2016-2017 Jefferson Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Awesome, I hope theirs is like that! That sounds so much better than what I had. Mine was like I was rambling without much conversation from them and it was very unsettling and weird. That's reassuring that some aren't like that, so fingers crossed!
Yeah I think it really depends on how personable your interviewer is. Based on how the Jefferson staff seem, I don't think that will be a problem. Best of luck to the both of us (and everyone else)!

Not sure when but my portal now says "interview to be scheduled".

Any idea on time table here? Want to get transport and stuff figured out
Mine was scheduled a few hours later. I had to change it, but I called right away and it was changed within the hour that I got my day assigned.

In theory yes. Security was a PAIN today so just make sure you're aware of that. I would recommend leaving Jefferson and heading to the airport around 3:30 at the latest. Should give you plenty of time to say hello to Dr. Brooks and Dr. Callahan.

In my opinion the best $75 you can spend is getting TSA Pre-Check. It's good for 5 years, so it will cover both med school interview season and residency interview season during 4th year. You get to go through the shorter security line and keep your shoes on, so if you're running late for your flight you don't have to worry as much. Some airports/terminals don't offer it (e.g. Newark... one of the worst airports in America). But in most of the major airports, including PHL, you're good to go.

Whelp, looks like it's $85 now :/ Still really convenient for those who travel pretty often, even excluding interview flights, lol.

Worth it even if you travel a handful of times throughout the year. There's no price you can put on being able to get to the airport an hour before your flight.

I have pre-check, actually, and it is a saving grace. However, I didn't realize that not all airlines participate. Frontier saved me money on my flight, but I was forced to wait in general security because Frontier doesn't do pre-check 🙁

I haven't done my Jefferson interview yet, but I interviewed at Georgetown which was also one-on-one. I don't remember if it was open or closed file, but my interviewer seemed way more interested in me than my application. They asked me questions regarding life, hobbies, opinions on the school, ACA, etc. If Jefferson is similar to that, it seems like they'll just be more interested in how you fit in with the school, which IMO, is the whole point of the interview. Sorry if this didn't explicitly answer your question, though!
I've mostly done MMIs thus far and had one interview like the one you described for Jefferson at another school. I didn't feel nearly as great about that one, so I'm a bit anxious about my Jefferson one. Have you had other ones like Jefferson that you can compare it to in terms of how you felt and how you interacted with the interviewers? Was it open file? I know at my traditional one they said it was closed file and then they mostly asked me about my file and not the essays I had written. Was it similar to that at Jefferson where they asked you to elaborate on your file? Thanks!

Hey all-MS1 at SKMC here. Jefferson has 2 interviews-1 student (completely closed file, all they know is your name) for a half hour and one faculty (open file-they will ask you about your app). The faculty all were chosen because they're very nice, kind, sane people and so no matter who you get they're extremely sweet. Jefferson doesn't do pressure interviews, they genuinely want to get to know you and put a face to a name. If I recall correctly, my interviewer and I talked activities I did in undergrad, what I was doing during my gap year, etc.
Also, the admissions deans do a great job of thoroughly going through every single app by hand, so by getting an interview they're already fairly sure that you'll fit in-the day is more of just "do they seem like they're app makes them out to be" and "are they normal/can hold a conversation/a nice, genuine person"
Also, for those wondering about cookie hour, it is by no means mandatory but I would recommend it, even if your there for 5 minutes. Just make sure you go up to Dr. Brooks and Dr. Callahan and introduce yourself.

I think that's really great that the student doesn't know your file! After all, I feel like the student interviews are less about what you've done and more about who you are as a person and how you get along with people that will be your classmates for years. Thanks for really settling my nerves about this format. It's great to see that the vibe I got from the website continues on into the atmosphere of the school and faculty. Seems like a very welcoming school.

Hi, do you guys remember if there was a question about if there is a family member attending here in secondary?

am I on hold?
No way to really know for sure. If you are offered an interview, it will change to "Interview to be Scheduled" and if you get rejected it will eventually change to "Interview Not Offered" (although I don't know how much they reject during the cycle)

Anyone else's "web application summary" says "This Web application is complete but has not yet been processed"??

I saw this was asked before and unanswered, and the search function yielded little results..

Is there any way to send an update (via portal or by an email to the admissions committee)?

I emailed them an update a while back and this was the response I received,

"Thank you for your recent email. If you are an applicant, please accept this email as "confirmation" we received your update and it will be added to your file. Response time to other emails may experience a delay due to the volume of emails. Thank you for your patience and interest in Sidney Kimmel Medical College."

Did you really apply to 50 schools? That's so many secondaries :dead:

Im interested in getting this. But how do you feel comfortable going to the Airport a hour before the flight? What if the airport normally have pre-check line but they dont have it on a particular day. You run the risk of missing you flight which will be way more expensive that the price of TSA pre-check

I still get there 2 hours early, I just don't deal with the hassle of TSA.

How long does it take to receive the secondary application from Jeff after the initial AMCAS application was submitted? I haven't received mine yet and my AMCAS application was submitted almost 2 weeks ago...

After two weeks I had to email them for it to be sent.

I love that you ask this, knowing full well that all of us will rush to check our portals no matter the response

Well I forgot my login info so I am checking if I should spend time trying to remember my password or just wait for an email.....

I was just looking through my email, and noticed that they sent my application pin via email. Maybe you can search your inbox or trash for the email if you're interested on checking your status via the portal.
