Is the school library open 24/7? Are there good coffee shops around town to study?
 
I interviewed there last week. The library is not open 24/7 and it's admittedly small, but nice. I'm not sure about coffee shops

Has anyone heard of any prematches here since the initial prematch date?
 
Has anyone else noticed that the Cost of Attendance (COA) here is significantly higher than other Texas schools even though the tuition is pretty even among all the schools? Based on the MAR there is nearly a 5000 dollar difference a year in the COA for Texas Tech Lubbock ($45,602) and Texas Tech El Paso ($50,326), but tuition is essentially the same. From what I can gather they seem to allocate more money towards living expenses than other schools. However, I thought the cost of living in El Paso was pretty cheap compared to other places.

I am curious if there is there a reason for this difference. Are there more expenses at PLFSOM that justify this higher COA? Or do they simply allow you to take out more loans if you want?

If a current student or anyone really wouldn't mind sharing their thoughts on the subject that would be great!

They want you to spend generously and help the local economy.
 
Current students/residents, any suggestions on apartment complexes? Something a bit newer or at least renovated?

I love this school, but the only thing that is making me not rank it higher is El Paso. Not sure if it is the best city for my fiancee to find a good paying job there. Also, it's super far away from family. This is such a tough decision.
 
They won me over on interview day, the class size of 100 is great, the curriculum seems to be innovative, the unique border opportunities, the school was my first choice after the interview.

BUT

everyone has been emphasizing being close to "family", it even came up at my interview at El Paso. The interviewer literally said chose a place where you'll be able to pull through 2 years of grunt work with your "support" nearby.

Now here is the issue for me, I don't believe that my siblings or parents have ever been a "support base". It's usually just my school friends.

So I feel like I don't need to be near family, but what if I'm wrong? Idk

Same with me. You seem to have L ready figured out that you don't need to be close to your family for "support." I honestly don't even know what people mean by that lol. Like, do they still get homesick at this age?

Anyways, you seem to have found a school you will be comfortable at. From whay i saw durong the interview, the student body is really collaborative, so that could definitely provide the "support" one requires.
 
has anyone tried to reach out to PLFSOM recently trying to see if they would give any information before match day? Just curious to see if I should try contacting them to show interest and if they would give any info etc......

What kind of info? I tried contacting them twice about a second look but didn't hear back. Though the people who interviewed me have been very helpful in answering questions
 
I was wondering if anyone had asked about how many spots they had left or how acceptance letters they will be sending for match day.. Specifically for those who interviewed late in the season....

I believe they have 100 spots? They typically send out more acceptances than that to catch enough to fill their class. They don't truely know how many seats are filled until match since many people who accepted their pre-match will go elsewhere
