2016-2017 Quinnipiac University (Netter) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi there!

Congrats to everyone with II's!

Mine is next Friday. I'm flying into Tweed from Ft Lauderdale, Fl. Is Uber a good way to get around in New Haven/Quinnipiac area? I also researched their Metro Taxi cabs and their public transit. Any locals recommend one over the other?

I'm from Miami, Fl so not used to not having my car around xD

I used taxis to get to and from the airport and Uber to get from my hotel to the med school. Both are very accessible.

Does Quinnipiac send out rejections pre-II or do they leave you hanging?

I don't know if anyone answered your question, but they do send out pre-secondary rejections. The admissions committee will look at all the applicants and determine the application holistically.

Uber would probably the best way to get to the campus. Sometimes there will not be any taxis at Tweed, so you would have to call. We uber all the time here.

Does anyone know the percentage of applicants who receive II after being sent the secondary? Is it very high?

Last year there were 376 II's out of 7086 verified apps. Not sure if that includes secondaries. But I doubt the overall percentage is more than 10% regardless.

I have an interview then as well, I look forward to meeting you! 🙂

Does anyone know if labs are required for EACH of the science courses we list? In other words, is there a 1 year lab requirement for each?

Is anybody flying into Bradley this Sunday evening and want to split an uber into New Haven?

I don't think there were 376 II. We usually interview about 500-700 students a cycle. If you got a secondary, it's a good sign because admissions look at your app holistically.

Does anyone know the approximate percentage of applicants they send the secondary to?

Any news/updates/movements here? Seems eerily quiet on this thread :dead:

I think it this one tends to be a more end-of-the-cycle school IIRC

Anyone interviewing next Friday? I'll be taking a train from NYC on Thursday afternoon and will need to uber from New Haven. Would be great to split the cost.

Yes! They have a coat room where you can store luggage during the day.

Hi everyone! I'm an M1 here at Netter, and so far it's been a whirlwind of material but also quite fun. We just had our first exam last week, so I have some time to lurk around here and answer any questions you may have! Feel free to tag me in a question or message me privately.

Pro tip: for the optional essays, do 1. Advice to your younger self and 2. Something you are most proud of. Why? Because the dean of admissions said they are his favorite to read at our interview today. He's also scary good at remembering pieces of your app.

Dr. Yeckel is REALLY good at remembering information about applicants, interviewees, and current students, and he enjoys testing his memory by asking you about random/interesting parts of your application. It's actually really cool.

I interviewed here a few weeks ago and I can attest to that. He is freakishly good at remembering things about the applicants. It was really cool!

Interviewing here on Friday. Any advice on how to prepare? Other than the obvious things like knowing your application front to back and researching details specific about the school.

Think about some common interview questions like why medicine, most meaningful community service experience, etc. Then have a beer, relax, and be yourself.

I'll see you there! Good luck 🙂

The three questions that I found most useful to prepare for were "Tell me about yourself," "Why medicine?" and "Why Quinnipiac?" Most of my interviews ended up stemming from those three questions, and if you have an idea of what kinds of things you'd want to say in response, you're in good shape. (Obviously don't try to memorize what answers you want to give; scriptedness is very obvious to interviewers.)

So what are the chances of receiving an interview invite if you received a secondary? i know for Hofstra its not so high...

With the exception of Cali schools, most applicants receive a secondary. Even if schools have cutoffs it's usually fairly low like ~3.0 GPA and >24 MCAT. Not quite sure what you were asking.

sorry, double posted and I don't know how to delete
