2016-2017 Vanderbilt University Application Thread

Just got an II! Don't know exactly when I was complete, but my letters were uploaded to AMCAS on 8/1, and everything else had already been turned in by then.

Same here. Also got an II earlier today! My supp was done 7/16 and letters were received and verified on 8/1 too.

What is everyone's take on whether there are more secondaries coming? I've been complete since day 1, LizzyM 78-79 and nothing. I know that there are a lot of things that go into this process, but I'm starting to wonder whether this is one school I should stop thinking about?

II yesterday as well! Did anyone else not see any interview dates for September...?

Pre-secondary rejection last week. Appreciate their holistic screen though.

II for MIDP and regular MD track! Not expecting this. LizzyM ~70

Secondary submitted on Sunday, September 4th

Wow was that a 5 day turnaround or did you submit the secondary early last week? Better get this secondary out soon for a hopefully quick II

Hello,
Anyone interviewing at Vandy that needs an affordable place to stay during interview process, please PM me. Brand new apartment with pool/bar/game room and close to the downtown area and Vandy.

Sorry to hear! I'm wondering if you could share when you were verified/applied to Vandy? I'm still waiting to hear and was verified early on

Also, has there really been just one pre secondary rejection reported? This is nuts. Applied to Vandy on July 7th and have yet to hear yay or nay on a secondary

I was going to PM you but looks like you don't accept new messages?

I'm right here with ya, LizzyM 73. My primary was verified mid July, still waiting for that magical secondary to appear in my mailbox.

I'm not really on here all that much, can somebody explain what numbers like 73 mean?
PS. My AMCAS was verified mid-July and I haven't received a secondary yet. Still hoping!

LizzyM= MCAT score (old scale) + GPA*10

So a 73 could be a 4.0/33, 3.9/34, 3.8/35, etc

Edit: the general theory for Vandy secondaries is that 3.8/37 automatically get a secondary. For everyone else, they do a holistic screen to give out secondaries. I believe they send out pre-secondary rejections, so no news is good news

In response to general theory -- while it may be mostly true -- I'm sitting with a 78-79 and still no secondary -- so not sure that the automatic part holds true (GPA 4.0 -- took the new MCAT roughly 38-39 on old scale). Still hoping though!

Thank you! I guess my LizzyM (where did that name come from haha) is 74.4 with still no secondary.

I'll be an incoming MS-1 in July (still feels weird as hell to say that)! I had a relatively low GPA for Vanderbilt (mid-3.7s) and didn't pass the auto-secondary screen; Vanderbilt only guarantees secondaries for applicants with like a 3.8+ and 37+ MCAT or something. Please PM me if you have any questions about the application process or why I picked Vanderbilt!

Hi! So how did you complete the secondary app without passing the screening?

I was staring at this like "what??" and then I realized s/he just made a little mistake subtracting 1 from MCAT scores instead of adding.
Should be 4.0/33 then 3.9/34 and 3.8/35, yeah?

Side-note: I'm blown away by the stats here. They seem high even compared to other top schools.

This is a copy/paste from last year's application thread, with as many updated figures as I could find.

Stats

7174 applicants (2015-16 application cycle)
~1500 invited to complete secondary
~450 invited to interview
~200 accepted
Mean MCAT accepted students (2015-16): 12.70 (~38)
Mean GPA accepted students (2015-16): 3.91

3.9/38 for MD only.... anyone know what it is for MSTP?

Oops, haha. My brain wasn't working. Thanks for catching!

Applied for Vanderbilt's Md/PhD program. I'm super nervous, but they emailed me an invite for a secondary in about 24 hours. I was really surprised too, because I know they screen their secondaries and my GPA is a 3.5 with an MCAT of 497, but I'm a military veteran and have worked as a Medical Lab Tech for over 6 years now, so I'm hoping that helps. I really hope they keep that holistic approach to their Interview invites. Does anyone have any idea how long it usually takes from submitting the secondary to getting an interview invite? It's only been like 2 weeks for me, so I know I have more time, but I'm curious.

I'm almost positive that I've read that every MSTP applicant gets a secondary, and doesn't actually get screened :/ I submitted my MSTP secondary on 7/14 and still no word, so there's no real expected turn around time

Aww don't tell me that 🙁 Of course that is probably true of most MSTP programs, so who knows.

+1
I applied MSTP and got a secondary right away too
