Exactly.

Anecdotally, I knew an applicant in years past who was straight up rejected by ECU and ended up at a top 10 school

I got a FAFSA email in October and November but that's it. I'm hoping that isn't a bad sign.
 
Did you receive FAFSA emails from both Denitra Price and John Wagner or just Denitra?

I understand how neurotic this sounds, by the way.

Both emails I received were from just Denitra.
 
FAFSA emails are never indicative of your application status. They send them to everyone who has interviewed and hasn't been rejected.

Source: I got ten billion FAFSA emails last time I applied and was still rejected.

Is it possible to still get them after one has been rejected? Just trying to gauge how worried I should be lol
 
I was flat out rejected from ECU but was accepted to UNC this cycle, so your ECU application status has nothing to do with your odds of getting into UNC. I was accepted this Tuesday and still haven't received an email, letter, and my connectcarolina status hasn't changed. So you get the call way before you'll know any other way. Hang in there guys, its a gigantic mind-**** waiting game, but you gotta funnel that crazy into other things until the time passes-- easier said than done, i know

Congrats!!! If you don't mind me asking, when did you interview at UNC?
 
January 27th. so for me this wasn't a waiting game at all like for most of you. But i waited since July for my interview so that was where the wait got to my head
 
do u guys know if the waiting game is even longer for re-applicants considering there's some subcommittee for re-applicants (I think I read it in this thread somewhere before?) Heartfelt congrats to all you who got in!! :clap::soexcited::highfive:

Dont want to be captain obvious here but I think the process is longer for reapps is because the committee has to make sure they are comparing an applicants current application with previous ones whereas first time apps are looked at once...that being said how long it takes totally depends case by case
 
The way I understand it, the reapplicants are looked at by a different committee to match their applications up to previous applications and compare them. They look and see if you've improved, if you took their advice during your exit interview, etc. If the answer is yes, I believe you are forwarded to the regular committee. That extra step is what causes the process to be longer for reapplicants than for first-timers.

It is well known that the parking situation at UNC is horrific at best; I recommend having a car (at an off-campus apartment) in case you need it, but use the free bus system if possible. All the public transportation is very modern, clean, well-maintained, and there is an app/website that tells you when the next bus will be at a particular stop. Like @Pazuzulu mentioned above, most parking on campus is free after 5pm; before that, you will have to purchase a permit. I do not recommend this. They are expensive, sell out quickly, and you have to move your car for game days. Buses typically will run off-campus until 7-9 pm, depending on the bus route.

If you're into fitness or biking, riding a bike to campus is also a good option. Chapel Hill is very bike-friendly with lots of racks and bike lanes (they even have mounts for bikes on front of the bus).

I'm an undergrad at UNC, so I'm not sure if it changes for med students but I figured I'd toss in my two cents! There are a ton of bus routes (free!), though a lot of them don't run past 8:00 or so. You can get parking, but spots are expensive. You can also find free spots after 5PM on weekdays and on weekends. My roommate doesn't have a car, and she travels from a few miles off campus via bus every day-- gets around just fine. I drive, but the bussing system is pretty good, and I use it sometimes even though I have a car. In general, the parking situation is pretty grim. And the traffic on game days is... rough.

Thank you both for the insight. Trying to find a place walkable from campus but it looks like both the warehouse and lux are all booked for the upcoming yr 🙁

One thing to keep in mind too is that apartments on/super close to Franklin street are crazy expensive. Renting one room of a 2 bedroom apartment at Warehouse is over $900 per month, and you have to share a bathroom. And that's about standard. Things get much cheaper a little bit further from campus. Obviously the convenience is worth it to a lot of people, though, in which case Shortbread Lofts might be an option, if you haven't checked it out already?

just opened up my snail mailbox and found a huge packet, only to realize it was the certiphi screening background check report.
 
Does anyone know when interviews will be over? Hopefully we will see more movement then...
 
it may be more of a silly question but are we supposed to include med schools that we've interviewed at for FAFSA or JUST the ones that accepted us? out of the places I've interviewed, only UNC SOM is the one who's been sending those reminders without any decision post interview yet.

You include everywhere that you might attend. That way when you get that acceptance you'll be all set to get those loans

The convenience would be worth it for me too... I looked into shortbread lofts, and they didn't have a 1br/1 ba available... I'm running out of options 🙁 I found University Apartments yesterday but they seem to have bad reviews, so a bit skeptical on that one. Have you heard anything on university apartments/do you think it'd be a good option?

I don't know anyone who's lived there, sorry... One bedrooms within walking distance to campus are sort of limited, and I don't have much experience with them since all of my friends and I have at least one roommate.

When is the second look day again for UNC? Most of the med schools are in early April no?
 
For those who have been rejected, or know, when does the rejection email come? On Mondays or later in the week? *bracing myself*
