first? Probably wishful thinking.

In all fairness, I went the early decision route. That's why I have an interview already.

Ah! That would explain a lot. Thats the primary reason then.

I actually wanted to apply early decision as well, but I missed the MCAT cutoff for early decision by 1 point.

So as long as you make the MCAT and GPA cutoff, will you get an II by default if you are in-state?

It used to be a 28 and 3.5 and if you were IS, you get a guaranteed interview. Apparently they got rid of that. 🙁

What do you mean they got rid of that?? 28mcat and 4.0 GPA, really hoping for an interview...

Quite simply just that they do not give automatic interviews anymore. A few years ago, they used to give automatic interview invitations to those applicants with a gpa of 3.5+ and a MCAT score of 28+. This does not mean you wont get an interview as your stats are fine for this school, but just that you are not guaranteed an interview with a 28 and 4.0.

Now they dont. Now its just like any other medical school admissions process where numbers alone are not enough to get an automatic interview. The idea of an automatic interview is not prevalent in med school admissions unless one does well in a SMP program linked to that particular school.

Regular applicants, I wouldn't stress out about not hearing anything on interviews for awhile. They only gave me 12 days warning for my early decision interview this month.

I see. Man that is really short notice.

When do you interview? I am early decision as well. I interview on the 24th!
I believe that is the only day they do early decision. So I suppose I'll see you there!

Incoming M1 who was accepted 3 days after interview last year and with pretty low GPA and everything. Feel free to ask me questions about MU or for help or anything 🙂
Hi. I was hoping if you could tell me if Mizzou has an emphasis on primary care over research?

Hey, I know I'm not the person you asked, but Mizzou has a very strong emphasis on primary care, especially rural medicine.

No, thank you! Any input I can get is good. Did they ask at all if you are interested in research during your interview (not sure if you have been yet)?

Submitted my OOS form last week and was just informed that I won't be considered any further! Figured it was a long shot because of in state emphasis. Just wanted to give those other OOS peeps a heads up! Good luck everyone 🙂

Yikes! That's quite the turnaround... sorry to here that. (Almost as if they didn't really consider you - OOS II queue already full?)

On the bright side, no purgatory torture like the rest of us are facing 🙁

Man you said it. I'm usually a patient guy, but wow... I check my email all the time! All in due time, though.

Are you two OOS or IS?
