I had very similar feelings after interviewing at both schools in the same week. Although, in my experience at SB, the other interviewees and tour guides were generally friendly and outgoing, but the people seemed to be much more full of themselves at SB. The interviewees spent most of the time talking about other places they interviewed at and their impressive sounding research/ other experiences. I am also from LI (south shore, Nassau.) I also didn't really like how everyone seemed to hate on the area SB is in.. BUT I was personally impressed with the school itself and faculty I met. 4 to 1 Anatomy labs is nice and SB does have a good reputation.

At upstate people were a lot more laid back and I think likely to be more collaborative. No one was bragging about all of their interviews or impressive ECs.

On paper I always thought SB would be at the top of my list but after visiting both IDK, I might be leaning more towards upstate. They are both fantastic IMO and I would be overjoyed to go to either. I would definitely need to do some second looks though before deciding!

I finally reached a point where I stopped checking SDN, reddit, and the portal. It's easy to say retrospectively, but checking it will not influence the timeliness of your decision.

It was relieving to not "care" enough to check anymore.

Easier said than done lol. I wish I could be that way. I interviewed 11/16, fell in love with the school. I have a long wait ahead of me if people from October are still waiting.

I'm interviewing next week. Here's to good news in the spring!
 
I received an email saying that they would review my application again sometime after December 1. Would it be acceptable to send them an update letter? I could update them on the Masters program I've started and the researcher and leadership positions I've gotten since starting the program.

It's been 6 weeks since we departed from Syracuse. Our food rations have run out. I do not know how much longer we can last, many of the crew members are becoming restless. If we do not hear news soon, I am afraid of the horrible fate that may befall me and my crew. Everyday at sunrise, I walk 2 miles to check on the portal in hopes that there may finally be a sign of rescue on the way. Everyday I return to the camp empty-handed, and everyday I see the flame within the crew that has kept them going, become a little dimmer. I will forge on and keep making my trips to the portal however I fear that one day I will return to an empty campsite. God help us.

It's my understanding that they don't look at the pre-interview hold people until December at the earliest. I heard back in early January with an II, so as nerve wracking as it is, try to sit tight a little longer.
 
Hello, all! I found out on Wednesday (30 Nov 2016), that I was accepted to the MD/PhD program (got a phone call)! Our interview process is totally different and I think a different committee of faculty review our portfolios, so I'm not sure if that helps anyone out haha but I'm very excited! Good luck to everyone!

For those who were interviewed in October, were you also told that you would hear back with a decision in 2-3 weeks? I interviewed on 11/14 and that was what they told us but clearly that has not happened for all of you. I am just curious and super excited to hear back because I LOVE this school. Hoping very hard to see you all in August. Best of luck.

I interviewed 11/16. They said normally the wait is 2 weeks, but they said right now, the wait is looking like 4 weeks, but we should hear back in 1 month max.

Just to clarify, within one month from now, not one month from the interview date. JW indicated by the 1st of the new year at our info session.
I am certainly hoping to find out in the 3-4 week mark from our interview day though.

And @N.E.R.D.7007 I think I can guess who you are from the interview day... hoping you get accepted!

I interviewed in mid October. Still waiting. Hopeful for this week...!
 
Will be interviewing on Dec 7, does anyone want to share a cab to the airport after the interview day? I am interviewing in the 10:15 time group...

Oo geez. I hope we don't have to wait that long. Thank you very much!!! Best of luck to you as well!!! They should just accept all the October people Monday and then accept all the November people Thursday, just saying.

I interviewed right around that date as well, they said we should "go to committee as soon as the week after thanksgiving" but I guess that may not necessarily mean we will hear back that soon either.

I think I remember being told 2-4 weeks when I interviewed on 10/17. Still haven't had my portal clear 🤣. I wouldn't necessarily hold my breath although they could manage to get through a bunch and catch up before the holidays, who knows. Good luck!

Do you know of anyone else who went from Hold to II? It's quite rare for this school, at least based on SDN population.
 
Has anyone from the mid October interviews called admissions and asked what was going on and when they were aiming to respond with decisions?

I was going to wait at least till the end of this week. Some schools are super quick, but 6+ weeks isn't that uncommon it seems.

Now that you mention it, I don't personally know anyone else who had a similar situation in the class. At the same time though, no one really talks about this, and I know of maybe two other people's circumstances of acceptance.
 
When the portal cleared, how long after did the decision come in if anyone can give an approximation.
 
I have an interview at upstate early January, am I interviewing for the wait list at this point or do they still have spots? Also does anyone have a tips for me..

True... it'll be a pointless/awk conversation once you're already in. But after searching through the threads of the past 3 cycles, I believe you are the exception to the hold scenario on SDN. Upstate ain't showing me any love :yeahright:.
 
Baahhh I want to got to Upstate so bad. Word is the committee will meet in early January, so perhaps we'll all have good news pretty soon.

Does anyone have any recommendations with regard to thank you letters or post-interview updates? Do they make much of a difference?

At my interview they said it's ok to not send thank yous, since it's MMI there are too many separate people to thank. They encouraged for you to put an update letter in the portal, on the interview page.

What do you mean by the committee meets in January? So after they give out decisions for the portals that have cleared, they are not giving out any more decisions until January?
