Hi everyone,

I interviewed at UCLA early this cycle and I have realized that is a great school! I'm still waiting to hear back from others schools, but reflecting on my experience there and the school itself, I realize I would be extremely happy attending. Based on reading this forum, it seems that the early batch of decisions are released around late December/January. If I don't hear back around this time, would it be appropriate to send a Letter of Intent? Does anyone know if UCLA is receptive to these emails and if sending a LOI boosts your chances?

Got a II today!!! Complete 9/26, CA resident. Lizzy M>75

Also for interviews does anyone know how far out they have been scheduling them lately? Want to see if I should put availability based on this quarter or next quarters schedule. Thank You.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to resurface this conversation? Please help!

II this morning!! Complete 10/1. Really surprised by the fast turn-around after waiting 3+ months for a secondary
in the exact same boat. can't say i'm complaining though 🙂

Haha I'm flattered but nope, LizzyM ~77 🙂 I do know a guy with LizzyM 80 who *just* received an invite though

Can confirm. LizzyM > 80, received II recently. Added to AMCAS in mid-September, ~1 day wait on secondary, complete sometime around the 20th.

From my understanding, the way it works is there are two committees, one for PRIME and one for the regular MD. If the PRIME committee thinks you fit their program, they send you a secondary, which will include the questions for both regular MD and PRIME. Since you received the Geffen invite, but not the PRIME one my guess would be that they didn't think you fit their program, BUT you are competitive enough to get a secondary for their regular MD.

In any case they mentioned that the last secondary invite they send is on October 17th so I would wait till then just to be 100% sure.

I did not say this happened to me. I applied PRIME and received the PRIME secondary two days later. From last year's thread it looks as though they didn't announce PRIME interviews until the deadline on the website for notification of II, which was Dec. 17th

I've only seen one person say they applied PRIME but received a Geffen interview. Since PRIME interviews are on set dates in Jan. And they count for both, it's obvious that that would signify they were passed up for PRIME.

What I am wondering is how many applicants that they don't want for PRIME will they pass over to Geffen before they announce PRIME interviews in mid-December. I am just concerned about the disadvantage if they "hold on" to people until mid-December, because if you are passed over to Geffen at that point it would be a significant disadvantage. Or are they keen enough to the timeline that they pass over files as soon as possible so they can still be considered for the regular MD program.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I am in the same position as you, received my application was complete mid September and two days later I got the secondary from PRIME.

From last year's UCLA DGSOM and PRIME threads, I get the feeling that the administration at UCLA received feedback regarding how the process was. Based on the updated PRIME website (from the faq), I feel that they will probably change things for this cycle. I am not exactly sure what this means though. My impression is that because they changed the last day they are sending and accepting secondary submissions (last year's late November vs this year's Nov 1st deadline), I feel that they will also send IIs earlier (hence in one part of their website they say something like process is "rolling" in the faq section).

Now for your real question, I am not sure as to how many people they pass from PRIME to DGSOM, but they said in their website that if you are deemed competitive for BOTH PRIME and DGSOM, then you get an interview at PRIME, which means that if you didn't, you just didn't cut it for one or the other. From this I would say you are being considered concurrently for both programs, hence if they think we don't fit PRIME, but we fit DGSOM, they will give us an interview.

To be honest, I am also worried about that disadvantage you are talking about (assuming they do wait till December to give interviews), but at this point all I can do is just speculate from the website and info from last year's threads. Or you know we could just call and ask...

Really? I thought lighter colors would be more popular over there. But thanks!

Since seasons don't exist here, most people just go for multipurpose year-round conservative dark business suits. It's uncommon to have dedicated summer suits in seersucker and whites, lights, or camels.

Wear whatever you feel flatters you/matches your style most. 🙂 Just like putting together an outfit on any other day, how you feel wearing your suit will make a visible difference on how you carry yourself and interact with others.

Navy seemed popular during my cycle. For whatever reason, I've been seeing a higher proportion of medium-dark gray/charcoal while interacting with this year's interviewees, although black and navy are still the most common so far. I have yet to see polka dots this cycle...

Anyone recieve an II and still waiting for them to get back to you with a date??? Waiting since mid september...

I haven't submitted my secondary because the disadvantaged form is taking a lot longer than I anticipated. It's been quite the challenge of gathering parents' income info from the 90s. Anyway, I was economically disadvantaged growing up. However, my parents recently inherited a lot of money and now have a chunk in the bank account. The form asks for the amount in their bank accounts and I am wondering if I should withdraw my disadvantaged status because of this. There is no room for me to explain this on the form so I'm lost on what to do. Help 🙁

I wouldn't withdraw. I had to dig up old tax records as well..I think a close estimate is good enough.
Money in the bank is considered differently than income, just be honest on the form and let them decide.
Ucla has a special committee for disadvantaged students and I recently got an II here as disadvantaged, so I would recommend you get it in asap 🙂

Hey, so I also have submitted as disadvantaged, and submitted my secondary Mid Sept.

I was wondering how long it took for you to receive an II after submitting your secondary.

I submitted secondary in July, letters went out mid September, and II happened last week

Also I was pretty sure the form said to use "last years 1040 form" so Im not sure if need to go as far back as the 90s to give info... or did I miss something and do mine completely wrong?

Money in bank account is different than income because it could have accumulated over YEARS!

Received II!!! Last Thursday. Immediately submitted availability and was provided a date early December. Good luck folks!
@ucla2015

For this cycle's interview format, was there a traditional one-on-one interview?
Thanks!

Are they still handing out secondaries? I would do anything for one lol

I think they are still sending secondaries for regular admissions. For PRIME today's the last day they are sending out secondaries.

Hang in there!

How long did it take for them to get the dates for the interview? I got an II last friday.
I got in II on Thursday and didn't submit availability until that evening because I was working. I called the office on Friday for a different reason and they mentioned that interviews will be scheduled around Tues or Wed this week.

Does prime screen? It seems like everyone who applied prime got a secondary
