I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that the role of a physician is more important than others in a community. They didn't ask if physicians themselves are more important, nor did they ask if a physician's role is more important than all others. They asked if a physician's function as a member of a community is more important than some others, which I think, objectively, it is. I guess I'm just trying to say that the question is open to interpretation, and it doesn't make someone an elitist to articulate that a physician maintains a role which supersedes many others within the community.
tl;dr: Doctors are very important and there's no sense in pretending we don't believe so to give the false appearance of altruism.
