Just got an II. Not sure if I will take it though because I have already been offered an acceptance elsewhere and I don't really know too much about Virginia to be honest. Those who have interviewed what was your opinion of this school in relation to other schools you interviewed at? I wouldn't want to take an interview that somebody else might appreciate more than I would.
I was infatuated by the school. Like, more than first crush infatuated. I have interviewed at BU, USC and Baylor since and cannot get over UVA. The host I stayed with was amazing and had nothing but amazing things to say about the school, the facilities are fantastic and new and encourage collaboration between students, the list goes on. In terms of comparisons to the other 3 I have been to, I liked the fact that UVA was on the undergrad campus so it still felt kinda young and collegiate. Not a huge factor, but at the other schools I did feel kinda separate from everything else.
I am from California and when I visited for my interview it was the first time I had ever stepped foot in Virginia, but that did not matter, I was so impressed. (Maybe because it reminded me of home though, with hiking trails, good food, etc!) Also, keep in mind that my love for UVA might be because I consider myself a laid back person and enjoyed the collaborative, non-competitive atmosphere.
To me, you really cannot beat a school with happy students. The dean we met made a great point, she t0ld us to notice that their admissions office is next to the lecture hall, surrounded by students. This is intentional, they want applicants to see how happy students there are. On my interview day every almost every student that saw us told us to go to UVA because they loved it so much. One kid sat in the waiting room with me +2 other interviewees during my break between interviews to answer any questions. We thought he was waiting there for a meeting or something but after 30 mins he said he had to go study...he was just sitting down to chat with us. I even asked him if they told him to do this (he cracked up and said no).
Sorry for the long ramble, but my point is I would strongly recommend going for an interview. It is incredibly impressive.
