2016-2017 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wake Forest M1 here -posting to leave a contact for any applicants with questions - feel free to message me, I do not check this thread too often. Fair warning, I will only check sdn every week or so. And best of luck to all!!

Yes..a few people were pretty discouraging w some ppl going as far as saying zero chance for MD. Thats why i forbid my sister who's also a premed from using SDN until her application..lol
Are you URM?
my LizzyM is abt urs so 31 MD II's are my wish too...

does wake forest accept updates and letters of interest?
I just sent them an email to ask that question today and they said they will accept my additional letters. But my app is not complete yet

Additional letters of evaluation? Or letter of interest?

Just wanted to expand on the question above: what month are your most recent interview offers at? I just wanted to see to know how many invite dates might be left.

Hey! I feel like an oddball here, but I'm actually just submitting my primary application tomorrow. How gloomy is my future looking for Wake Forest?

You might be okay if you are applying to any off-shore or DO schools. Unfortunately, for mainland MD schools this is quite late in the cycle.

I made the mistake of applying late in the summer last year and didn't make it that cycle.

When did you apply in the summer last year? Cuz a lot of people applied in the fall and got in...

@Pathdocmd in your opinion, and without knowing anything else about someone's application, what numbers do you think are competitive at Wake. I ask because if you look at this SDN thread it seems like tons of people with 510+ are getting the bulk of interviews. I read that the average for the class of 2020 was a 508 3.65 so I would guess the average range must be about 507 to 509 and 3.55 to 3.75.

Hopefully Pathdocmd is allowed to provide us with some insight on that question.
---

Just to chime in with some additional numbers that you may or may not have already read:
MCAT ---> 10th percentile = 29 ; Median = 32 ; 90th percentile = 34
ovGPA ---> 10th percentile = 3.3 ; Median = 3.68 ; 90th percentile = 3.95
[in accordance to MSAR's report of the accepted applicants in 2016]

Also, it could possibly be just coincidence that MCAT-competitive applicants (510+) take to posting on SDN and openly discussing their status more often than other type of applicants; therefore creating a skew in the perceived trend. As far as we know, the number of <510 applicants getting interviews could be higher... right?

Very excited and nervous for Monday. Does anyone know if Wake calls to notify about an acceptance, or do they send an email to acceptance/waitlist/rejection?

So far the MCAT range of those we have interviewed has been 500 to 522. The "old MCAT" averages were higher than the 2015 MCAT averages [508 (79% percentile) vs almost a 32 (88% percentile). I haven't looked too carefully on why that is (I have some ideas), but most of the strongest candidates get there applications in very early and already had MCATs in low to mid 30's. We look at all MCAT scores, but the majority of the matriculated class had the old scores and that is what we use for our calculation for average MACT. Most of the interviewed applications for this cycle have only the 2015 MCAT.

Are rejections sent out pre II or are all rejections sent out after all interviews officially
end?

Good to know! Do you take the best MCAT or average multiple scores when evaluating a candidate?

Waitlisted. Congrats you guys! Now for my letter of interest...

Wait listed ugh! Does anybody know how soon they start pulling from the list? I hate this waiting game...

A friend of mine graduated from Wake Med and she said Wake typically wait lists many applicants because they only accept as many applicants as they have spots at one time (compared with other programs which may accept 150 applicants knowing that half will end up coming). That means it is much more realistic to get OFF the wait list at Wake.

But no, sorry I don't know when.
That's not correct. We do "overfill" and start taking people off the wait list not until April or May.

Has anyone who interviewed and was told they'd hear back today not heard back yet? I know patience is a blessing but I just don't have it today, I'm too excited!!

So being on the waitlist now, the earliest we'll likely hear a final decision is April or May? I thought some schools would reevaluate the list every month or so and pull people off of it throughout the cycle. Just curious, Thanks for your help!

Some schools do, but we interview until mid-March and accept people that interviewed the very last day. By that time we are above the 130 count.

Congrats to those accepted! Hopefully there will be some more IIs coming up now that the first wave of acceptances has gone out.

@Pathdocmd, I guess those of us who interviewed very early but have not gotten notification of acceptance or waitlist by email yet will be receiving a rejection in the near future?

Thanks

Rejected, I interviewed on the 12th of September. Congrats everyone who got in 👍

Strange. I thought I interviewed well and my stats were competitive. 3.8gpa 34 mcat.

I am so sorry to hear that! Don't get discouraged though, I am sure with your stats you will have no problem getting into a great medical school!

Same here! Interviewed on sept. 12th, LizzyM ~74 ish though I didn't really think my interviews went all that well.
I don't think I was a good fit for Wake though so I'm happy someone else will get that spot!!!

Checking in, submitted secondary early September. By the looks of it, the last reported IIs were in September? Anybody know how often the admissions committee meets/send out IIs?

I believe pathdoc said they schedule interviews a month ahead of time. So they are scheduling November interviews now.
