2016-2017 University of Washington Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Still waiting on my residency verification. Lived in Washington my whole life except leaving for college and grad school! Still maintain WA driver's license, voting, etc.

Have been curious about this.. It's been said that if you apply for Spokane as preference then chances of getting in are quite a bit higher. How much are you considered for Spokane then if you select "Seattle but may go Spokane" preference?

I posted earlier, but if you have a reason to being going there and put it as an option, the dean of admissions basically said you would end up there.

Interview invite!!! 8/15; 36 MCAT; 3.59 gpa; in state; reapplicant

For those who have gotten interviews: do you get to choose your date, or is it given to you?

They send you an initial email saying that you've received an interview, then a second email after that (varies how long this takes to arrive) that has you schedule the interview. You get to choose from a few dates, I forget exactly how many (I haven't gotten my second email yet this year)

Got an E-mail yesterday, 2-3 weeks for residency verification. At least they confirmed they got the documents. Called the office as well and they said 2-3 weeks. Sigh.

do you have to send any document for resident confirmation? how does the confirmation processed?

Yes, if you got the E-mail. Otherwise I think you're fine. The documents on a couple things. Check the website.

Do they send you anything to let you know you've been verified?

They do:

"University of Washington Medical School Admissions Office:

Please accept this as verification that the following student’s Residence Questionnaire and documentation have been reviewed, and the student has been classified as a resident for admission and tuition purposes, effective Autumn Quarter 2017"

How long did it take?

do they sent rejection through email? or you found out by login school account?

I got rejections from other schools. But for UW's II, they update the portal and send the email at the same time. Interview scheduling is not available at this time. Best of luck

1) Should I worry if I got an interview invite email but UW still hasn't updated my portal?
2) Did anyone else on here apply to the TRUST Program? 😀

1) No way Jose
2) Nope. Im not really from an underserved area and got the impression that they prefer those who are from those kinds of areas.

1.) lol no

2.) No -- I felt like it was binding me to being a primary care provider. There's a chance I want to practice EM or surgery in a rural location.

Does anyone have an idea of how many acceptances are typically reapplicants?

My primary app was verified on Aug 4. University of Washington received it Aug 9.
It's Aug 23 and I haven't heard back from them for a secondary application. Should I email them?

Did you receive an Email from UW telling you that they have received your application? My application was verified on 8/12 but I haven't received any Email from them, not even a confirmation Email telling me that they have received my application.

I got my secondary the day after I was complete. If you are IS, I would E-mail.

"Thank you for choosing the University of Washington School of Medicine as one of your top medical schools. We have received your preliminary application from AMCAS, and in the near future your file will undergo a preliminary review.

If you have signed up to take a later MCAT exam (administered before the September 30th cutoff date), this preliminary review will be postponed until receipt of the new scores. The review itself typically takes a month to six weeks.

You will be notified as soon as possible if you are selected to submit secondary application materials. All secondary application materials are due in our office by December 1, 2016."

Schools like Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, and Univerisity of Washington that take this long to give me a damn email (secondary invite or rejection before secondary) really make me lose interest in the school.
I saw the essay prompts for Vanderbilt and obviously UW...and they seem like they'd take forever to answer anyways since i haven't pre-written them. So a rejection from all those three would actually be nice because they'd be doing me a favor...if I'm being optimistic. 😛

you could always try calling them. my primary app was verified on 6/28 and I didn't get a secondary until 7/15.

So it took them approximately 2 weeks for you.
It's been that amount of time for me 🙁
But you're right, I think I'll try calling them and the other schools i still have not heard back from since having my primrary verified.
I'm serious though - those 3 schools i mentioned i'm considering forgetting for good.

Hang in there. I think we're all freaking out about one school or another. From past years, I've heard that OOR applicants also go through a pre-secondary screen where they are asked to submit a mission statement before receiving the secondary. It may just be that UW hasn't gotten to yours quite yet. Are you just OOS or are you OOR as well?

No I'm OOS :/

Hi everyone, I am IS. I turned in my secondary app Jul 24 (I believe that was exactly 2 weeks after I received it?), and it was not complete until Aug 11 and it was sent in for review by the committee at that time. I got a letter packet with my undergrad, and that's why it took so long to complete.

Excellent! GPA/MCAT or approximate LizzyM?
