I'm fully aware that they are selective with their secondaries, but you'd think they would make a little bit more of an effort to give competitive applicants a secondary. Fortunately I have other interviews at other schools I really like, but had they processed my application earlier there would be a much better chance of getting me at their school compared to elsewhere.

I just think they should be more up front about how seriously they prioritize IS application timelines. When I was there, I was pretty much told that this is the start of the season for OOSers. I wouldn't have minded waiting so much if they had been up front about that beyond the general 'we are a public school' thing.

That's curious, I am OOS and was accepted 10/16. Interviewed in Sept.

That's not what I was told either. They said that about 25 OOS and 25 IS were accepted at each acceptance day, so the OOS timeline can't be too far behind the IS.

MCV isn't prompt with their applications because they put a lot of time in holistic screening without putting emphasis on numbers. Everyone keeps complaining about how long it takes, and I get it - but the tradeoff in time v. holistic application review is worth it. Why don't you guys get that?

I am definitely a fan of their holistic review, don't get me wrong, but it is definitely frustrating to wait over 16 weeks for a response to my primary application, which has allegedly been under review for over 5 weeks. My main concern is that if it takes equally as long to get my secondary reviewed (if I do end up receiving one)...then it'll be April if I receive an II. Which isn't possible. So I'm just not sure how that works.

FWIW, the first time I applied a few years ago, I finished in the screen in December and was granted an interview then (for Feb). I also feel if VCU is backed up, they'll take that into account and extend the interview dates. And to be fair, this isn't just specific to VCU, I haven't heard back from 10 other schools I applied to. At least with MCV, there's more transparency as to where your application is.

Were you IN or OOS? Also been @ the screening phase since July. Havent lost hope since I got a secondary, but yea the wait sucks lol. How do you like MCV?

:shrug: That's just what they told me. It is possible that they've interviewed more IS students and really just the beginning of the OOS crowd (the ones they liked best). Interview rates don't have to be equal just because acceptances are. Then again, maybe it's just a proportions thing...how many IS apply vs OOS? Maybe they do them equally until they've seen the ISers, then they start seeing more OOSers? I dunno.
 
Are any accepted IS students of the traditional variety, as in you are presently a senior in college?

It sounds like some Adcom members are reviewing applications offering interviews presenting applicants to the committee and students are being admitted. It also sounds like some Adcom members are not reviewing Applications and letting them just sit. Unfortunately it's mid December and the interview spots will all be taken soon. No one wants to be rejected because they were assigned to an Adcom member who never reviewed their application.
 
So I it's probably a question that might have been answered a while back, but I recently (today) received an update that reads, "The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview, you will be notified by e-mail in March."

I know it's kinda late in the cycle, but, historically, what is the likelihood of landing an interview at this point? Has anyone heard good news from this status update?

Yeah, plenty of applicants have received interviews with that status.

Ah, good to know, thanks! Though that's still a different situation since you'd at least received a secondary by this time. 🙂 That's the ONLY reason why I'm so frustrated with VCU in particular: I also have yet to hear back from 10 schools, but at least with them I've already sent in my secondaries.

But I do agree that VCU is one of the more transparent schools, and I do appreciate that very much.

The interview spots will not all be taken soon. That is something the adcoms were very clear about when I was there. There are interviews available through March, and they stagger their acceptances out so that you are never interviewing for a spot on the waitlist. They even have a scholarship available for the last person admitted!
 
Received the post-interview hold last night! Getting nervous for the 15th :nailbiting:
 
Did anyone receive the post interview hold email twice? I got it on Dec 2 and again on Dec 11. I don't know if it means anything...

After you have been scored post interview, I believe candidates with priority scores of 1, 2 or 3 are placed on this post-interview hold (your message in the portal changes) for possible admission, and any priority score 4 or 5 candidates are rejected.

"The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for possible acceptance at a later date. We anticipate making offers around October 16, December 15, February 1, and March 16. If any of these dates falls on a weekend the offers will be made on the following Monday. Only offers of admission will be made on the dates above.

Your profile will remain on hold, and you will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change you will be contacted about will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list (the alternate list is formulated in late-March), or to notify you that the Committee will no longer be considering your file."
 
I'm curious if anyone has actually been rejected outright post-interview though. I've only ever seen people getting the hold, but then again obviously not 100% of applicants are here on SDN.

I don't think so. My understanding is that acceptances hear on one of the 4 dates, and no one else hears anything until after that. So post-interview rejections won't hear till after March 16. But I could be wrong?

OOS and Complete since the beginning of August, the sub-committee has yet to review my application and secondary. Lol.

Theoretically, if your priority score is low enough you wouldn't even get a post-interview hold and would get rejected outright, meaning you wouldn't even have the pleasure of waiting for their 4 dates 😉 But like I said, I've never seen that happen, though admittedly I haven't spent any time scanning through last year's thread.

At least that's what I took away from their presentation after our interviews.
 
Interviewing tomorrow so phone will be off all day wishing everyone good new - after all this work and getting to this point, it has to be good!!

Will it be tomorrow or the 16th? I keep hearing those 2 dates but not sure which one will be the big day... Sorry I know I'm neurotic...
 
Hey just barely got offered a secondary. I have had my app in since August. Is getting a secondary here mean you were screened and favored or does it just mean that my app got lost for a few months? Thanks
