Anyone think calls might go out today?

I doubt it since they usually send out portal updates a day after calls (not sure they would do that on a Saturday) and it sounds like everything was shut down there yesterday with the snow. That being said I'm definitely hoping calls do come out.

I definitely think start with his book "a supposedly fun thing I'll never do again" which is a collection of his essays and then if you like his writing you could take on the tour de force that is Infinite Jest

His essay Authority and American Usage is my all time favorite essay--I bonded with my Pritzker interviewer about it! It's pretty dense though (it'll make you a grammar/style nerd), and I think "Big Red Son" really epitomizes how hilarious and brutal he can be. But Infinite Jest is obviously his magnum opus and my fav book.

Sooo @WedgeDawg @PS2020 any inside info on whether or not they're going to announce decisions today?

Same as Wedgedawg. 0 inside info. But I can make an effort and inquire on Monday after our exam. Last year I received the email to "update my file" on 2/5/16 at around 9:30AM and received my decision email on 2/12/16 before noon (stating that the decision update is in the portal). We are approaching that time now. I really do think that next week will be a big one for you guys. Stay strong and enjoy the weekend. As I said with nearly every message on this thread, the cycle for P&S is not over in February. Stay positive!

I don't think they sent acceptances already, but I received a likely letter from Dr. Stephen Nicholas.

You received something today? And what do you mean by a 'likely letter'? As in, a response to an update/thank you that said something about likely acceptance?

Received it last week. I never sent him a thank you letter/email and I actually never met him. He wrote to say that it is too early to tell how things will go, but to assure me that the admissions committee will keep me strongly in mind.

Got it, if that's all he sent then it's probably the same form letter that we all got in response to updates/thank you's. Mine has that same sentence, verbatim. As far as I can tell there's some variation but likely 3-4 standard letters. Weird that your's came unprompted, though.

Edit: CoffeeMug13 beat me to it

People get that generic response when they send in thank you letters. It's weird if you didn't send one though...

That letter almost got me in tears, until I heard that it was standardized. But who knows, maybe it is a likely letter. We will see.

I think he just meant he never emailed the dean himself a thank you note. Most of us got an email from him thanking us for thanking our interviewers, though, so maybe that's why he got this email.

How long ago did you send it? I got the response letter sent from the admissions office nearly two months after I uploaded the thank you email to the portal?

Over four months ago. I'm not concerned. I know they got it, and there's no way they were already making a decision on my application that long ago. Just a bit of arbitrary fluff to obsess over.

Oh for sh*ts sake. First Mayo, now Columbia?

Can we stop with likely letters and just wait until decision day to tell people things?

lol literally everyone got that, check a couple pages before

idk if it would be more savage for them to release decisions on valentine's day or to make us wait til the end of the week

Everyone did not get that letter. I received responses for thank you letter upload and two additional updates but all three just said your recently uploaded update has been received. That's it. So maybe the letter is special

"Any day now", confirms what you all already knew.
