Very not true... as a CMed student I can tell you about CMed's mission mindedness and tell you there is a definitely a chance of an II or acceptance from UMich and not CMed. The schools have the same goal of producing great doctors, but they are in very different settings with a different style of education, community, and hopes for where their students go after graduation (CMed's mission and acceptance trends are clearly for the under served and primary care). Does this mean that you can't be a surgeon or nephrologist or other specialist if you attend CMed, of course not, and you are encouraged to pursue whatever field you are called to. However, if you come to an interview or submit an application that is heavily driven towards competitiveness and a field like neuro or plastic surgery... UMich may love it, CMed might wonder if you'd be a good fit.
Not to say UMich doesn't produce amazing primary doctors for under served areas, nor that CMed wouldn't help educate an amazing neurosurgeon...
However, this does explain why CMed is some people's dream school, why some of my classmates chose CMed above places like MSU and UMich (where they also held acceptances).
