2016-2017 New York University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not trying to be a dick but honest question here. When something good happens to them, why do people say theyve been humbled?

I can see why but if anything it can still be sooo hard and unpredictable getting into places post interview that I don't breathe or celebrate until I have an actual acceptance letter in my hand.

Anybody else not see a submit button on the II page?

Edit: never mind I was doing it on a phone so it wasn't cooperating. Computer worked

Does anyone know if we can start filling out the tertiary application after the interview? Or should we wait until January when they give us final decisions?

You can fill it out any time, but they will only consider you if you are offered an acceptance.

Have there been e-mails for webinars or just the twitter discussions?

For people who have already interviewed here: is there a place to leave a bag? Also, do I need to bring my ID? I know some schools ask for your ID and I recently lost mine

Yep there is a luggage room. No, you don't need an ID

Any chance that first decisions go out next week? I know that they said January, but the past few years they've released some decisions the week of Veterans day

A while ago we were explicitly told all decisions will go out in one bunch at the end of January and that they're not rolling this year

Does NYU receive ITA e-mails positively? I have another interview at the end of Nov. ITA and I would like to send them an ITA email. But I was complete late sept. so i dont know if its such a good idea to send them one

Weird, at the end of our day they said maybe end of Nov but def by December. Maybe they changed their minds. I interviewed early September.

I was in mid-October and they said January. So annoying. They need to stop playing with our hearts

Same here and I was also mid October. Maybe they just don't want people freaking out early so they said a later date? (Although people will still be freaking out... lol)

I've just seen in the forums of previous years that people comment that decisions won't be released until January, when in reality the people who interviewed in September hear back in early November

Maybe they are telling people different dates based on when they interviewed. That would make sense with what you are saying. I guess we will find out if this is the case soon either way.

You mean in previous threads they've also been told Jan but November? Or people are saying January NOW and past threads are different?

I've stated this before, but medical students I met during my interview this year said they were told the same thing we have been told this year (which is that admissions decisions will come out in January). For them, many of them got decisions in November-December. So, it is likely the same thing will happen this year (hopefully).

Oh boy I really hope so. Thanks for the response, haven't been following this thread.

Do you know when it started?

Someone looked at last year's thread and said around Veterans' Day which is next week! But who knows...

Just looked at it. Oct 23 was the first date. I don't have high hopes because I remember them saying they aren't rolling admissions anymore. Oh well. I'm going to assume January and if anything occurs before then I'll be happily surprised.

Website still says rolling admissions.
"Acceptance letters will be sent out on a rolling basis. All applicants will be notified of their final decision in January."

I wonder if they would share if someone just called tho

My friend also found out in November and was told January, so we can only hope they start releasing in the near future.

II!!

Complete late sept. LM: 77-78, OOS

I am so excited! I really want to school in the city!! Anyone have any advice for MMI's? This will be my first one 🙁

Congrats!! Do you know what dates they are currently scheduling for?

II!!!!!!!!
-LizzyM ~74 OOS, complete late September.
-As far as scheduling, there was a spot available tomorrow (lol), the 22nd and then the two week window of 28th to Dec 8th (M-Th of both weeks). So still a lot of spots left it seems!
-So surprised and so thankful for the opportunity.

I'm having a hard time choosing my interview date. Any idea how much rolling admissions plays a role here? Should I be going for earlier dates if possible? First MMI for me too, so I'm trying to figure out time for preparation vs earliness..

Anyone's advice is appreciated

The consensus currently, until we hear otherwise, is that there are no rolling admissions this cycle. We'll all find out in January

You can't really prepare for MMI

It is no longer rolling admissions.

It is no longer rolling admissions.

How do you know for sure...? On my interview day the admissions director clearly said "everyone will know of their admission decision in January" and someone asked her to clarify if she meant everyone will know *by* January or no one will know until January, and she just repeated what she said initially. To me that meant she was implying the former but I'm getting the impression this was what everyone heard so...clearly a lot of disagreement here. Are you saying it's no longer rolling admissions because someone explicitly told you so? (I'm also inclined to think it's still rolling based on what the admissions website says)

My interview group was explicitly told it was nonrolling back in October.

At my interview day in Sept., Dean Rivera told us as a group that typically NYU does rolling... but that "this year, we are going to change things up and let everyone know their decision at the same time." "Everyone will know by January 21st at the absolute latest." It's not rolling anymore (unless they completely changed their minds on this). We will find out all at once, when ALL interviews are over... aka January. We all need to take a deep breath, relax, and stop debating this.

Does NYU accept updates? and would this be on the Additional Information tab?

If you're asking about figures of speech, yes, people say stuff like "I was extremely humbled to be offered the opportunity to... blah blah blah"
